Staff, cleanliness, food, location... all excellent. We had issues with hot water on the first night and this was sorted within 15 mins. Highdown Gardens and a walk to the top of the hill to view a spectacular sunset was a truly added bonus. So peaceful and quiet.

The (large) bathroom connected to the Suite (Room 8) was lovely however the use of a low shower screen in the shower was a serious design flaw and led to unintentional flooding of the bathroom floor if not careful. Easily resolved if a full height screen was fitted. Access off the main road (a short drive) is a bit of a concern but not dwon to the hotels control.

Room was excellent. Cozy and comfortable Dinner was outstanding. Service a little slow but that gave us time to talk and catch up.

Breakfast. My husband's breakfast was inedible. The bacon was rock hard and the eggs were dried up and nasty. I had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on bloomer. The toast was dry and tasteless - a little butter could have saved it. To be fair they did take my husband's meal off the bill. The second day we both had scrambled eggs. The eggs were undercooked and slimy. Clearly their breakfast chef is nowhere near the standard of their evening chef.

The location was superb with walks from the hotel over the Downs and through Highdown Gardens. The King room we had was large and decorated beautifully. The staff were very friendly, despite it being an exceptionally busy time. Breakfast was one of the best we've had and dinner was great as well. We would be happy to stay there again and recommend it to family and friends.

Checking in at the bar could have been better organised, but it was an unusually busy time for the staff. Knowing the layout now, we would have left our cases in the car, checked in first and had a beer. This was a minor point and did not detract from the joy of staying there.

Loved the decor of the room, residents lounge, look and feel of the place. Pub / Restaurant welcoming and food awesome. Location is exquisite, with tea room, Highdown hill and gardens. Beautiful and relaxing.

Cleaner must have had an off day as the place looks amazing but there were cobwebs on the ceiling (minor point and I wouldn’t mention it… but) en-suite toilet hadn’t been cleaned properly, rim and underneath of seat dirty which just led me to worry about what else had been missed or shortcut… but apart from that the room was comfy and tastefully decorated / dressed and fitted out.

Room was stunning, very airy, clean, and well decorated. Dinner was second to none, wonderful flavours, beautifully presented, and without a ridiculous price tag. Waiters were professional and helpful.

Booking in was confusing, and the staff didn't seem to know the process. At the price of £175 per night I would have expected a more professional experience. We arrived on a busy Saturday afternoon, and the signage said 'if you are staying at the hotel, go inside and ask any of our staff, who will help' After queuing at a busy, understaffed bar, the girl didn't have a clue (not her fault), and after some confusion we were directed by her supervisor to go to the other end of the bar, where an extremely overworked guy checked us in. The electronic key failed to work on first try, so had to go back, queue up and get a replacement. Check out Sunday morning wasn't much better.

This hotel has an amazing history- gardeners and ex ravers take note! The pub/restaurant old building is characterful with different areas to drink and dine in , as well as having extensive outdoor terracing and garden space. The guest rooms are situated in another building across from this. We had an extremely comfortable quiet room and a spacious, beautifully decorated ensuite with a great power shower and large free standing bath. Everything is well maintained and carefully thought out and looks as though it was decorated last week! An added bonus are the adjacent HIghdown Gardens created by a previous owner of the old house in an old chalk quarry and home to many rare plants and trees -with free access these offer a beautiful respite from the busy town and seafront and a great place to relax and amble round .

This is a popular weekend venue with an extremely busy bar and dinning service so book a table early rather than expecting to walk in and get seated as residents . Also note it's quite a bit out of town so you need a car to get around- the taxi costs soon mount up if you want to get back into Worthing for an evening meal and drink.

Comfortable room, comfortable beds, good walk-in shower. Excellent breakfast with wide choice and well executed. Helpful staff.

No complaints. There is what should be a generous amount of free parking space, but non-resident visitors to the pub and restaurant came close to filling it up and that might be a problem in good summer weather, given the number of outdoor tables with umbrellas. Reception is done at the bar by helpful and responsive staff, but they are multi-tasking and might not be able to provide all the services a dedicated reception would usually provide.

The room and pub are both really lovely. Great decor and comfy bed. Breakfast was excellent and available almost until check out. Parking was ample and the hotel is not attached to the pub so we got no noise disturbance.

The pillows were rock hard( we did not ask or seek softer ones, just noticed once we were in bed) We went to the pub for a meal that was delicious but we felt we had to wait a little too long to be served considering how many staff were just walking past or emptying boxes. Staff were all really friendly though.

From the moment we checked in, the staff were so helpful and friendly and continued to be throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made us feel very welcome. A big thank you to Dylan who helped us on arrival and checking out. The rooms felt homely but also very luxurious. They were exceptionally clean and very well equipped with everything we needed (iron, hairdryer, toiletries, plenty of towels). TV also had access to Netflix and other streaming apps. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options.

Tastefully decorated room with comfortable bed, plenty of space and thoughtful extras. The restaurant was excellent with a varied and tasty menu. Breakfast was particularly good value when booked as part of the stay. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - nothing was too much bother. Really lovely quiet location with good local walks and a beautiful chalk garden to explore. A great detox from busy life.

The price of the room was a little expensive compared to other pub bedrooms which is essentially what this is. But everything was so faultless, it is probably worth it. You could stay somewhere cheaper and not get the same standards or service.
