Genuinely a great stay and at £20 for a night that includes free entry to Whitby abbey ( saving £10) it is incredible value! Friendly staff, very fuss free. Bunk bed room in girls dorm was fine with shower and toilet. Hired towel for £2 and borrowed the hairdryer. Bottomless breakfast (£5.95) was excellent with view over Whitby harbour. Wanted for nothing!! Recommend stocking up on food ( there's microwave, cooker, fridges and freezer) in the local co-op and using the hostels self-catering for dinner as the conservatory dining area overlooking the abbey ruins has to be the best and cheapest in the town!! Spent two nights here and was able to leave luggage so got a freebie day in Whitby without the heavy rucksack on the third day which was greatly appreciated. Female, solo traveller and felt very safe. Access is all via entry card and there's plenty of people around. The gardens are stunning, kudos to the gardner. Herbs, fruit tree and again harbour views.

Just a tiny thing: there was a wet spot underneath the carpet next to my bed - didn’t bother me because it wasn’t a large area, and this was the only thing I noticed that wasn’t 100% clean and up to scratch so it’s not a problem, but I’d be worried about the piping if I was the owners/managers of this place :/ (room M18, between the back left bed and the window, in case someone sees this)

This property is beautiful. It is up on the hill looking over the whole town. The walk from the main bus stop was maybe 15 minutes and I was carrying 20kg but didn’t bother me. 200 stairs to head up the hill but the view is beautiful to stop and look at. It’s next to the Whitby castle thing which is really cool. The place was really big! My room was fine, no complaints! Loved the common areas. Including outsides benches.

The showers were bad, kinda dirty like there was a broom in there just in case you flooded it…. The shower pressure awful, would turn cold and hot whilst u were showering. The wifi is TERRIBLE in the room but good outside in the common areas and there is like 5 of them which was great.

the hassle free check in at 3pm . sunday 24th march. the service from the man on the reception desk was friendly and efficient.

booking at short notice then being told to bring photo id. i now know that libraries offer a free photo id service for voters which can be used but didnt have time to arrange photo id and had to carry important documents round with me that i was worried about losing. i enjoyed my stay there but maybe places with less stringent id rules are the best route for us that dont have photo id on a smart phone.

This by far has to be the most fantastic YHA hostel ever experienced. Thanks goes to the excellent staff who work hard in maintaining the smooth running of a very busy accomodation in the most beautiful and historic area of Whitby. Suberbly clean and spacious dormatories with excellent self catering kitchen facilities. The hostel is adjacent to the historic Whitby abbey and church. You can walk up the famous 199 steps to the hostel but the open top tour bus is perhaps the better option if you have much heavy luggage the price is £7.00 but it is for 24 hour use and will drop you off at the abbey. I really enjoyed my stay here. Thank you.

Perfect location. Clean and comfy beds, games room a big hit with the kids, free pass to see the Abbey, free parking, nice breakfast. Excellent value for money with a big family, all in one room which you don't get in a hotel. Id never stayed in a hostel before and expected it to be terrible an full young people... was SO surprised. It was amazing value and I'm fully converted! The views were stunning. We had a private room with our own bathroom. It was great. Definitely recommend.

It was grubby on windowsills and carpets were worn in communal areas, stairs etc, but in all honesty I didn't care at all... beds were immaculate and everything else was fab. Just been picky been as you have asked...

The location and setting were amazing we sat out near the church on the cliff overlooking the bay until sunset then took drinks to the gardens while the kids played. The history and age of the house with lots of ancient features were really interesting. The cafe was brilliant and the staff there and on the door were really welcoming and helpful.

We were in one of the top rooms looking over the courtyard. Understandable that some rooms can’t all have great views. The shower and loo seemed a bit wiffy and are probably next on the list for a refurbish including new taps and removal of old soap dispensers off the wall. More hooks and a shelf for a wash bag would be good but that’s a universal problem not just here.

I love the coziness of the environment. The view of the town from the property is amazing and it's priceless. I recommend you view how lovely Whitby is at night from the apartment. I'm sure you'd like it and be glad you did

Particularly, I don't think there's anything I didn't love about the property. I read reviews from other people and these gave me a sense of what and what’s not to expect. So I'm fine.

Location for price is amazing! You are smack bang next to the Abbey. The views from the hostel are incredible, and it's only a 10min walk to town via a couple of paths (lots of stairs FYI- I didn't mind them though). The female only dorm upstairs was very spacious. Plenty of toilets. Cafe and bar is very convenient.

The mattress and pillow were quite uncomfortable, if I was to go again I would definitely bring my own pillow. The receptionist was quite aloof which didn't make me feel hugely welcomed.

This was a golden nugget find.... stunning location for starters. We stayed in one of the Bell Tents and the experience just got better, 5 star all the way 👍, secure and private area and fantastic facilities. We also had breakfast in the cafe and this was fantastic value. Adding in free entry to Whitby Abbey was icing on the cake. Well done YHA Whitby, 5 star rating. We will be back again, thank you.
