We stayed the first night in the Luxury room and preferred that. This review is for the regular room. The regular room appears to be in a newer extention on the building, and was quiet - we did not hear anything from the pub downstairs. Room was nicely decorated. The pub downstairs is really nice, and the food is great. A generous breakfast is included. There are historic sites nearby, and the high street is charming.

We stayed the first night in the Luxury room and preferred that. This review is for the regular room. The regular room was smaller (as advertised) and we had trouble closing the bathroom window as the wood has warped, so it wouldn't fully shut. The regular room appears to be in a newer extention to the building and it doesn't have the same charm as the luxury room. We were also not provided slippers and robes like we were in the luxury room.

The Luxury room was super nice. Lots of character and charm, combining old and new. The bathroom was amazing. We loved the bath robes, slippers, coffee machine, and snack bar. The food in the pub downstairs is really lovely, and the included breakfast was generous. Famous historic sites a stones throw away, and lovely high street. Overall a great stay.

We could hear the pub downstairs from the Luxury room - breakfast in the morning, and then in the evening before closing. It didn't bother us, but something to note as may bother others. I saw before booking that some reviews mention that you aren't able to control the heating system - for a British person (like me) who is used to old cast iron radiators this was no issue - we turned the radiator valve up when the temperature dropped and closed it overnight as we like sleeping in a colder room. The radiator filled with hot water quickly and quickly heated up the room.

Lovely pub, with a crowded lively bar. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. The furniture and fittings were really high quality, and the bed and linen extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly.

Our only criticism was that, in our room, the radiator and heated towel rail would not work (although the heating was on in the rest is f the pub). The room was therefore chilly, especially n the shower room. When we pointed this out on checkout we were told that they had put a Dyson heater in the room because of this, but this would not have warmed the bathroom and towels. Nor did we want to have to work out how to use a heater, when we had expected the central heating to work! I don’t think a room without functional radiators is really good enough at this time of year, in a pub of this quality.

Very quirky old pub, we had a fantastic large room (4) with an amazing bathroom - really luxurious. Each room has a different theme with pictures and information regarding the Battle of Trafalgar. Very helpful staff though they were very busy. Lovely location in an interesting town with many local walks and shops. Breakfast of fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, and full cooked options. Good choice of evening meals with some special offers. Very dog friendly without any additional charges. Nice outside area. Large carpark on opposite side of the road next to the Abbey grounds. Some room doors are low, if you are tall then suggest that you contact the hotel before arriving to ensure that you have the room doors with the most headheight.

Unlike last year there was no food available on Sunday night. We were unaware that the pub was at the start of a refit which meant that there were changes to the normal times, however we were informed of a choice of local takeaways for the evening meal and provided with table, crockery and cutlery to eat the Chinese that we ordered.

We had room 16 which we loved as it was very spacious and we loved the different angles of the room. There wasn’t a pretty outlook from the window but as we were only there for one night it didn’t really matter and everything else made up for it. The breakfast was served very quickly and was cooked superbly - thank you chef! The reception staff were very pleasant, cheery and helpful, thank you.

Only the outlook from the window but that couldn’t be helped although the lady sitting on the fire escape stairs smoking meant she was right outside our window and had full view of us - although of course she didn’t look!

I had actually made a mistake and turned up a day early. Not a problem! We were given what I can only describe as an incredible room with a four poster bed, stunning furniture and a gorgeous bathroom complete with roll top bath. The tea and coffee offering in the room was nothing short or luxurious as were the delicious biscuits and chocolates. We enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced meal outside on the terrace and had a comfortable and peaceful nights sleep. The breakfast choices all sounded so good, I was spoilt for choice, but in the end what I ordered was beautifully presented, plentiful and tasty. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the area, and hope to return soon. Thanks to all the staff 🙌

An amazing find. Very friendly and helpful staff, super comfy room and lovely food. The cooked breakfast was delicious and good tasting coffee.

It wasn’t really a dislike but more a disappointment. When we came down for breakfast, the buffet had been put away so apart from the cooked we didn’t know what was on offer. The member of staff though did offer to get it out but we declined and when I asked for some yoghurt produced a lovely glass with fruit and a natural yoghurt that was delicious. In the grand scheme of things, this was a minor matter.

The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was large and comfortable with all necessities. Beautiful period property, warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this characterful hotel to anyone

The bathroom was accessed through a very low arch which could be an issue for some guests. Husband is over 6ft and it was quite a challenge. Nothing could be done about it due to the age of the building but guests should be aware. Also, it's on a main road so expect some traffic noise

Dinner had a good choice and both our meals were very good. Breakfast choice was great and food again very good. The room, Villeneuve, a deluxe, was beautiful although the floor very sloping! Bathroom was huge and beautiful. Staff seriously hardworking and excellent.

A make up mirror in the bathroom would be useful and better lighting in the bedroom, once dark and curtains pulled it was beautifully atmospheric but making a hot drink in a dark corner was tricky. Parking is across a busy road.
