We have visited Melville Inn on several previous occasions so we are familiar with the Inn, locality & bus service etc

We didn't ask for disabled showers /bathrooms, perhaps these would be more useful to disabled customers. We need to know how to avoid this on our next booking! Service & delivery of breakfast on previous occasions had taken a long time so on this occasion we chose NOT to eat next door.

Staff were absolutely lovely, respectful, and very welcoming. The Melville Inn was a very welcome option for meals since it was a standalone restaurant rather than a "hotel restaurant". The power shower was amazing, and the toilet was sufficiently spacious. The room was very big too and I had no troubles despite bulky luggage.

The location was rather abysmal if you wanted to visit the city centre, a good 20 minute drive, and costs at least 15 pounds on Uber one way. While there was a bus out, it was rather far from the property. I found it rather unfortunate that breakfast was limited to one set, and some drinks were pay-to-order rather than free flow (though coffee, tea, and juices were free). Finally, the king sized bed was just 2 beds placed next to each other, which was obvious to the touch of the divider between the two beds.

Check in was easy and quick. There was an elevator which was not very common in the places we previously stayed. The rooms were good sized and there was air conditioning. The beds were comfy and the room was very clean and well kept. The restaurant on property was amazing and you can get a cook to order breakfast. Breakfasts and evening meals were wonderfully prepared and the staff was very conscientious of dietary needs. I definitely will be going back if I am ever in Edinburgh.

The internet. Upon checking in, there wasn't any notification that if you had an international number you could not use their system to log in. It was not conveyed that you need to utilize internet as a guest user. They now have signage explaining this but for four days I had no internet on my computer. It was a bit annoying but I understood the staff couldn't do anything about it because of corporate policies.

Food was wonderful. The decor is absolutely lovely. The bar area and restaurant very homey. Staff were lovely and very helpful and accommodating.

I wished the windows would open. We didn't get much sleep because the room was so stuffy. There is an air con unit but it wasn't explained how it worked, so we had a very airless night. Was resolved by the staff the next day. Advice for people coming into the hotel - ask the staff when you arrive how to work the air con unit, or state your preference upfront for whether you want it on/blasting cool air or hot air, as they can also control it centrally.

The place was fresh and clean

I pointed out these problems to reception when I left and they agreed with them Only one down light in bathroom, could not see anything to freshen up or put make on AT ALL. THE window in Bedroom was sealed you couldn't open it, OK Aircon in room but you need circulation in a room, very stuffy indeed No wardrobe for clothes, only a peg on wall to hang clothes this is no good if your staying for a week. Breakfast only caters for Englush breakfasts, NOT continental, like cerals, pastries, fresh hams, cheese, muffins, And most of all FRESH FRUIT, hence in our 5 day stay we only had breakfast on the first day, so unless these faults are not seen to then we would not return, such a shame because all else was perfect.

Location was very good. Easy access from Edinburgh ring road by car. Plenty of parking. Bus stop 3 mins walk from hotel with regular bus services into city centre. Check in done online which made this very quick. 2 lifts. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Pub on site is very nice with tasteful decor, friendly staff and good quality food. Menu is not extensive but offers a good variety of dishes ( not the usual "pub grub") . Breakfast menu was also good value with a wide range of choices. Very popular so booking is a must! There is a Dobbies Garden Centre next to hotel as well as a Waitrose and Waitrose Cafe. There were a few other outlet stores.

Just the fact windows are sealed so you can't access fresh air. There was good air conditioning though. Signage on roundabout to show access to hotel, which is next to Dobbies.

The staff was so friendly and helpful! I opted to include breakfast with my room, and the adjoining restaurant had great options, and the food was really tasty. My room was clean and very comfortable. The bus lines are close and easy to access, and it's an interesting ride into the city through a bit of rural areas and suburbs. I liked being out of the hustle of the city at the end of the day.

Not really a dislike but one should be aware: the bus ride into Edinburgh takes a good 20-35 minutes, depending on time of day and how busy it is. Also note there's no phone, clock or fridge in the rooms.

The property had beautiful decor in the main reception. Rooms were very modern and huge in size. Plenty of towels which is something you do not always get in hotels. Check in and out we’re swift and easy. No issues. Staff were very pleasant. Couldn’t have asked for more, would definitely return. We were hoping to book further near the centre of edinburgh but with the prices rocketing in the first week of July we opted for this hotel. Still over our budget for 3 nights but met all our needs. Near shops and food places too.

Nothing, the area was further out than we would want but this is preference and doesn’t reflect on the hotel

The hotel is welcoming, clean and the rooms updated to modern standards. The staff are friendly, and the Inn (for dinner and breakfast) is really outstanding. The price was competitive, and location is convenient to Edinburgh and East Lothian, with plenty of parking. Rooms are quiet despite proximity to main roads.

Literally the only issue we had was the hardness of the beds. The beds and mattresses were not old, I think they were relatively new and in good condition, there were no lumps or springs like you find in older hotel beds, however the choice of hard mattresses was just not great for us. People used to hard mattresses would not have an issue, but if you're used to medium or soft, or usually sleep on memory foam, you might have to ask for an extra duvet to sleep on top of.

The staff were really great, both on reception & at the bar/restaurant. We enjoyed the food and the breakfast was a welcome change from the usual buffet, with a proper menu. We stayed here for 2 nights to attend a funeral at the nearby crematorium & the location was ideal. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Bed was large and very comfortable. Blackout curtains worked and we slept well.

The Wi-Fi dropped out, it was easy enough to log back in, but I had to log in every time I picked up my phone. We paid £175 a night because the timing of our stay and the difficulty getting a hotel in the area. They upped their usual prices, but nowhere near as much as others we looked at.
