I've been to ALOT of hostels in my time and from start to finish this place was definitely up there with some of the coolest places Ive ever stayed. I had trouble finding the entrance as I was arriving by car in the dark but a quick phone call and I had precise directions to the front door. Staff were pleasant and welcoming, the canteen was great and the food was good. My bedroom and bathroom were clean 10/10 👌
My only grumble would be that I was put in a room without a hot shower. I spent a good 10 minutes in the morning waiting for the water to get hot to no avail. Went down to speak to a member of staff and it was apparent they knew and the kind woman swiftly led me to the communal showers after offering another room (which I declined) I didn't mind it was no biggie, just a smalll criticism and perhaps a wee issue in communication with staff. Everything was clean and bathroom was warm. Had a great stay and I've been telling everyone about my adventure! Such a gem 💎 ✨️ 💖

The building is located in a very picturesque setting and is equipped with every comfort. I was really impressed with how clean the place was, which definitely added to the overall positive experience of my stay.
The beds may not be fully stable. Personally, as someone with back issues, sleeping in the top bed of a bunk bed was not ideal, as I had difficulty getting down. The internet connection didn’t work very well, neither in the room nor throughout the rest of the building. For someone traveling alone, having access to an internet connection can be crucial, especially if, like me, you don’t have a UK SIM card because you're only temporarily in the country and rely primarily on WhatsApp to stay in touch with loved ones.

The location is superb, it was very spacious with comfortable , roomy lounges. It was very clean. The views from any window are spectacular. The cafe/ restaurant is very bright, clean and beautifully decorated. The tour bus stops outside every hour and is a very handy way of exploring the town. We were given free tickets when we arrived to visit the Abbey grounds and museum. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cafe was decorated for Halloween, which was great.
Only two things, the cafe was closed in the evening, due to the need to accommodate a large school party. We weren't informed that this was going to happen ( we would have brought our own food to cook in the kitchen ) I found the pillow uncomfortable, it was very flat and hard, which made it difficult to get to sleep.

YHA just right next to the Abbey at the cliff top, as I plan to have a hike to Robin's Hood Bay next day, the location is excellent for me, but for those who stay in the town centre at all time, maybe a little bit far but it's just within 10 mins walk, including climbing famous 199 steps. The kitchen is clean. The staff is friendly. There's a complimentary ticket offers me to go to the Abbey, it's absolutely a great deal. It keeps YHA standard as usual, affordable price, a little bit away from the centre location, well-equipped kitchen, and friendly staff.

Loved the location in relation to Whitby Abbey & and only a couple of minutes walk to the 199 steps and into town. The building is beautiful and full of history. Free entry into the Abbey with a voucher (not well advertised and only found out from fellow traveller!) Good self-catering facilities, and cafe and a TV room / conservatory area to relax in. Gardens are lovely and view is stunning. Booked a twin room, but put in a quad (perfectly fine) but wonder what the difference would have been!
Wifi only downstairs Needs better signage on how to access the YHA when driving as it’s not clear you have to go through the archway at the side of the Abbey and past the English Heritage shop/entrance to get to the car park. Bathroom /Toilet in dorm room didn’t smell particularly pleasing! The bedroom door didn’t shut properly as the latch kept getting stuck. Beds comfy but a tiny bit narrow and only one pillow provided - bring your own if you can!

The location next to the abbey was great. Its a walk down steps to the rest of the town but the fact you have great views form the cafe and onsite parking makes up for the walk. Staff are excellent and friendly. when we went there the stay also got you free entrance tot he abbey a savings of £16 each!"
Its not a hotel its a youth hostel so that should be your expectation but its a lovely old building, the rooms are big and there are communal areas as well as areas to cook your won food etc. Its not doubled glazed (as its a listed building) so it might get chilly but the duvets supplied were great.

Unbeatable location! The view of the Abbey from our tent was wonderful The tent was spacious and the bed very comfy with heavy quilts. Great little fire too. Service at the bar was welcoming and friendly and we were given free tickets to visit the Abbey.
Breakfast wasn’t available as schools had taken over the cafe. The previous night yet again we were hoping for a few drinks at the bar, we managed to get one but then was told we couldn’t get one for another hour as the school was taking over the cafe for the duration. I would have appreciated an email before our stay to tell us so we could have done a breakfast shop beforehand. The lighting in the tent was cold. dim and stark. Would have been nice to have some fairy lights to in there to make it more cosy.

Perfect location and free parking - although we arrived at busy time and took a bit of negotiating through the arch at Abbey. Got the last space in car park which was a relief as we had our bikes. Easy to register your car at reception even if staff not there. Staff were brilliant and friendly. Cafe bar was lovely and ideal that it was open til 10pm. Breakfast was great too - plenty of options and good quality cooked breakfast. Hairdryer was available from reception. If you are a cyclist, can recommend the cinder path that goes to Robin Hood Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough. A mix of trail types - smooth to super gnarly gravel - so worth it! Check out Route YC (Yorkshire Cycle) for info. Cycling back into Whitby is amazing! Smooth, downhill and over the viaduct.

I was really pleased to find out I could park my car as soon as I arrived - not having to wait till check in - as car parking isn't easy in Whitby. I found a space (the carpark isn't large and was already quite full) and my car stayed till I left late morning the following day. Communication by message was easy and the staff were super helpful when I arrived. I had no idea the hostel was right next door to the Abbey - and was amazed to be offered a free ticket - I'm in English heritage so it wasn't necessary but what a lovely thing to do. Good value in the dormitory - nice women to share with - comfy and quiet with its own wash basin and toilet - felt very safe and secure. The café next door was great - and i wish I'd also thought to take items for breakfast to use the self-catering kitchen - there was a quite a crowd in there having a breakfast party! There are also ensuite and family rooms - and the building itself is full of character. Easy walk down into town do buy a USB plug - don't forget that, there aren't sockets in the rooms. Fish and Chips at The Magpie. I had the best time! Thanks so much.
I wouldn't change anything. It was great.

Comfortable social atmosphere, phenomenal location right next to the abbey with a view of the sea and the countryside, clean and bright and with a lovely café
Just a tiny thing: there was a wet spot underneath the carpet next to my bed - didn’t bother me because it wasn’t a large area, and this was the only thing I noticed that wasn’t 100% clean and up to scratch so it’s not a problem, but I’d be worried about the piping if I was the owners/managers of this place :/ (room M18, between the back left bed and the window, in case someone sees this)
