Nicely restored, centuries old building, but with all the expected idiosyncrasies….sloping floors, low doorways and ceilings, narrow stairs, no lift. The restaurant was excellent, food delicious, varied menu. Breakfast options were good. The location in the village of Chiddingfold was perfect for us.

The property closes Sunday evening into Monday. Consequently, breakfast is not available on Monday morning. This is not disclosed until long after booking and just before arrival, despite the fact that the Booking.com confirmation states clearly that breakfast is included for a Sunday night stay into Monday. A disappointment and an inconvenience.

We loved the fact that the hotel is so old, dating back to the 15th century or even earlier in some parts. It has real character. The bar area by the inglenook fireplace was perfect for relaxing with a drink after a long drive. The quality of the food in the evening and at breakfast was superb: very well served and beautifully presented.

We booked one of the relatively less expensive, more modern, rooms which lacked the kind of character that was typical of the four poster type rooms as shown on the website. The lighting in our room was rather dull and during the night there was a persistent low drumming noise that disturbed our sleep. Apart from these issues the facilities were comfortable and well appointed.

This is a gorgeous Inn in a picturesque location. The building is unbelievable and fascinating. My room, though a single, was spacious and had everything I needed and a large bathroom. The bed was really comfy. The staff are lovely and obviously receive training. The food is out of this world and seasonal. Louise is fabulous. When I arrived on Wednesday she was on her own and and it was busy but nothing was too much trouble. Local use the bar and restaurant so there there is a lovely atmosphere. I will definitely be staying here again.

There was nothing I didn't like

Fantastic, historic inn opposite the church in a delightful village. Lovely 4 poster bed and clean/crisp linen. Generous accommodation including a separate toilet. A lot of character including sloping floors, period furniture, heavy curtains and comfortable chairs. Staff very welcoming, hospitable and helpful. Food excellent, generous well cooked breakfast. Parking free and plentiful outside the inn.

The road through the village was busy in the mornings and evenings and generated quite a lot of noise. The complimentary tea was excellent shame the coffee was only instant!

If you want a room with atmosphere, the town is for you: lovely panelling, 4 poster bed with excellent feather duvet; church bells from 7am, village green outside the window. Staff were friendly, welcoming and competent; the breakfast was generous and delicious; coffee was first class. Unusually the bathroom lighting was excellent - helpful when you’re struggling to see the mirror first thing in the morning!

Bedroom lighting was dim - we were fine, but hard to read in bed.

I had breakfast on both mornings which was excellent. I stayed for one supper. The food was superb and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I can't find fault with the Crown Inn. It had a lovely atmosphere, the bedrooms having been updated to a high standard but without compromising the olde worlde charm of the magnificent historical building with many of its original features still intact.

Easy to park nearby Room was comfortable and clean, plenty of opening windows Good shower, we did not have a bath.

Felt it was a restricted breakfast menu, most places offer fruit juice, cereal, toast and jam alongside cooked food, not as extras. Had to ask for more coffee, as only given one small cup. Would have liked a chair in the room, there was plenty of room for one, not everyone likes sitting on the bed. The furniture in the room was not fit for purpose, the chest of draws fell apart when tried to open the draws.

We stayed at the Crown Inn for our wedding night and returned in July for our 5 year anniversary. From start to finish the staff were very attentive and welcoming. One of the staff members even managed to secure us a mini fridge so we could put our beers and fizz in. We had a fantastic meal and drinks out on the patio which was so lovely. Overall a fantastic stay for our special occasion. I would highly recommend if you are nearby or looking to stay in the local area!

Staff went above and beyond during a busy Mother's Day weekend to ensure we had a comfortable stay in this wonderful historic building. The food and service was excellent, the bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep.

My only comment would be the steep stairs and having to climb into a deep hip bath might cause problems for people with accessibility issues.

Stayed at The Crown Inn for one night. It's very homely with tudor beams. The room was full of character and clean. The pub was lovely and friendly. Food good. The staff went out of their way to help us check in before our early wedding nearby. One of our party has booked to stay again already.

The whole Inn seems to be built on a slant so perhaps don't come if you have ambulatory problems.
