The Halfway House Inn is perfectly positioned for easy access to the surrounding area and attractions (National Trust, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovil, Sherborne, etc). The breakfasts are super, there is a slight DIY element to tea/coffee/toast which is not be a problem and helps to cut down on waste. Our room was a 'lodge' outside of the main building with direct access to the car park. Pretty much everything you could need in the room including a fridge. The current owners are currently in the process of a phased renovation and redecoration project, so things can only get even better.

Would have liked to see carpet rather than hard floor, but understand that this can be problematic with people coming straight in from outside - perhaps provision of a brush for grit removal? Being close to the back entrance means people walking past, perhaps a mirrored film on the windows to add a little more privacy whilst perched on the bed reading before tea time? Overall very good stay with nothing much to grumble about!

Booking in on arrival was very easy as was finding the hotel. Staff very helpful. Room was sufficient for our needs. Food very well prepared although portions could have been a little smaller for our personal needs.

TV reception in our room was very poor, however as we were staying during Storm Babet this may have been the cause. Due to the very bad weather we had to curtail our stay, leaving after two nights instead of four again due to the weather washing out the places we were to visit. This is no fault of the hotel, just the storm.

Very clean, well appointed room with ample towels, soap, shower gels and a welcome variety of hot drinks (wife liked the latte sachets) and good quality biscuits. Easy to use shower with hot water readily available. Excellent choice of food for breakfast. Cooking was was excellent; service was with a smile. We were made to feel very welcome.

Very little; the blind for the skylight window came loose, but I managed to put it back. I should have preferred a double room, but I was late in making the booking and was pleased that you could accommodate us at fairly short notice and during a Bank Holiday weekend.

My partner, our dog Vicky and I loved our stay here. Our toom was one of those out the the back and ideal for us with our dog, so we literally had steps to get to the walk around the lake. Our room was comfortable and I loved the bar area that they had refurnished and updated in their time there and was really comfortable to have a drink or a coffee. Being dog friendly was a big must for us and your fur babies are made as welcome as you. I also loved the dog gift box you can buy as a gift or as a treat for your fur baby, which consists of a tennis ball, poo bags, collapsable dog bowl and a small blanket and comes in a good quality gift box. The food is delicious and lots of choice and you won't go away hungry and don't forget to leave room for breakfast where you have lots of choice and be well set up for the day . Our dog enjoyed her stay as much as us and cannot wait for us to go back.

That we couldn't stay longer

The room was spot on, breakfast was nice and the pub was friendly when drinking in there. It is the ideal place to stay when staying with dogs The room we stayed in was just outside the hotel, do we didn't have a load of stairs to walk up and didn't have to walk through the pub with our dog, it just makes it easier.

It was good no complaints If I had to be really picky there was a little dog hair in the corners of the room and the cup in the bathroom to rinse your mouth looked like it wasn't changed from the last guest, but this is very very minor it was the ideal place and I highly recommend.

I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay, staff were exceptional and the locals were great too. The food was beyond great and pounds per portion you are on to a winner, terrific value and more than reasonable on your pocket. Breakfast served from 6 30am officially, but the lovely morning chef said if I really needed an early start she would cook for 6am,where else do you get service like that this day and age? I can't rate this place high enough, it is even dog friendly and has a big lake out the back for a good walk with or without your pooch!! I will be back for sure, well worth the drive. Thanks a bunch guys and girls for a great stay even if it was for work. Cheers Paul

The only thing that could have been better is if I hadn't had to leave and move on for work.

We loved our 2 night stay here, during a trip to UK from Australia. Steve and his staff were very friendly and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We had both evening meals in the pub and the food was delicious and great value for money. The pub was cosy and friendly. Steve sat in the bar chatting to us one of the nights- a great friendly guy! Our room was an outside one, which suited us. Decent size, very clean and tidy. Heating great during the cold weather. Outside location is beautiful. Lake at the back of the property was gorgeous and nice to walk around. Very picturesque. It had snowed the day we arrived, so looked even more beautiful. The lake completely froze over. Our 14 year old son loved skimming pieces of ice across the surface of the lake. Big novelty for him, coming from Australia. The breakfast included each day was great. A few hot options to choose from also the usual toast, cereals, yoghurts, tea/coffee etc. Steve the owner/Chef would ask us what we wanted and was very open to mixing up the menu if we preferred something different to what was offered .The yolk colour of the local eggs were amazing!! Steve said they only use regular local produce. During our stay, Steve and his staff allowed us to use their commercial washing machine and drier for our clothes. This was completely complimentary and included all washing liquid. One morning we had to be out early.Steve’s laundry staff allowed us to put a load of washing on and said they’d “ take care of the rest”. When we returned for the day, our clothes had been washed and dried and placed back on our bed in the room. Amazing service! On our last day, Steve allowed us a late check out at 3pm with no extra charge. This is not a usual service you normally get! Plenty of room for parking.

Hard to find anything negative about this property, but a small amount of feedback would be to put some wine glasses in the room. Maybe some basic dishes like plates, bowls & cutlery. Some washing up liquid and sponge also. There was a toaster and sink- so the extras to go with them would’ve been great. We easily borrowed some wine glasses from the bar, so it wasn’t a major problem…. but just a suggestion. Property is a little distance out of the town centre. Not sure of public transport but a car would be a must! Lovely peaceful location though.

We stayed at Halfway House Inn after attending a party held in their functions room. We had an awesome time and it was super convenient that they were dog-friendly. The staff were lovely, the food was quite nice. The rooms were quite basic but very clean, including a small fenced-garden. Plus, there was a bigger field towards the back with a lake where we could the dog for a run. Nice experience

The beds were a little soft. They also had old school sinks with separate taps for cold & hot water.

The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. There was a full range of possibilities on offer for breakfast and the portions were very generous and nicely cooked. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had top-of-the range features. The menu for evening meals offered something for everyone, The dishes were perfectly cooked with first class ingredients with plenty to satisfy the biggest appetites. The Chef gave his personal attention to the needs of everyone. The roast duck he kindly suggested for us on our last night was perfect. It was very pleasant to stroll round the lake in the evening.

We stayed in room 21. The lighting didn't seem to have been adapted to suit the 4-poster bed, We felt the need for a second bedside table with a lamp, so we used a chair and found a functioning wall light under the bed! The shaving mirror light didn't work. The windows were locked shut to reduce the traffic noise, but also reducing the ventilation and the room felt too warm during some nights. However, a fan was thoughtfully provided to help. None of these little problems worried us much, but other (nit picking?) guests might feel otherwise!
