Alma Lodge Hotel

For the price I wasn’t expecting much but needed somewhere to sleep before our early flight. The hotel was lovely and far exceeded my expectations, the rooms were clean and the beds comfy. The staff were lovely and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The bathroom could do with a bit of modernising but for the price it was fine. The hotel is decor is dated but this makes it seem cosy and homely rather than modern and cold. Would definitely stay again when flying from Manchester

No lift in the hotel so bad to carry our suitcase up 2 flights of stairs. The staff did offer to take them up for us but I managed this although it’s not idea for disabled customers who cannot use the stairs

Having lived nearby on Mile End Lane til my 30s (many years ago!) and knowing the hotel for many years, I'd never actually been inside! I wouldn't say it was the most plush or upmarket hotel in the world but it was pleasant and good enough. The staff were sooo friendly and one of them went way beyond expectations. We didn't get his name but as there was a function on in the hotel, the dining room wasn't available. They offered to let us eat in the bar but the kids from the function were running around like giddy kippers, so they realised that wouldn't work. In comes superhero! The big front dining room, laid out for an upcoming conference, and a table in there was offered to us. The table was laid and we were left to ourselves, allowing us to catch up with my sister in peace. The food was great, service amazing, meal price was reasonable. I can't praise the staff enough. Thank you 😇

The room was really spacious, the beds were really comfortable and each single bed had 2 pillows. There were plenty of tea bags and coffee and sugar sachets in the room. There was an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and a fan in the room as well as spare towels in the wardrobe. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast had a well stocked and varied selection of food. The bar stayed open until 1am and they didn't mind that we were still up drinking at 3am. I would stay again.

Our room had a leak so we were moved to a room without a double bed and one of the children had to sleep on a camping bed but we were not offered a discount for the inconvenience.

The carpeting and decorations were in very good condition and not at all shabby. Although this seemed to be a busy 'working people's' hotel it was very clean and tidy and 'punched above it's weight' in quality and friendship of the staff. The breakfast table was quite extensive and worked as a self service cafeteria. The breakfast lady was very friendly and helpful.

Just a few too many stairs for an octogenarian! I was a little disappointed that my room was on the second floor and there were no lifts, but the venue for my event was in the function rooms of the hotel itself so it was quite convenient despite 28 stairs. As my colleague and I are retired we did not breakfast until almost close of play, but unfortunately the choice was not so good then and some of the hot food was not very hot! We were, however, at the very end of the breakfast period!

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The room was just the right temperature for me and there was a good supply of products for tea and coffee making.

The television remote in the room did not work properly but i managed with it. Also the breakfast could have been hotter, although I think it was good quality produce and there was a good choice of things to have for breakfast. I went down on the first day of my stay quite late for breakfast so went down just after breakfast had started the second day thinking that the food would be hotter but it was the same, it was a shame,

Overall stay was very good. We were greeted with a warm welcome at check in. The room was more than enough for what we needed (sleep and toilet really). Bed was overall comfy and didn't get too warm at night. Usual amenities such as a TV, WiFi and kettle with a selection of tea and coffee. Decent breakfast selection too, enough to fill you up for the day.

A couple of downsides to staying was the pillow are far too soft and are thin - maybe that's a preference. If you like soft pillows they'll be great but, if you're like me and prefer a firmer pillow, you'll struggle to get comfy. I did like the variety at breakfast but the only downside was there didn't seem enough of everything to go around meaning you'd be forced to sit and wait on a food item being topped up before you can eat. Certainly wasn't enough orange or apple juice to go around.

Friendly staff who were willing to help. The room was not the biggest I've been (at the same price or even lesser in similar location). Bed was small (to put that in context, I'm less than 66kg and around 162cm in height🤣🤣) compared to others I've been but they were comfortable. Breakfast was a nice Buffet with all items of a full English breakfast present. I nearly started a fire (from a burning bread🫣🫣) however the lad who attended when I beckoned handled it all very calmly. Overall, I enjoyed the stay. Will be booking if and when needed👍

The room and bed could do with a little more upsizing

The staff were welcoming and friendly, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast(once available) was delicious. The location was perfect for what we needed, around 30mins into central Manchester. Loved the fact that it had onsite parking included.

The rooms were a little dated, although clean. The ceiling and walls were peeling away in some areas. On the first morning we had to wait about 15mins for the breakfast to be restocked, however once it was it was yummy. We were informed that one night of our stay it maybe slightly noisy because of Christmas parties, however it was actually both nights and it was a little trickier to fall asleep.

Diverse atmosphere, perfect for a solo traveller to chat with random guests. Amazing young lady at the reception, informed me about a delightful concert next door in an art museum which was such a refreshment! Polish band. There is a fish&chips 5 min walk takeaway place; cheap and tasty! They make it for you on the spot! Great location. Amazing lounge area.

Bed was quite narrow and no shelf, I slept on a top bunk bed and did not feel quite safe if I fell from that hight with no surrounding safe support, something to consider improving :-)

We stay here a lot because my elderly mother in law lives close by. It is a solid choice and very good value when booked a little in advance. We often arrive in the evening after a long drive or long day visiting but have always found it easy to park the car and get checked in.

It is not a luxury hotel, it needs some TLC and update. This time around though the friendliness of the staff was variable - young man at breakfast was excellent and one of the receptionists also excellent. When breakfast is cooked on demand it is very good - on this occasion it was a buffet on a Thursday morning (busier?) and a cooked to order on Friday. Since the installation of a coffee machine breakfast is less friendly overall one day no-one greeted us - I guess less important when there is no need for table service but I think it misses something.
