Room was very nice and clean. All the staff we interacted with were exceptional. Had 3 meals at the restaurant and room service once. Food/service were excellent. I would recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay again.
No exhaust fan in the bathroom was a little surprising. But it didn't really affect our stay.

The hotel is beautiful and sparkling clean! Every staff person we encountered was extremely friendly - always with a smile and a hello. The beds were super comfy and our room was spacious. Our room had a Nespresso coffee machine which made delicious frothy coffee - I think I might need one for home now! The views from the lobby and outdoor patio areas are wonderful. Huge expanse of Monterey bay views and a group of sea otters and their pups living in the kelp just off shore of the hotel! The location is perfect. It’s an easy walk to Fisherman’s Wharf and an even easier walk to the shops and restaurants around Cannery Row.

I normally don't splurge on hotels but because it was a special occasion I decided to and am so glad I did. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. EVERY staff member I interacted with down to each valet driver was professional and friendly, making it feel like a luxury experience. Definitely pay for upgraded views-I requested a partial ocean view which was lovely and quiet. I liked that I could call valet to have my car ready for me by the time I got down to the door.
You do need to pay for parking, but the valet parking was fast and easy.

The hotel operations manager was incredible. I want to say his name was Matthew. The staff was amazing as well. The only place that was open was in the hotel for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the meals we had there were excellent! We will definitely be coming back. Thank you. Richard Borish
Because of the major storms we had major power outages. We stayed one night and bared through not having any power. No guarantees on when the power would come back on. All the shops and stores were closed so we decided to cut our trip short.

What makes this hotel special is the staff. I was organizing a surprise 2 night stay at the Monterey for my two sons flying in from LA and Austin for Christmas. I hadn’t seen them in 6 months. I’ve been in online hospitality since 1998. I’ve stayed at hotels in 38 countries, and worked with Booking.com in Singapore for several years, so I know what can go wrong. I needed a spacious room with two queen beds for the boys, and a king room for me, both with sea views and balconies. I called reservations and explained to Laura what I wanted. This wonderful lady spent over an hour on the phone describing rooms and doing everything possible so we could have perfect rooms next to each other. I even drove to Monterey to check the hotel, as recent storms had hit the area hard. It seemed a good time to also arrange some activities, and so I spoke with the Concierge, whose name is also Laura. She was so sweet and helpful, and went out of her way to also help with some last minute room details. In short, the two Lauras were amazing, and it’s thanks to their hard work and effort that we had such a great stay. They were patient, considerate, and very kind. It’s people like this that make the Monterey special. Mr Sommers, hold onto them!
My only complaint would be the restaurant staff. We found one waiter particularly rude and abrupt at breakfast. Dinner was limited to only a small dining area, because of damage to the rest of the terrace during storms several weeks earlier, but even at dinner, staff were not very friendly or professional. As a result, we opted to eat outside the hotel for most of our stay. There are plenty of restaurants in the area.

The main reason I marked it as lower value is that it was quite expensive for 1 night, and it was just a plain hotel.. nothing really that made it seem "extra" and worth the price. BUT it was comfortable and a great location. Fantastic restaurant on site and every staff member from valet to restaurant staff was lovely and very helpful.
PRICE! It was definitely expensive in terms of places I have stayed for the same cost that had more included amenities and cooler spaces.
