The Angel Inn, Petworth

The room was lovely....a delightful Inn. High standard of cleanliness and staff all efficient and friendly.

The shower floor in room one needs some attention.....the whole bathroom floor flooded after each shower. it would have been helpful to have been told about this problem and fora mop to have been provided. The continual breakfast had a very limited choice of fruit. the presentation of the dinners would have benefitted from the use of garnishes. We would have liked there to have been some comfortable arm chairs to relax in near the fires.

We were arranging a holiday for ourselves on the Isle of Wight, and we needed to find a hotel in which we could stay en route to the coast. When talking to friends who lived in Arundel, they recommended the hotel and particularly made us want to visit Petworth after finding out about Petworth House and the other galleries. They also told us that, considering the lovely weather and the good food at the hotel, the four of us would very much enjoy an open air dinner together - and we did.

Everything was good. The hotel and the car park on the opposite side of the road.

Good quality venue and the staff were very friendly and helpful, including breakfast with the room booking was a plus. The suite is as large as the advertisements say and the inclusion of free breakfast was nice. The facilities in the room are all modern and you get a huge bathroom. The hotel also does a decent Sunday lunch and are very accommodating.

Biggest grumble was Booking.com didn't offer free or limited cancellation (without having to pay in full) on the booking after making the reservation 3 weeks before travelling, this was the last room available at the time. Room was good quality but expensive for a solo traveller however when cheaper options at the same hotel presented themselves a week later I was unable to choose an alternative. Minor observation with the room itself is that it is also above the kitchens, so not recommended for light sleepers after 8am in them morning.

Very friendly staff. Comfortable room, though not “luxurious” as implied by some of the blurb. We didn’t have to pay extra for our dog which was good as many places charge quite a bit for no real reason.

We paid for a larger room as we had our dog with us but both the room and bathroom were still a bit cramped, though acceptable for a short stay.

The pub is very appealing on a wintry day with real fires and ancient wooden beams. Our room, though small, was well equipped and newly decorated. The shower room was spotless and modern. All the staff were warm and welcoming. The coffee and breakfasts were exceptional. It was good to read about the history of the pub in the booklet provided. Very comfy bed.

Our room was the nearest to the bar area, up a narrow staircase. We were also by a fire door which led to rooms down a small narrow corridor so we did hear passers-by. There was an adjoining door in the room so I wonder if this is used for families? If you have luggage, I would book a more expensive room, which was an option, to get a bit more space. But it was fine for one night.

Everything you want and imagine from a weekend stay in a country inn/pub. Well positioned, Friendly welcoming staff, that smell of a big open fire, beautifully presented and appropriately decorated rooms. Snug bed sheets, decent mattresses, good water pressure, small details and good country pub fare. The 2 cooked breakfasts with coffee and 2 dinners we had were great. Try the venison and roast dinners. A really great stay!

We thought the inside seating area towards the rear of the pub could be brought up to the same standard as the rest of the pub and rooms, and be made to be a bit cosier. And the tables were quite sticky due to the disinfectant currently used. But that is if we really had to knit pick.

Very comfortable rooms, with stylish, quality furniture and fabrics and a very nice, beautifully clean bathroom. Dogs are very welcome. In the morning, there was fresh milk ( including Soya) outside the door. The breakfast choices were excellent and the seating in the bar/ dining area was lovely, esp with the open fire going. The staff were incredibly helpful and the chef excellent!.

The parking is a bit tight, but we always got a space.( But to even have parking in the centre of town is amazing)

Great location for nearby attractions, ie. Petworth House (short walk) Pulborough Brooks (RSPB reserve), 10 mins. Staff were all friendly helpful and efficient. The food was very good including the cooked breakfasts and dinner menu if a little light on Veggie and vegan offers. The garden was spaceous and very nicely laid out. The inn itself is characterful reflecting its age but with all modern comforts.

Not enough veggie and vegan options. We don't eat meat so there were plenty of fish alternatives which were cooked beautifully but if you're true veggie or indeed vegan there were limited options. Strangely the green emergency exit light in our room was very bright at night.

Beautiful bedroom. Roomy with superb facilities. Lovely outside eating/bar area. Staff were absolutely superb. Food was generally good.

Ambience in the inside bar/restaurant area could be improved. No area for sitting and relaxing all taken by meal tables. Too brightly lit. These, though, are very minor issues.

We were even given a choice of room and opted for the one with a large bath . The Angel is an old building but has been renovated to a high standard with a modern twist .breakfast was probably the best I’ve ever had when staying in a hotel it was superb .Staff were lovely and happy to help .we would definitely return in the future.
