Castle Grove Country House Hotel

The Hotel is beautiful, old worldly, you feel like you're in Downton Abbey. Each room is tastefully furnished with such attention to the finer details, Coving, light fittings and the chandeliers. The meals were exceptional, cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and a wonderful variety to choose from. For me, it was the wonderful staff who were so friendly, polite and professional, there was nothing that was too much trouble for them, and their sole focus was on making my stay as perfect as it could be. If you're looking for a really special getaway, this is it.

A real luxurious treat! Staff were highly professional and made us feel exceptionally well looked after. Great to see such a graceful property not selling out and maintaining as originally classical look as possible whilst still operating as a hotel and restaurant. Rooms make you feel appropriately spoiled and the setting is a real break from the normal pace of life. The walk to the river is not to be missed - I haven’t experienced calmness like that for long time.

Nothing we didn’t like at all. We wish the owners well in their clearly hard efforts to get all the property and grounds up to the same high standards we saw in the rooms and restaurant.

The house is oozing with old world charm and has a beautifully relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the service, where they bring you your drinks while you relax in the drawing room, really enhances the experience. Our room was a very good size and the location of the hotel is wonderful, overlooking Lough Swilly with only the mooing of cows to disturb the tranquility. Dinner in the restaurant was very good, especially the scallop and prawn dishes.

Our room was pretty cold despite the heating being on. Blankets were provided on request but really ought to have been in the room. Also we felt the wine list could be improved and the staff could be given a little training on the wines available, to match the quality of the food on offer. Neither of these matters are big criticisms but intended as feedback that could be taken on board.

Our room was gorgeous and the bathroom with both a huge tub for soaking and a large shower for convenience was incredible! Breakfast on the gorgeous dining room was delicious! We loved the fancy decor and all the antiques. We felt very comfortable! It was our favourite hotel of our two week holiday!

The grand rooms and the exquisite interior design. The quietness of being in the countryside and the overall location. The hardworking and friendly staff. The proximity to Derry and nearby attractions.

The cooking here is incredible. The chef is amazing. Dinner was excellent. I had squid for main course and it has never tasted as well as that in Ireland. Fish and beef main courses both excellent. We had breakfast delivered to our enormous suite. Long walk in garden down to the lake shore afterwards. Only disappointment was having to leave.

Minor point which always annoys me whenever I see it . The full Irish Breakfast, which was very good refers in the menu to “eggs “ ; but only one was served . You should not have to ask for two eggs

I loved staying at Castlegrove! It was absolutely fantastic, nice spacious room and the food was sensational. I really enjoyed it and will definitely stay again whenever we are next in the area. Thank you Irene for looking after us so well.

I wish we could have stayed longer. It's a lovely old Irish Big House. Nothing to complain about!

From the minute we arrive we got a lovely warm welcome This house is so fabulous, vintage decor,beautiful manicured lawns and lovely staff. Breakfast was so lovely, and everything was homemade down to the orange juice. The bed was by far the most comfortable hotel bed I've stayed in and so quiet in the morning I've never had a more relaxing stay

Fantastic welcome... also a great goodbye. Super friendly staff. Nothing was a problem. Food was great. Complementary tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the stay.

Shower facilities on the ground floor were poor. Could do with renovating.
