The property offers a secured garage for parking that’s cheaper than what other hotels in the area offer. The location is close to a lot of downtown restaurants and bars, and farther away from areas with a large homeless problem. The bathroom was nice, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
Room smelled a lot like desiccant (so it smelled like diapers and kitty litter), which took some getting used to. We assumed it was because the corner unit had two brick walls, and accumulated moisture easily

This is a comfortable boutique hotel in downtown Portland, OR. The front desk staff are very helpful and able to answer questions about dining options in the surrounding area. Our room was a nice size with king-size bed and a kitchenette.
Like many other cities, Portland has been struggling with homelessness and increasing street crime. We were glad to be able to park our personal vehicle in the hotel's garage. However, there are limited spaces available in the garage and we were unable to reserve a garage space ahead of time. It wasn't until the day of check-in that the hotel staff could confirm whether we could park in the garage. That added considerable stress to our trip - not knowing whether we needed to hunt around to find an alternative secure parking area. Parking in the garage incurs a daily fee. I would gladly commit to that fee when booking my reservation if it would guarantee a space in the garage.

We loved our room! It was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was super well stocked for what we needed. We loved the architecture of the hotel very much--just fabulous. The location was very good--we could easily walk to many stores, attractions, restaurants, etc. We really loved our stay.
The cleaning. The side table wasn't fully cleaned and the hide-a-bed covering wasn't fully cleaned either...so I think the cleaning could have been better. Also, I wish the deck top lounge/area would have been open. What an amazing feature. The front desk staff said it was undergoing some changes and it was very difficult to find staff right now so it would remain closed for the season.

The location was great! Just around the corner from Powell's Books and the Pearl District, there was good shopping and restaurants nearby. The staff went above and beyond and there was even a free "wine hour" every night with cheese and crackers in the lobby that added a lovely extra touch. Friendly front desk staff and comfortable rooms in a historic hotel! What more could you ask for?
The walls in this hotel are VERY thin - this is likely because it's such an old building. So if you're looking to be loud, this is not the place for you, otherwise it's really a great place!

location, cleanliness, close to cafes and restaurants and walking distance to a lot of things. The shower was modern and water pressure was great, hot water and I really appreciated that room service was only on request.
The elevator made a loud noise everytime it would open and could hear it throughout the night, as well as the mattress wasn't the most comfortable. I had one bar of wifi and went down to see if anything could be done, as I had to transfer files for work, front desk staff's response was 'no one else has complained' and when I asked if there was another network I could connect to, as the files were time sensitive, they said that the 'conference' network was only setup for conferences. So, I stood outside the hotel, using data to send the large files. (I also had no reception in the room for data)

The room I got was large, clean and comfortable. Mini-kitchen in our room was great for doing simpler meals. The hotel's location is great - easy to access just about anywhere by foot or public transport. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. The complimentary wine and cheese hour each day was excellent; the local wine they provided was really nice!
There's no fan in the bathroom, so the room gets humid after showers (more or less resolvable by leaving the window open and/or running the AC for a few hours). The bed was a bit soft for my liking; I imagine it'll be really comfortable for the vast majority of people but we prefer a harder bed. Also, wasn't an issue for me but accessibility into the main reception is an issue as there are stairs and seemingly no other means to gain access.

Small but comfortable room, but what you'd expect from a downtown hotel in an older, historic building. The bed was one of the best and most comfortable I've experienced in any hotel. There were a lot of nice restaurants and coffee shops in walking distance and I felt very comfortable walking in the area at night.
There is a lot of construction taking place around the hotel (not the hotel's fault!!), resulting in road closures which, in combination with the one-way streets, sometimes made it difficult to get to the hotel. The open air parking lot ($25 per night) was extremely tight, especially if you're driving a larger vehicle.

Great location: the Pearl district didn’t always have a great reputation but there has been huge overhaul of the area in the past few years (for better or worse). You can walk to some great restaurants and shops (gotta go a few blocks for the local stuff bc it’s mostly high end major retailers now). Everyone at the front desk for check in was super nice. There was a wine reception in the lobby where they offered 2 glass of wine for free so that was a lovely surprise. Our rooms were bigger than we expected from a hotel in a major city and an older building. Im used to tiny rooms in SF and NYC.
Nothing that anyone can control so I have nothing to add here.

The MSH is one of our favorite hotels in Portland. This time there was a maintenance issue with the room we had reserved, which is unfortunate as we really love that particular room. They put us in a nearly comparable room, comped the parking and left is a suite of in room amenities for the trouble. The staff are always courteous, caring and efficient and the location is great for our purposes.
There is a good deal of local construction going on, which doesn’t much matter on weekends, but worth knowing if you’re planning on sleeping in on a weekday.

Overall the hotel is great with nice staff and decor. A wine and cheese hour is a welcome touch. Helpful tips about nearby restaurants and parking were welcomed. I was upgraded for one night in a big corner room.
Well beyond the control of the hotel is the effect of homeless in the area which make the location a bit intimidating. Activity by them woke me one night and interactions at outside tables in nearby restaurants was constant.
