The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Always happy to help and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely, although lots of items were unavailable. The breakfasts were especially good. The Full English was generous and the poached eggs on the Eggs Benedict, and Florentine were perfect. The home made steak and ale pie was also delicious and a very decent amount of filling. The free quiz on Thursday night was fun, and not just because we won! Beware if you are over 5ft 5 as there are low beams everywhere- I'm only 5'2" so was fine, but I can see why there are leather cushioned sections throughout the bar. The area was really quiet and peaceful. The pub was old and quirky, with lots of pictures on the walls, so plenty to look at in the bar. The beer garden had a lovely view over the fields, and is a perfect spot for a relaxing drink in the sunshine. The room was nice and big, and the shower nice and powerful with plenty of hot water. The bed was comfy. The TV could do with being slightly bigger given its on the wall opposite the bed, so a bit far away, and two armchairs would have been better than one for both of us to relax, as there was room, but that's just a personal preference.

There was a fire alarm activation in the night and the evacuation wasn't handled very well. No one was around when we made our way downstairs although someone did eventually appear and say it was just dust. Staff were hard to find at times, probably due to it being quiet and them having multiple tasks so we had to wait to be seated for breakfast and for drinks to arrive or to place our order in the restaurant. Lots of items on the evening menu were unavailable, which fortunately didn't affect us, but given the restaurant wasn't busy was surprising. It would have been nice to have some information on local walks from the pub available as part of the guest information in the rooms, together with a bit of the history of the pub and the area.

Dear Anchor Inn 'family', we enjoyed our stay on 12 July very much. Nice to be made at ease at the 2nd day of our holiday. The young lady at the reception, called Lucy (my wife's namesake), was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. During the evening meal she and the other assistants as well showed a rarely high level of professional behaviour to their guests. We loved the old building and its atmosphere. The only setback was the fact that one of the villagers showed us a nice rural walk, on which .... we got lost in the fields (haha). Will be back on the 25 & 26 for the final days of our summer holidays. Lucy & Martin of Heythuysen NL

Friendly staff at all points of contact, couldn't fault the service., Great location (we attended a wedding at Bury Court). Had lunch on arrival and really enjoyed the food, excellent breakfast too. Everywhere was lovely and clean and rooms had everything you would need. Just a pity we didn't have more time to spend there. Hope we get the opportunity to revisit in the future.

Nothing. The only slight niggle was the dim lighting but that was down to the age of the building I think. It certainly wouldn't put me off returning or recommending to friends.

Really lovely setting, spacious and quirky room and fantastic bathroom. The food and drink were served in the garden as it was such a lovely evening and we were able to do the same for breakfast - excellent service from the staff at all times. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

The only reasons I couldn’t give this excellent throughout were that I ordered champagne to be delivered to the room for my partner’s birthday and, despite checking what time we were arriving, it wasn’t there. I cancelled it, as the moment was lost. Also a group of people were drinking in the bar beneath our room till almost 4am, so we got no sleep till dawn. I believe the pub manager was not aware of this, so not their fault but it did rather spoil an otherwise lovely experience.

Lovely room with a nice balcony and view though it overlooked the pub garden so didn’t feel very private. Nicely decorated room and good size bathroom, lovely big and comfy bed.

I had contacted the property to our stay to make sure we’d be able to have breakfast in the restaurant as we were going to a wedding so needed something substantial. When we arrived we were told they only provide a continental breakfast to the room - it was a croissant, a pot of jam and an apple. Very disappointed, especially as they are clearly fully open as a pub and serving food so it can’t be due to covid. Also, though they provided a travel cot there was no mattress, just the base layer so we had to fashion something out of pillows as it was incredibly hard and no way our baby would have slept on that.

The staff was really friendly, helpful, very nice. The place is also really nice and the room was big, the entire place is well decorated and cosy.

The weather was hot. The room was fully open facing the sun. Extremely hot. scorching hot. Until the night finally came! The balcony doors can’t close. it gives a rather strange feeling. You need to study rocket science to be able to operate the shower. Or choose the freezing one. it was ok given the heat.

A quick overnight stay on the way to Goodwood but it's a charming old pub and the room was large and nicely decorated with quirky furniture and a large comfy bed. Food was excellent and a decent pint so all good.

We booked B&B but when we arrived were informed that they couldn't do breakfast, we did get a refund with was fair enough. The shower only had a fixed rain head shower fitting so that was somewhat limiting to my wife who didn't want to wash her hair every time she showered.

Lovely stay. I was staying away with work and had a long day so didn't arrive until 8pm, luckily they managed to reserve me a dinner reservation and the meal was stunning! I have a gluten and shellfish allergy and they were able to cater no problem. Meal was beautiful. Room was lovely, large and had everything I needed - would definitely stay again.

Breakfast would have been good, unfortunately they were only offering continental which I can't utilise due to allergies, otherwise it was a great place to stay.

Staff were super friendly and made our stay enjoyable. Despite not being able to provide the cooked breakfast due to staff shortages, the continental breakfast provided was superb and had lots of choice!

The isn't the pubs fault, but we struggled to get taxis from what we thought were "local" taxi services, however they wouldn't travel the 10/15 mins down the road to collect us. A list of recommended local taxi services would be really useful.

Staff were consistently very nice and happy to deal with, it is only fair to say everyone was very welcoming and made me feel very ingratiated into this small community. Despite the price for the room which seemed steep when compared to a Marriott or other such brands the team at the Anchor Inn made all the difference and I really did enjoy my stay there.

The bed - I'm not sure if it was the mattress or bed itself but it seemed like the mattress had collapsed on one side.
