Having stayed several times my expectations were high and in the main met or bettered. The staff were excellent, particularly reception and bar staff. Our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The gardens remain well maintained and lovely.

Our only disappointment was the dining experience. Previously an outstanding feature, unfortunately the standards are not as high as our last visit which was around four years ago. The service was not to its past standard, condiments such as mustard or vinegar were served in sachets as would be a motorway service station. One meal was not hot, probably plated before the other meal was ready. Hopefully a temporary set back.

This is a lovely hotel. It’s interesting history made it extra special - loved the carpets in the lounge! Our room was super comfortable with plenty of room to move around and two comfortable chairs - so often hotel rooms only supply one comfortable chair and one of a couple ends up sitting on a bed. Lovely views from our room too. The breakfast were delicious. Plenty of choice and everything was nicely presented and well cooked. However, the staff were the best thing about this hotel. Everyone was professional but very friendly. The ladies who cleaned the rooms are delightful so thank you to Anna and her colleagues.

This property certainly has the WOW factor , from the moment you walk through the main entrance doors , and it just gets better and better !!! The interior decoration is just absolutely fabulous , from the carpets , curtains , lighting , wall art , and the most amazing settees and lounge chairs . The theme of the countryside and Beatrix Potter is evident throughout the public rooms , with lovely floral displays and unique mirrors , and letters , photos of Miss Potter and friends etc. Our room on the second floor had beautiful views of the garden and the lake beyond. Staff here are friendly ,efficient and excellent !!

Cannot find anything to fault at all .

Location, just outside Bowness is great (short walk of about 10 minutes in to Bowness) which was easily manageable and the grounds and hotel are really nice. Room was really nice (lake view and overlooking gardens too) and was super comfortable. Food is fantastic at both breakfast and evening meal.

The steps were closed in the garden making it quite a steep climb up the grass if you were less mobile. We managed okay but less able or if it were wet might struggle. The steps that would be used were closed (for repair) and need repairing quickly to make it an easier route and possibly even a better formed path at the bottom as I can imagine that being a challenge when wet too. Also, some of the younger members of staff need to learn to smile a little. It wasn’t that they weren’t helpful or attentive, just that they didn’t appear to want to be there. It’s a service industry they’re in and a smile is warming to guests rather than the sullen look some had.

The greeting from reception was warm, the receptionist was easily the most pleasant and smiley staff member. Both dinner and breakfast were lovely, beautifully cooked and presented and a wide choice, and service was generally attentive and efficient. There is a relaxed, warm feeling in the bar area and we enjoyed a pre and post dinner drink. The room was clean and comfortable, with a smart bathroom with lovely toiletries. Even a Nespresso machine! On Sunday morning there is a bird of prey talk, a lovely touch.

I wasn't keen on the decor, (although obviously newly done)-just a matter of personal taste, it was a bit busy for me. I kept imagining the space with all the ornaments, flowers etc removed! Our room, in the eaves, was a little dated and obviously hadn't been renovated at the same time as the main area.

The food was extremely good although at breakfast the portion of smoked haddock was extremely small (taster menu portion). Also normally when ordering eggs Benedict you would expect two eggs but only served one but saying that the one received was extremely good as was the small portion of smoked haddock - just needed to eat at lunch after having the smoked hadddock.

Dining arrangements regarding tables. One of us doesn’t like the sun /heat and unfortunately it was extremely hot and sunny when we stayed which is great but no shades/blinds on the windows and if you were unfortunate to be seated in a window seat it wasvery uncomfortable and when we asked the second evening could we please move to another table from the sun we were told no that is the table for your room although the restaurant was three quarters empty. Fortunately when my wife felt very unwell a member of staff moved us to a cooler area.

The house was Beautiful and clean. The staff were always clean and super friendly and polite. Reception staff just wonderful both young men were very kind and helpful.

I was disappointed with the breakfast staff and supervisor. The second day My family and i Asked 3 times for a hot drink and 40 minutes later recieved it. Which I then spoke with the supervisor. With an attitude was informed we are short staffed and abruptly told me to be patient and walked away. We only stayed 2nights but both mornings my mother was given the wrong breakfast. Then My father cut his finger open on a broken chair in the dining room. The food was fine but the experience recieved at breakfast was not good, I'm not sure that we will return again.

Beautiful hotel with gorgeous gardens which you can sit out and have tea(weather permitting) decorated dining rooms, and clean bedrooms. Helpful staff at check-in. Breakfast was amazing with choice of different types of hot breakfasts + fruit juice, cereals, yogurt and homemade fruit salad (none of those tinned stuff) at the buffet.

The only downside I felt is that it would be hard to get here without a car. There is quite a distance from Bowmere. The length of the walk to the nearest part of the lake felt longer than seen on the map (although that might have something to do with the lower part of the lane being under construction). So the lake is about 10min walk, where parts of it is on a busy lane with no side walk. Car Parking on the other hand was not an issue, with many places available, and clear instruction was given from the hotel to ensure that the Satnav was set properly.
