Hotel California

We were double minded before reaching the hotel as there were mixed reviews. Our room was 405 with 1 double bed and 2 single bed. The room was big enough for our family of 4. Everyday room cleaning was done and so the rooms were always clean. When water was not getting dried in washroom, we informed the reception in the morning before we left for tour and by the time we came back, the problem was solved. Very happy with the room service and the friendly staff.

It would have been better if there were changes in breakfast. We stayed for 5 days and all these days the breakfast was the same. But yes, compared to many other hotels where only croissants and tea were served, this was far better.

Excellent location to Termini station and the beds were perfectly firm just like we both like. The check in was superb the staff all very friendly and helpful.

Well the room itself was a decent size because there is no desk but that makes it somewhat tight to use the room in a comfortable manner but that said I would not change anything by adding a desk because then the room would defiantly be way to small. Since we only stayed 2 night this was not a real issue for us but could be if you need to do some remote work from the room using your notebook.

The hotel is really close to all the important Rome attractions (15mins to Colosseum, 20mins to Trevi Fountain and to Spanish Steps). The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The personnel very friendly and helpful. The WiFi was excellent.

The room had a moldy smell each time we would come from outside even if the window was opened all day long. The breakfast was very poor in choices (boiled eggs, cold omelette, some slices of salami and cheese). If you're not very comfortable with your partner, it might be awkward using the toilet and the shower (see the pictures).

THE BED. 10/10 I had a 3 nights stay and I gotta say that’s the best bed I’ve ever slept on in my life. The room was nice, and ok for the price considering the fact that it’s super close to Roma Termini. If you’re planning on traveling to other cities then staying here would be the best choice. Staff was great and breakfast was ok, nothing out of this world but it gets you full for sure.

The room keycard stopped working on the last night and the guy at the front desk didn’t give me another key but instead went to open himself, which meant we couldn’t go out as we pleased without having to ask again for him to come and open. He was young and I believe he didn’t know what to do because the next morning another person in less than a minute was able to give me a new key.

The place was incredibly clean! Easily the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in. Thank you to the ladies who came everyday and made the room look brand new each time. The value for money ratio is very good and I'm happy we chose this hotel. If we ever visit Rome again I'll be coming back to stay.

There was a strong drain smell that came from the toilet room and only disappeared if the AC was on. I feel this is probably more to do with the city's poor sewage system rather than the hotel because we smelt that same smell around the city. The only other issue was that the walls were very thin and we could hear the conversations of the people in the next room if they spoke (or sang) in the shower/bathroom.

The check in staff were very friendly and helpful regarding check in/ luggage storage/ surrounding areas and guided tours and how best to utilise the short time we were in Rome, they were helpful regarding transport to the hotel and to visit other sites too.

Everything was great including the breakfast included in our stay. The kitchen staff were very amicable. I have an allergy to milk and they had soya milk on hand for my morning coffee! They also had a large spread of food available in the breakfast buffet which was very filling and healthy!

The location is ideal, the breakfast was more than I expected. The room was a lot bigger than I expected, for a city centre hotel. Large bathroom and good shower.

The free toiletries are not really worth bothering with; a tiny sachet of shower gel which is not really fit for purpose. Bring your own, or buy on arrival.

Price and location in the city. A little dated but the rooms are clean and have everything you need. Our room was cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied. Breakfast was great and had something for everyone. The reception staff spoke good English and were always on hand if you needed any help. Trevi fountain, colosseum and the Spanish steps all within a 20/30 minute walk. Termini station was 5 minutes away. Several well priced restaurants in the street outside of the hotel, all with great food.

As mentioned the hotel is a little dated in places . The tram line ran straight outside of the hotel but not a massive problem.

Hotel California is very convenient to Termini train station in Rome. The included breakfast is more than ample, with many choices of food. The desk staff are very helpful in calling taxis and with advice about local customs. The internet connection is strong. The room was clean and made up each day. These nearby restaurants with outside seating are good and very reasonably priced.

The bed was really hard. Only one small chair was provided - but there really wasn't room for more.

Friendly and helpful staff. Location close to train station,also the bus,taxi are located there. Willing to store luggage if needed. Breakfast was very good, clean and plenty of choices. Also many nice resturants in the area,including the black eagle which is literally outside the hotels exit door. This was my second stay here. I will continue to use this hotel as my goto when either arriving or departing Rome as the rail station connects to the airport via the Leonard express .

Know that the rooms are small and not the type lounge around in. The elevator also small and used by the maid staff. Not a big deal, just know to set expectations.
