I had a very good experience with the front desk person, Naomi. When I got back from a late night walk I asked her if my room was this loud because of the discounted price I bought the room at and she quickly moved me to another room and checked in to see if I was happy. That was the best part, until driving away hearing from Marc head of security who figured out through a series of random clues that my missing bag was mine and he tracked me down to let me know he would put it in the safe for me

I couldn’t leave the parking lot, the self parking lot It’s not easy to figure out leaving and no one answered the call button or the call button on the valet exit

Staff was friendly and efficient. Rooms had huge windows that opened to the outside so we could enjoy fresh air! This was awesome and totally unusual in a hotel. The pool and hot tub were super clean, stocked with towels, and very pleasant. Guests should be aware that you need to walk outside through a small public plaza to access the pool, but the hotel supplies robes and pool towels. The rooms were freshly decorated, very appealing and well designed. The elevator system was a state-of-the-art floor-call system that moved people quickly and allowed easy social distancing. This was a great hotel to stay at during the pandemic--I could tell that meaningful precautions were in place. The spacious lobby (full of trees and, at the time of our stay, decorated with holiday lights) means there is plenty of space in between guests, even though this is a large and busy hotel. Rooms were very quiet at night. The location is incredible--a 2 minute walk to tons of local restaurants and the touristy areas of Monterey as well. All in all, a great stay!

You have to use your room key to exit the parking garage after you check out. We had left ours in the room, but the staff quickly gave us a different key we could use. It was a very minor inconvenience, but could delay someone in a hurry.

Efficient from arrival to departure. Valet parking excellent. Lobby filled with natural light and trees. Forgot to ask variety! Light was gentle and not over-done. Places to sit/work/wait quietly. Bedrooms well thought out with wardrobes sufficiently long for ladies' dresses to hang, moveable magnifying mirror, strong hooks for towels, holding rails in bath/shower, work area with decent lamp, choice of pillow shapes, sliding door for plenty of fresh air & louvred blinds to regulate air/light. Full lenth mirror in good position. So many hotel rooms don't work for women but this worked very well. Staff professional & helpful.

Maid service on request only so coffees not topped up or bins emptied routinely

Excellent location. Very close to the pier and Alvarado Street (restaurants). Short scenic walk to cannery row and the aquarium. The room was one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. Very comfortable beds and seating. We had two adjoining rooms (1 king and 2 queens in the other) for a family of four (with two adult children), and had plenty of space.

I didn't like the layout of the hotel. Unless you were one of the rooms in the same side of the pool and fitness center (the hotel lobby and majority of the rooms were not), you have to walk outside and across a busy public walkway to access these facilities. The WiFi was awful. Although you get free WiFi, it kicked you off A LOT so you had to frequently sign in. Water pressure in shower was VERY weak.

Exceeded my expectations! The shuttered window coverings that opened to a small balcony and absolutely beautiful view was a feature I would return for! Rooms were very light and airy with unique and soft lighting over the headboards. Spa robes were in the closet. Immediate access to specialty coffee shops, walking distance to the wharf as well as Cannery Row and even on down to Lovers Point, however we did choose to drive th 5 min. down for dinner in the evening. Also walking distance (within steps) to the main street shops in Monterey. Can't say enough about this beautiful property!

Hotel restaurant was just o.k. when next to such a variety of other restaurants down the street. Great service and beautiful roomy environment, but food could be improved.

upon entering you can tell it is a classy operation. the lobby awe inspiring yet comfortable. The rooms are beautifully appointed with all the amenities one would expect. the rooms were comfortable. Jacks, the restaurant was top notch. the servers are all pleasant and helpful. Antonio was especially personable and engaging. We also took advantage of the Spa. it was fabulous. we spent several hours for facials and massages. the price point was very reasonable for the services. Chris, the concierge was most helpful when we had to leave because flooding since we were headed back to San Fran. Portola is a favorite. We look forward to returning.

the dogs and cats that were allowed to stay. I am high allergic and would not want that to spoil my vacation if cat hair was in my room.

Rooms were clean, modern with comfortable beds. Great facilities with pool and gym.

Had an unfortunate experience with one staff member working at the hotel bar on Tuesday evening (31st May). I didn’t get the woman’s name but I asked if they were still selling food around 9.45pm and she responded I would need to order now as it was last call. I said sure and requested a menu. I was then asked to show ID, bare in mind I wasn’t ordering any alcohol. I handed over my UK drivers license (the same ID I used to check into the hotel) and was then told then I needed to show a U.S. passport as apparently my drivers license was not legitimate enough for her to put through a food order. I felt uncomfortable with her attitude after this and decided not proceed any further as I sensed this woman had every intention of making it unnecessarily difficult to order anything.

This is a fabulous hotel within a 5 minute walk of Fishermans Wharf. We were upgraded to a junior suite as there had been a bit of confusion with our booking, at no extra cost to ourselves. The room itself was really spacious with a large sofa and table area, 2 queen size beds and a patio area. The bathroom was spacious as well with a large walk in shower. Everything about the stay exceeded our expectations.

Just be aware that the pool isn't in the hotel itself, it is across the pedestrianised street in the Spa building. Oh, and having instructions in using the coffee machine in the room, but just to make sure - do not peel the lids of the capsules before inserting into the machine! Doh!

Very pretty lobby, the entrance is very spacious and there's a lot of parking spots near the hotel. The rooms are clean and cozy. They also have a nice outdoor pool and jacuzzi.

A lot of rooms don't have "normal views". Some are facing inner courtyard stairs/concrete walls, and because of the street level differences on two sides of the hotel, 5th floor is actually ground floor with windows looking to pedestrian streets, which was a poor experience since they didn't notify us at check-in (we specifically choose the highest floor for higher view). Yet, they are still charged the same price as other relatively better views on the 3-4th floor facing courtyard....
