We had had a difficult day (funeral) and arrived tired at the hotel. However we found the staff empathetic, very helpful and friendly, exceptionally so. After a late dinner we joined in with their Friday night rock and roll bingo and it was actually just what we needed after our stressful day, very funny. Food was good, room was lovely, and we felt that this is a truly excellent little establishment. I hope that they are popular in their locale because they really deserve it, an astounding little place, thank you and well done :)

It was excellent all round

Appearances can be deceptive - the kerbside appeal isn't necessarily there - but this little pub is nicely appointed inside and offers a great B&B service. The bar was well stocked; restaurant food was well presented and adapted for GF; bedrooms were comfortable and clean. The full English breakfast, although extra, was superb. There was live music when we were there but all finished at a reasonable hour and it was quiet overnight. In fact, the live music was superb and a real bonus. Highly recommend for an affordable, comfortable stay.

The AC/kitchen fan unit is outside below the twin room. Found it quite noisy on Sunday morning but very minor moan. My head didn’t want to deal with it…

The staff were incredibly efficient and friendly and when we said we couldn't make our second evening restaurant reservationas we were delayed, they offered to put sandwiches up for us. Super staff and good food....morning croissants were yummy! Would return.

Just a shame no cooked breakfast at hotel mid week, although is available from local shop. However, certainly not a reason not to go....Good selection of continental available...croissants with Nutella! Defo doing that at home!

Despite a little disorganisation from a recent management change, the breakfasts both days were excellent. The food on the first evening was also good with a good choice on the menu, including vegetarian options. The chef(s) did very well.

The noisy fellow guests who woke us up at midnight as they went to bed. The mattress on one of the beds wasn't particularly comfortable. The noise from the kitchen fan was a bit intrusive, but fortunately it was switched off at a reasonable time.

a perfect small hotel in the middle of the English countryside ! the rooms were very clean and spacious and even though the room looked to the street , it was very quiet ! Breakfast was full English and we enjoyed every bite of it ! we really liked the pub right on the ground floor and it had a wonderful garden to sit outside but its people is always the best asset ! John was a marvellous host , always smiling and friendly and along with his wife , they run together the family business! we enjoyed every moment there , thank you again for your hospitality!

A nicely decorated room in a pleasant pub. The bed was comfortable. The shower was hot. We had dinner in the pub - good pub food reasonably priced. Although the pub only does cooked breakfast at the weekend they supplied a ‘brunch bag’ with croissants, jam and fruit. There was also information about the village shop where you could get a cooked breakfast. The village shop/cafe was worth the short walk for breakfast.

A lovely pub in a small village 5 miles from Alton town centre in Hampshire. We wanted a place to stay while we visited my son and his girlfriend. We had my parents with us too, and the six of us had dinner and breakfast at the pub. The rooms were cosy and clean, the food was excellent and the service very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely stay here again. We chatted with the chef, who clearly takes great pride in what he does and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend.

We stayed at the poacher inn for one night in mid August. The staff were very helpful, food was really good. What we liked about it was it still seemed to keep a lot of the original features, from years gone by. There are 3 local hikes in and around the vicinity of the pub. I would highly recommend staying here.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Nothing g was too much travel. We also ate here, which was very good. Rooms were beautifully decorated and comfortable.

Only a minor point, but none of our rooms had soap at the handbasin, which meant you had to lean in to the shower each time you washed your hands.

The breakfast was excellent, none of us could fault it. The location was suitable for our weekend away. John and his staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Nothing was too much trouble. It is nice to have interaction and laughs with John and his staff. We ate an evening meal on both nights of our stay and the food was superb, well done to the chef.

There was road noise, but that was not a problem as it was quiet during the night when we were asleep and we weren't there during the day. So not really a problem,
