The room was really clean and comfortable with kettle, coffee maker with very nice coffee pods as well as a kettle and good choice of tea bags and coffee bags. Fresh milk and cold water in the fridge. Nice little chocolates. I really loved the quirky decor with the bear theme and the towels made into teddy bears. Lovely natural and cruelty free toiletries to use in the bathroom that smelled lovely. The room and the whole pub had lovely decor and very clean. The breakfast was very good and plenty of choice and staff were friendly. We don't have a dog but we noticed that the pub appeared very doggie friendly and there were doggy blankets and water bowls that you could use. We couldn't ask for more.

Nothing, we loved it all.

The location and room selection was good and suitable for what we needed. The room was well presented and we enjoyed the facility of a mini fridge. As it was warm weather, we also appreciated the fact that there was a an AC unit available in the room and that it had been switched on prior to our arrival. The coffee and tea making equipment were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. Especially the coffee machine. Nice shower and bathroom facilities. In fairness to the staff on duty, all issues raised were acted upon very quickly.

The AC unit was whirring every 1-2 minutes for about 3-4 seconds while it was switched on. This became very annoying during the night as it kept us both awake. Tried to open the windows for fresh air instead but only allowed us a small 4-8 inches of opening space on one window. This meant a very warm two nights were had. The upper mattress cover of the bed had become flattened, which meant that there were indentations in the bed of previous occupiers. This made the bed uncomfortable. Although the staff tried to remedy this by turning the upper mattress protector, it did not solve the problem, and it wasn't until I removed the mattress protector that a comfortable night was had. The mattress protector was also stained from previous guests.

This is an absolute gem . Warm friendly staff, excellent, comfortable room with many extras you don't get in a hotel. We stayed one night in Hooke (all the rooms have a name ) it was a lovely ,clean & very comfortable room. Beautifully decorated - I loved the gorgeous heavy curtains in particular. The bed was big , extremely comfortable with crisp white linen. Tea & coffee making facilities of a very high standard plus a fridge with fresh mik & cold water a real bonus. The bathroom had all we required & absolutely gorgeous toiletries by Bramley in refillable bottles - think the Bear should stock some to sell as I'm sure I'm.not the only guest to have fallen in love with these products. We had dinner here & that was really good, food was of a very high standard. Price wise it's on par along with the drink to most places today. Breakfast was fabulous, with a good selection of hot dishes plus a small but equally good cold buffet. So nice to stay somewhere that still cooks breakfast to order & included in the price of the stay too.

We had Duncliffe Room, in the attic area. Ensuite was light and had Bramley toiletries with powerful shower and bedroom had Nespresso machine, huge comfy bed, with full length mirror and Bluetooth Marshall radio. Wonderful staff included Mama Bear Manageress, Deputy Manager who excuded charm and can-do attitude and absolutely made our Stay and Southbourne beach guy who served us on the first day and was really friendly. Also, Newspapers in Bar area, fantastic decking and massive Carpark. Attention to detail in this place is key. We had fish and chips in restaurant, best ever. The breakfasts were delightful and so many thanks to this Chef, who is obviously brilliant.

There was nothing we didn't like. Even though we had a great deal with Booking.com I can imagine the price reflects the quality of the place so is well deserved and we couldn't begrudge the prices of food or drinks.

The staff were warm, welcoming and efficient both at check-in, during dinner, breakfast and at check out. When arrived we were shown to our room which was cosy, with a lovely decor - think country with a contemporary twist! The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and it was a nice surprise to find a lovely range of tea and coffee options in the room along full size bottles of toiletries! We dined at the restaurant and the menu was varied with something for everyone - I can recommend the delicious celeriac soup and giant lobster with French fries! The Breakfast menu again offered a nice choice of cooked options and lighter bites such a very generous fruit platter - all served to your table.

Only (small) criticism is the lack of pillow options and we found the ones in our room to be too firm (anti-allergy, not down).

The food was good and arrived in a timely manner. My husband had the octopus to start and I have to say it was some of the best octopus we’ve had, I had crab on toast which was delicious. We both had the beef short rib for main, mine was a little dry but my husband enjoyed his. We had the suite with the copper bath which was beautiful, I enjoyed the bath but no matter what I did the water did keep seeping slowly away. Air con was great and very quiet, shutters and curtains kept room nice and dark, both appreciated as travelled in summer.

Check in wasn’t clear where to go, my husband interrupted a lady serving a drink to a customer and she was rather rude which wasn’t the best start, obviously a busy day and he should have waited to speak to her but she could have handled it better.

The area and village was wonderful, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The pub area was great and the food was very tasty. They were very welcoming to my dog despite being a puppy, he even had a water bowl, toy and some treats in the room waiting for him which was a lovely thoughtful touch.

When I arrived at breakfast (not the first person and not the minute it started) the continental was lacking - this was all bought out while I was eating my hot food which was a shame as much of it looked really lovely and the rest of the food was fab.

Our 2nd visit did not quite match up to our last of a year ago, but in most respects it was still excellent. The quality of the fittings, attention to detail and comfort are all highlights.

Our bedroom and bathroom struck cold during the evening. The air conditioning is perhaps too high tech for its own good and it took a half hour after telling reception for it to recover to an acceptable level. This is I'm sure an isolated problem but it does seem dependent on central control and cannot be easily adjusted in the room. The change from winter settings could have also been a factor.

We came to stay for my sons wedding locally and we were a party of 6. We were located closely as requested and the rooms were amazing, stylish as per pictures and very clean. The staff were all really friendly and efficient. On our 1st night (thurs 27th Tina T eve) a young chap ( dont know what his name was) served us very well but the table / party next to us complained of the service being diabolical which was not our experience despite it being very busy. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
