Holiday Inn Auckland Airport, an IHG Hotel

service and putting things right was exceptionally fast breakfast was great, staff were helpful when flight was delayed by airline,

an area to dine in if the restaurant is closed i.e. other than the bar as this is not appropriate for children to dine here. dinner left a little bit lacking in choice for a holiday inn but was nice. some activities for kids during the school holidays would be great. hotel WIFI reconfigured my phone and now I am getting spam adverts in my messages and also my phone does not recognise my contacts anymore. going to have to go to telephone technician to sort it out.

The staff were extremely helpful, particularly Marita and the gentleman at the front desk. They organised trolleys for the luggage to and from the room and helped us to find a hire car. Everyone was very friendly, polite and helpful. The room was clean and quiet, with comfortable beds and air conditioning should you require it. Hairdryer provided and a large screen television. Room service was prompt and the pizza for two tired travellers was perfect!

We had a knock on our around 8am to ask when we were vacating our rooms - I appreciate that we didn’t put the do not disturb sign out but still feel this was a little early! We have downgraded our stay as the smell from the drains in the bathroom of room 1158 was awful. When mentioning this we were told it would be looked in to.

Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Front desk team were amazing. The decor was refreshing and welcoming was like hotels overseas. I loved how there was a kids corner which my grandkids really enjoyed and utilised wet weather. The aircon was perfect, muggy outside and cool every time we entered our room. Ample parking, loved how accessible everything was so thank you Holiday Inn.

The Christmas buffet breakfast at $40 for in-house guests. I’ve had breakfast before at normal price $32 and no difference so thinking we were covering surcharge? May want to consider poached eggs over boiled? Otherwise team worked hard to cater for everyone.

location and quietness

difficult to log into wifi, had to download an app to read the hotel information then join a loyalty club to join the wifi, all a bit of a palaver, especially after a long day travelling

Breakfast selection was one of the best I have seen for a long time. The staff were so helpful and accommodating for us, especially when it was our first few days in New Zealand.

The location is really in the middle of nowhere. There are some local cafes and a pub nearby but you do have to walk for about 20mins. It is difficult to see much of Auckland unless you take a taxi or bus. That is the only downside. Booking.com said there is a free shuttle from the airport to the hotels. It's not really true. Whilst the shuttle service was brilliantly on time and fast, it was not free as advertised.

The room itself was amazing! The staff were so friendly and ensured we were well taken care of during our stay.

Unfortunately there was an altercation with a few unpleasant gang tourists whom made the stay quite uncomfortable as they were all gathered around the main entertainment area and pool. Not only was this intimidating for most families especially those who have kids and wanted to use the pool but the behaviour and inconsideration of those guest was just plain rude. Staff were so awesome at handling the situation whilst also ensuring their guest were SAFE at all times. Staff did a fantastic job to keep everyone safe and comfortable despite how uncomfortable the situation put them in.

The customer service was fantastic, we arrived early and the staff did everything they could to get us checked in; specifically on the ground floor because of our luggage and the fact that we were traveling with kids. We loved that there was a restaurant on property because we didn’t have a vehicle, so being able to order room service and have a buffet breakfast was amazing and it was delicious! The room was clean and comfortable, not so cold inside that we needed the heaters.

My kids were a little bummed that the pool was closed for renovations, but other than that, everything was exceptional!

Probably nothing to do with the place of stay but my son left his teddy bear and travel pillow in the reception area and i think someone may have taken it as the staff said nothing was turned in, also the beer on tap wasn't cold and not having some where, where you can get water freely cause paying $6 for a can of drink is too much for my budget. $45 for Buffet dinner was good and $35 buffet brekky, half price for children over 5 not kids stay and eat free.

1st day 7am. Breakfast was fully stocked, we were the only people there. 2 x eggs benes took 18 minutes to be delivered. Beung an executive chef, i know it doesnt take that long, i was curious why the chef kept going out thr back but coming back empty handed. Obviously the cooking kitchen is out the back but it was very distracting seeing her going backward and forth at least 8 times before our brekky came. 2nd day 10am we had breakfast, hotline, no mush, tomatoes, pancakes . When I asked chef for more mushrooms etc she said under her breath but we are closing soon. I looked her in the eye and said, yes soon. Not now. I'm a family of 4 and 6 walked in after me, get more on. Why is she cooking (actually burning) streaky bacon in a frying pan when her flat top wasn't on or being used, her used Bain Marie's pans were sitting on the flat top instead. Squeezing a packet of bacon into a frying pan is silly, it doesn't cook evenly and she actually had it on high so it burnt on one side. It's also a shame you don't make your hollandaise but I understand with the skill set available, cost of eggs and butter but we make a 3 x block hollandaise on quiet days and it lasts for 6 hours easy 3 x eggs bene took 20 minutes again, quite long as there were no orders infront of our table. Overall thses are chef criticisms, food was fine, freshness good, overall it was fine but always can be better

Very comfy and very quiet hotel close to the airport with an $8 pay shuttle on regular service. This hotel was really nice because not only were the rooms spacious and very comfortable with great bed, comfy lounge chairs and fridge, kettle etc, but the rooms on the ground floor have a patio area looking out onto pretty gardens with ponds and lots of trees and plants. Accordingly there was no traffic noise and made this hotel unique in a hotel close to an airport. The upstairs rooms have outside chairs also, but the downstairs rooms benefitted from the protective overhang of the deck above. Restaurant and bar for morning breakfast, dinner etc at usual New Zealand hotel prices. Lovely friendly staff allowed us an early check in and this was much appreciated after a long road trip. The outside pool looks like it would be great, but was under renovation at the time of our stay. No worries. One of the nicest hotels i have stayed at and would absolutely recommend.
