Very good place ! It's outside of the centre of Newcastle but it's a great peaceful and comfy place with a huge car park and a pub (but not noisy as the rooms are in a different area). Very quiet area, very close from the Tyne banks, ideal to have a stroll. A real gem ! Lovely welcome by the owners, great food at the pub. Loved everything !

The only little thing that could be improved is that toilet seats in room number 1. Please get it repaired.... it's not great to feel like you're going to fall down every time you use the toilets !

Location was excellent! We went to a rugby match so picked the location for that but it was ideal for going into Newcastle, for exploring castles, National Trust and English Heritage properties as well as plenty of parks and walks nearby. We only had breakfast one day as I don’t really like cooked breakfast and it was a waste to pay when I didn’t want to eat it. It was fine as we had tea & biscuits in our room and then went out. We did eat there in the evenings and it was ok. They were kind enough to do me salad with my lasagne instead of chips one night. I also had sea bass with new potatoes and curry with rice so it wasn’t chips with everything! The room was in a building in the grounds of the pub so not noisy. Cleaners were very good. Bedding and towels if good quality although to get excellent from me, it would have to be a bath sheet. Room was ok for size and there were 2 chairs. Shower was hot and powerful so full marks there. Plenty of tea & coffee and they would give us fresh milk when requested. Staff were mostly very friendly and obliging.

My only suggestion would be bath sheets and hair shampoo as well as shower gel.

I liked the relaxed vibe of the place and its countryside setting. I had an evening meal in the bar (a fish dish and delicious) and the staff and customers were very friendly. The bar service was brilliant and I enjoyed the beer which is brewed on the site. The room was in a separate block away from the pub so was quiet. It was huge, comfortable and clean.

The room was quite cold. I had wet clothes which I could not dry as the towel rail would not turn on. Although a spectacular space, the glass conservatory where I had my breakfast was very noisy due to lack of soft furnishing/sound absorbent surfaces.

I chose the location as I wanted a quiet break and complete relaxation, and I was not disappointed. I stayed in Room 9 at the Salmon Cottage. The room was a little dated and needs a bit of a refresh, but was spacious, warm and clean with bath and lovely power shower! I slept very well and as my room overlooked the garden at the back of the room, I got to watch birds, rabbits and squirrels bobbing about. So peaceful. The Keelman building itself is beautiful and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The Big Lamp Brewery looks impressive but it was off season so no tours available. I had a river walk every day and spent a day in Wylam. Off season so again, nothing much going on but everyone was friendly and helpful. The staff are very laid back and will do their best to accommodate your needs. There is a leisure centre just up the road if that's your thing, and loads of lovely walks.

There was nothing I didn't like as it served my purpose exactly. The food menu is basic I would say, but portions are plentiful and I had to order half portions on most things. The service can be a bit hit and miss but it didn't spoil my experience as the staff were so approachable and eager to help. Nice ales, beers and wines. I loved it and would definitely go back.

The Keelman is the perfect location when visiting my family locally. Accommodation is a little basic but comfortable, breakfast was delicious and lots of choice as we were a mixed group with dietary needs. Location is superb and beautiful surroundings. The river Tyne is literally on the door step with beautiful views and walks. There are facilities for small children with a playground on the premises but also a country park within walking distance.

Bathroom could have been a little cleaner, in particular the toilet brush.

I chose these lodgings as they're close to Albemarle Barracks and was meeting my son, I travelled down with my Brother and his partner . We all agreed on the accommodation . We had 2 rooms, each was large , spacious and clean with very comfy beds and real windows that open, which to me is always a plus . Plenty tea/ coffee on the tray . It's in a nice area with good parking , however Its a bit out the way so you definitely need transport . Great if you don't want to be in the City and want somewhere relaxing to go walking /cycling or just to be closer to Nature . Superb staff who were all very helpful and Welcoming . Food was good , portion sizes are more than adequate . The Embers Ale made in the brewery is Outstanding and I highly recommend trying it ! This is what I class as good honest and homely , if you want fancy bells n whistles and pretentious accommodation this is not for you. I shall definitely go back in the Spring/Summer as I think the surroundings will look beautiful . A big Thank You to all the Staff for everything .

The location is a little further out if you are travelling to be in the city centre, however it was lovely waking in the morning withpeace and quiet before heading in to the centre. It’s about 15 minutes away and costs around £20 for a taxi although we didn’t use, there is also a bus. The staff made us feel welcome from the start. The breakfast was also good. We were a group of 13 and they looked after each of us. They make you feel like you’ve known them for years. Helen was just the nicest and most helpful lady, she is a credit to the Keelman.

If I had to be picky, maybe a little dated but for us as a group it didn’t matter, it was clean and tidy.

Beautiful setting and very peaceful. Staff very welcoming and friendly right from my call to say I was a little delayed and wanted to book a table for meal. The room in the cottage was a good size, very clean and had all I needed. I had to leave early so wasn’t able to have breakfast but I’m sure it would have been as good as my evening meal. The glass extension overlooking the beer garden and surrounding trees was great. Will definitely stay again and have recommended to others.

Nothing!

Very pleased with the experience. When I arrived I was a little confused that the bar was the reception desk. But I received pleasant help from a young employee, who followed me all the way to the room. There was a good atmosphere, and the room itself was in a building approx. 50 m from the bar area.

Not much to complain about. Maybe the reception shouldn't have been in the bar? It must be said that I was very tired, because I was on my last day on Hadrian's Brick.

Good location for the countryside outside Newcastle and into Northumberland. The pub is very friendly and quite busy even in the winter when we visited. Great beer for any ale lover, as you would expect from a Brewery Tap. Food was simple pub fayre of great quality and home cooked. Expect it to be busy in good weather. The pub was not open late when we were there. Room was clean and pleasant with everything we needed including tea and coffee making facilities.
