The weather forecast didn’t look too good, but as we drove south the rain was moving north and we had 2 beautiful days. This was our first stay in the Main House and was very impressed. As always the staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs. Will be back.

My wife and I are 76yrs old and the shower over the bath was not perfect but we managed,I should have asked for a walk in,otherwise the stay was excellent.

The location is good, the room was lovely and a decent size. Breakfast was excellent, everything was fresh, and cooked to order, and the staff were fantastic. Especially the lady on reception who gave us a really warm welcome, she was friendly, extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble, just sorry I didn't get her name as she really deserves a mention! We really enjoyed our stay and I would highly recommend the hotel. Also lovely pool and spa.

There was nothing about the hotel we didn't like, although with the reconstruction work at the entrance to the estate and all the mud, a proper foot path for walkers would be useful.

What a beautiful hotel, far exceeded expectations! Our room was really cosy and right near reception which was handy. Almost all staff were extremely friendly and welcoming (especially reception and the spa). The food choices and quality was very good, it made a nice change not having a hot buffet for breakfast and ordering something instead. The bed was very comfortable in our room. The hotel grounds were very pretty! Loved the location right near Sandsend. Plenty of parking a short walk from reception. I had informed the hotel that the booking was for my birthday and they had left a little card and some chocolates for me which was thoughtful and a nice touch!

More clear signage needed as we felt quite lost on arrival and the reception could do with a sign above it or something. There were many deep scratches all over our floor in our room 406 (possibly where the sofa has been pulled out?) Two bookings I made had errors, one spa booking for 3:30pm made weeks in advance didn't exist so I rebooked the day before for 4pm instead, then the massage booking the morning of arrival was for 11 but put down as 11:30 on the system, not a huge problem just odd when I had booked things. The spa was very warm making it uncomfortable to relax! One barman in the evening (young ish looking, dark hair and tattoos) was really rude and short with his colleagues which was quite unprofessional and uncomfortable.

We booked a "cosy" room which was extremely spacious and light with loads of storage. Nice toiletries in generous bottles and a good supply of beverages and water. Breakfast was excellent with the staff only too willing to provide anything requested. All the staff were delightful. Grounds beautiful

Strangely there didn't appear to be a shaver point in the bathroom but maybe it was concealed. Evening meal very slow to arrive and very small as no offer of substitute for potato (allergy). Tbf the restaurant manager did take action - but brought potatoes! Other than this, the food was delicious

The staff were friendly. The Food was really good, the Sunday dinner being excellent value . We booked a 'cosy room' but were located in the Jefferson suite in the main hotel that was very roomy with a huge bed and large bathroom . The hotel is set in grounds with gardens and a lake, ideal for walking off the evening meal. Location handy for a stroll down into nearby Sandsend.

At night, a 'fan' type noise disturbed our sleep coming on and off. It wasn't the bathroom fan, sounded like it was in the adjoining roof space (Jefferson suite is in the roof). The full Yorkshire breakfast appeared disappointing compared to other hotels with only half a tomatoe, a small rasher of bacon, etc, but realistically it was quite enough when you had cereal, fruit, croissants , etc.

My husband and I have just returned from a most relaxing few days at Raithwaite Sandsend. All was very well organized and comfortable, and the staff were, without exception, charming and friendly. The grounds are lovely; and there are several public footpaths from them. The beach is just a short walk away, across the road from the bottom of the drive - down a steep grassy slope or longer path. Our room was not in the main building, which we thought might be a problem, as my husband has mobility problems, but the free, 'on request' transport service provided for anyone preferring not to walk the short distance between the two was extremely quick and efficient. The longest we had to wait was 5 minutes.

Location French doors from bedroom Complimentary upgrade Concierge Spa staff Large bathroom Comfy bed

Bedroom rug quite stained which was off putting when you first go in the door Website shows a bar menu as well as a restaurant one but this wasn’t available- however could have had room service. Just felt the hotel lacked a bit of identity - for example the lounge was nice but very impersonal - bookshelves were empty- also a real need for some personality in the room - easily and cheaply done with cohesive cushions, lamps, throws. Similarly the ‘spa’ lacked any personal touches - bowls of fruit, iced water, drinks service. Felt much more just a generic hotel pool than a spa.

Stayed in The Hyde as had a dog, the concierge couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating, my dog was made a fuss of and made to feel very welcome. The room on the ground floor couldn’t have been more ideal, with door opening out on to a patio then grassed area, ideal for the dog, there were even dog bowls and a bed provided. Ate in the restaurant in the evening as also able to take my dog in, staff, again, we’re very pleasant and helpful, the food was very nice, though my only one criticism was £9 for a very small amount of mousse, with no accompaniments for a starter was a bit excessive. Overall I had a lovely time and will definitely be coming to stay again.

The mousse starter. Distance from The Hyde to main hotel.

We were able to use Blue-badge parking right outside our room. Our room was next to the restaurant/bar and Reception. We had a sitting area and bathroom on the ground floor, and a double bedroom on the first floor. All were very clean and lovely toiletries provided. We also received a soft padded blanket to use for our German Shepherd dog and the use of two dog bowls. All clean. We were able to walk around the grounds and there was a woodland part we were able to let our dog have a little run. The bar area was a dedicated place for guests with dogs to eat/drink and everyone was just so friendly. Our dog received lots of love from staff. We have definitely recommended this hotel to friends and family, and would stay here again.

There wasn't anything we didn't like but it would have been lovely to have a little balcony area so that we could sit outside.

Great to have accommodation with an elevator, with helpful staff and a good restaurant. The bed was comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom an excellent size.

I had difficulty locating the main hotel, as there are two separate buildings and two separate carparks and the main ones are invisible from the lower part of the driveway. Clearer directions would help. Also, when there is a stunning coastline and beautiful rolling countryside around Whitby, it felt strange to be secluded in what felt a tiny enclosed valley. But these were minor points for a one night stay.
