The location was central and walkable to all tourist sites. The staff were very welcoming. It was a non-smoking hotel. The rooftop terrace was a lovely place for breakfast with a view of the Acropolis.

There was only one drawback factor: the room was poorly sound insulated and, with a view directly onto the street, the pedestrian and motor vehicle noise at night did not permit easy and restful sleep time. This could be mitigated with double glazing for all windows.

Restored old building at base of Acropolis in popular/lively Plaka district. 300m or so walk from Acropolis metro station (red line). Easy to get to airport (red line one stop to Syntagma Square, then blue line to airport). We had 2 double rooms and the 2 bedroom top floor room for 8ppl (4 adults, 4 teenagers). All were very nice and AC kept them very cool which felt great on a 95 deg day. Nice coffee, tea amenities, and robes/lots of toiletries supplied. Breakfast on the rooftop was extensive and you chef made very nice breakfast (greek omelet, eggs, w bacon and salad, french toast) if desired but plenty of other food available. View of Acropolis at breakfast. We bought wine and sat up there in the evening also. Hotel owner runs the gelato stop on the corner also (exit front door, turn left at the end of the block). Area around hotel comes to life around 7pm with tons of restaurants opening after the heat of the day dissipates. Great place to stay. 8-10min walk to Acropolis entrance, then bit of a hike up to monuments themselves. Wear shoes with good traction. Lots of marble steps and dust make the walk slippery. I had my Hoka shoes on with good traction and still went down.

Our only issue was our bathroom flooded the morning we left (significant water came up the drain in the floor) from the sink running and flooded our room. We were leaving that morning so small panic trying to get water off floor and our stuff dry enough to repack and take home. They responded quickly with more towels to clean up. Issues like this can happen in older buildings. Everything else seemed well maintained so think it was just a fluke. We were in the first room on the right up the main stairs, room name started with "Egg....."

Great location. Nice little hotel, very unique. The price was great for the location. It's close to everything. You can see an ancient Greek monument even as you enter the door.

The "Acropolis view is over-sold. It's more the foundations you can see not the main structures. Nothing that bothered me but if you expect that view you wouldnt be happy.

This hotel was everything and more than I expected. First, the location of the hotel is close to almost everything you want to see in Athens. The parthenon entrance is two blocks away from the door of the hotel. Plaka is steps away from the door. Don't take my word for it, use Google maps and get directions to every major attraction in Athens and see for yourself. What you can't walk to, the Metro is just a few blocks walk away. The room was far bigger than I imagined. When the hotel says hot breakfast, they should say made-to-order. The entire staff was outstanding. Completely worth the price paid for the room. Nov 2023

I walked right to the street where the hotel was located, but I had a hard time spotting the hotel sign. The friendly greek population help me find the hotel entrance. Once there nothing but positive things to say about the hotel!!

Position was perfect to see everything. We divided Athens into 4 directions to see it all & never needed public transport at all. Restaurants, shops, cafes, supermarkets, pharmacies, public transport, everything you need is very close by. It was quiet (except for some guests who need to talk loudly in the hallway instead of inside their rooms). We stayed for 3 nights , went away to 2 islands for 4 nights & returned for another 5 nights, both times the rooms were lovely, the last room was very large which was great. Rooms are named after Poets & Writers & maybe Artists?, not numbered. There is a lift, it’s very tiny but perfectly adequate for 2 people & the staff always handled the bags for you. Breakfast was great, the reviews of French toast & omelettes are spot on, magnificent & large. Staff up in breakfast room are lovely & the view of Acropolis is excellent, especially at night - you are able to go up at any time so bottle of wine, snack, makes for a nice quiet evening. There are 3 people (forgive us if we have misspelled their names) who stand out for personality, kindness & humour - Night Manager Dimi - if we could have taken her home with us we would have, delightful, happy & so friendly. Faris seems to share Day Management with Thanos, both gentlemen are intelligent, warm & welcoming, everyone speaks English very well. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, always obliging. Laundry service is excellent. Taxi service is well organised & always exactly as quoted. Very comfortable bed & great shower, especially in our second room stay. These people could give lessons to bigger hotel chains about how to fit out a bathroom, they have thought of everything including storage in the shower enclosure. We highly recommend Home & Poetry.

Nothing of any significance, but you should know there are a couple of steps to front door, a few more inside & a couple of different levels to negotiate if you have mobility issues.

Property is located right in the heart of Plaka, nearby the Hadrian’s Arch and views of Acropolis. Breakfast is excellent, room was comfortable and warm (it was winter), staff is kind and helpful. Views from terrace during breakfast is a bonus. Netflix in the room was great for our boy. Staff helped when we’re ill and needed assistance to go to hospital. I would definitely stay there again. 10 minutes walk to Acropolis.

There was a strong smell of cigarettes outside our room, in the hallway, everyday of our stay. There was a confusion with taxi driver to the airport arranged through the hotel charging a price different from the meter. Best to discuss prices before with them.

Lovely personable staff went over and above to offer assistance and give advice of nearby attractions. Generously sized junior suite very comfortable with all the amenities of five star accommodation. They provided a great breakfast while sitting enjoying a magnificent view of the Acropolis which is both a smorgasbord and a menu of hot food made to order. Previously, they stored some luggage while we did a 3 day trip before we returned. Also Dimitra was so delightful and helpful when arranging ferries to our stays on two islands. We naturally returned for our last 3 nights. A highly recommended wonderful choice of hotel in Athens, affordable and in a central location providing a very comfortable stay.

Great location in the heart of Plaka and easy access to all the wonderful sights to see in Athens. We were greeted very late by a charming lady on reception who was very helpful and informative. The hotel is very traditional with a wonderful roof top area where breakfast is served and it overlooks the Acropolis which is fabulous. The breakfast is also fantastic with a wide range of options and the staff cannot do enough for you and are very warm and welcoming. The room was huge with a separate huge bathroom and a wonderfully comfortable bed and pillows. Whilst there were ear plugs next to our beds we slept with the window open and no noise disturbed us at all. We were in Gatsos room. Highly recommend this hotel.

I really loved my stay at Home and Poetry. I was in a comfort room which was large and clean with an exceptionally comfortable bed. Each room is named after a poet and there is a framed poem on the wall. I arrived quite late in the evening but the receptionist was waiting for me. All the staff were kind, professional and discreet. As a middle aged woman travelling on my own I really appreciated that. Special shout out to Thanos who was very warm and kind. Breakfast was lovely on the rooftop terrace with lovely views over the rooftops to the Acropolis. The location is amazing- for the hotel to be so central to Plaka and still so quiet is amazing. It’s mid- range in terms of price. This will be my go to hotel in my favourite city of Athens from now on.

Excellent central location in the Plaka district, very close to the main sightseeing attactions, as well as to the walking streets and restaurants. Nicely renovated butique hotel with spacious and clean rooms, and reasonable prices. The staff is very kind and responsive. Our flight schedule had changed and therefore we arrived earlier but we got an early check-in with welcome coffee. Also, on the day of a long ship cruise excursion we got an early breakfast before the official time. Breakfast is excellent, and is privided on the 4th floor rooftop terrace with breathtaking view to the Acropolis and the Lycabetos Hill. Last but not least, we liked the Greek poems on the wall of our room.

Street noise was sometimes bothersome. Also, the air conditioner was a little bit noisy. WiFi could have been stronger. Water pressure in the shower was a little bit low. (We stayed in room Ritsos on the 2nd floor.)
