Perfect location and free parking - although we arrived at busy time and took a bit of negotiating through the arch at Abbey. Got the last space in car park which was a relief as we had our bikes. Easy to register your car at reception even if staff not there. Staff were brilliant and friendly. Cafe bar was lovely and ideal that it was open til 10pm. Breakfast was great too - plenty of options and good quality cooked breakfast. Hairdryer was available from reception. If you are a cyclist, can recommend the cinder path that goes to Robin Hood Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough. A mix of trail types - smooth to super gnarly gravel - so worth it! Check out Route YC (Yorkshire Cycle) for info. Cycling back into Whitby is amazing! Smooth, downhill and over the viaduct.

I was really pleased to find out I could park my car as soon as I arrived - not having to wait till check in - as car parking isn't easy in Whitby. I found a space (the carpark isn't large and was already quite full) and my car stayed till I left late morning the following day. Communication by message was easy and the staff were super helpful when I arrived. I had no idea the hostel was right next door to the Abbey - and was amazed to be offered a free ticket - I'm in English heritage so it wasn't necessary but what a lovely thing to do. Good value in the dormitory - nice women to share with - comfy and quiet with its own wash basin and toilet - felt very safe and secure. The café next door was great - and i wish I'd also thought to take items for breakfast to use the self-catering kitchen - there was a quite a crowd in there having a breakfast party! There are also ensuite and family rooms - and the building itself is full of character. Easy walk down into town do buy a USB plug - don't forget that, there aren't sockets in the rooms. Fish and Chips at The Magpie. I had the best time! Thanks so much.

I wouldn't change anything. It was great.

Genuinely a great stay and at £20 for a night that includes free entry to Whitby abbey ( saving £10) it is incredible value! Friendly staff, very fuss free. Bunk bed room in girls dorm was fine with shower and toilet. Hired towel for £2 and borrowed the hairdryer. Bottomless breakfast (£5.95) was excellent with view over Whitby harbour. Wanted for nothing!! Recommend stocking up on food ( there's microwave, cooker, fridges and freezer) in the local co-op and using the hostels self-catering for dinner as the conservatory dining area overlooking the abbey ruins has to be the best and cheapest in the town!! Spent two nights here and was able to leave luggage so got a freebie day in Whitby without the heavy rucksack on the third day which was greatly appreciated. Female, solo traveller and felt very safe. Access is all via entry card and there's plenty of people around. The gardens are stunning, kudos to the gardner. Herbs, fruit tree and again harbour views.

Pfft, nothing.

Comfortable social atmosphere, phenomenal location right next to the abbey with a view of the sea and the countryside, clean and bright and with a lovely café

Just a tiny thing: there was a wet spot underneath the carpet next to my bed - didn’t bother me because it wasn’t a large area, and this was the only thing I noticed that wasn’t 100% clean and up to scratch so it’s not a problem, but I’d be worried about the piping if I was the owners/managers of this place :/ (room M18, between the back left bed and the window, in case someone sees this)

This place was more expensive than I would usually go for, but I'm very glad I did. I was in the ladies dorm, with views of the Abbey and garden, loved it! Entrance into the Abbey was included; an unexpected bonus! Absolutely recommend this place. There's a lift. My request for a bottom bunk was accepted.

I did wish that salt and pepper, and maybe oil had been supplied. Also, they could set up a spot that people could leave their unwanted items.

This property is beautiful. It is up on the hill looking over the whole town. The walk from the main bus stop was maybe 15 minutes and I was carrying 20kg but didn’t bother me. 200 stairs to head up the hill but the view is beautiful to stop and look at. It’s next to the Whitby castle thing which is really cool. The place was really big! My room was fine, no complaints! Loved the common areas. Including outsides benches.

The showers were bad, kinda dirty like there was a broom in there just in case you flooded it…. The shower pressure awful, would turn cold and hot whilst u were showering. The wifi is TERRIBLE in the room but good outside in the common areas and there is like 5 of them which was great.

Beautiful building, excellent location, friendly & helpful staff. Room was spacious & had everything we needed including plenty of sockets. Excellent value for money. On site Cafe/bar staff were awesome and very accommodating for my daughter’s picky needs (deconstructed nachos!!!) lovely place to sit outside & watch the world go by & inside was so nice in the evening it had ambient lighting & comfy chairs. This wonderful place & its staff are a credit to Whitby.

Nothing to improve.

the hassle free check in at 3pm . sunday 24th march. the service from the man on the reception desk was friendly and efficient.

booking at short notice then being told to bring photo id. i now know that libraries offer a free photo id service for voters which can be used but didnt have time to arrange photo id and had to carry important documents round with me that i was worried about losing. i enjoyed my stay there but maybe places with less stringent id rules are the best route for us that dont have photo id on a smart phone.

This by far has to be the most fantastic YHA hostel ever experienced. Thanks goes to the excellent staff who work hard in maintaining the smooth running of a very busy accomodation in the most beautiful and historic area of Whitby. Suberbly clean and spacious dormatories with excellent self catering kitchen facilities. The hostel is adjacent to the historic Whitby abbey and church. You can walk up the famous 199 steps to the hostel but the open top tour bus is perhaps the better option if you have much heavy luggage the price is £7.00 but it is for 24 hour use and will drop you off at the abbey. I really enjoyed my stay here. Thank you.
