The location directly opposite Tewkesbury Abbey was what sold it to me. It is at the south end of the main historic streets, -so a few minutes walk from everything that I wanted to see. Additionally, Tewkesbury is a short car trip from Gloucester, Cirencester and Cheltenham and a far more atmospheric place to stay. The Bell has a large restaurant area (we ate there on the Saturday evening ) and it is only a few minutes walk from a good selection of other eateries (Italian, Indian , Chinese, Thai etc.) Very glad that we had opted for breakfast - well worth the money and with a great selection including smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Very friendly staff. Although sited near the river, The Bell is on the higher ground and was totally unaffected by the high water that had submerged nearby Victoria Gardens Would we stay there again? Most definitely !

Would have liked two chairs in the room rather than a single stool - but this is an old building with some necessary compromises on space/layout and the en-suite was generously sized. Because this is a pub with accommodation - rather than a hotel with 24 hour staffing - the public areas are locked up after about 11:30pm - a slight disappointment if you like somewhere quiet to read when your other half is watching TV in the bedroom.

firstly the parking is excellent. Right next to the hotel and lots of space available. The staff were all really friendly. The breakfast was really nice and nothing was any trouble. I only ate once in the evening but the food was good. The location was ideal for going to Cheltenham races since it was a 15min drive to the track down country roads most of the way. If you want to eat out in the evening then there seems to be every type of restaurant within walking distance. If you want to watch anything on Sky or BT then I would recommend going to the Anchor on the HIgh street - watch out though since it does not serve food, but they do let you bring your own food in and there is a domino's over the road.

That I had to go out to watch Sky and BT...minor problem though

Excellent staff, very helpful and friendly. Greeted everyone with smiles and seemed to really enjoy their work, couldn't fault them! Both Evening meals and Breakfasts were superb. Have stayed here a couple of times before but many years ago before I became seriously ill. Glad to be back! (also nice to see Dogs accepted in the bar)

The old hotel car park now seems to be a public parking area so there were no spaces available when we arrived. We did get in eventually and were given parking permits but I think there should be allocated spaces for the hotel.

The hotel is directly opposite Tewkesbury Abbey and at the top end of the high street so pretty much everything in the town can be accessed by foot, including several excellent restaurants and bars. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. The bar has a good selection of beers and has a good atmosphere with a terrace outside. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was more than acceptable. Good value for money.

The shower - in the bath, was very slippery. It would have been good to have a non-slip mat available. Otherwise all good.

Breakfast was amazing. We hadn't booked breakfast with the room as we thought we might eat elsewhere, but we're very glad that we ate at the Bell. Delicious produce and great value for money. We ate there in the evening too - also lovely food, great value for money. Loved the age and character of the building.

As is often the case in a hotel of this age some aspects of the accommodation were looking a bit tired and faded, but still was spotlessly clean and all in working order so I have no problem with this. They could spend a fortune and bring this wonderful historic building to life, but the result would be that the rooms would be out of our price range and we wouldn't have had the chance to stay in such wonderful surroundings. The pub/restaurant area are all immaculate and showcase the character of the building.

Being just across the road, the hotel was perfectly located for a visit to Tewksbury Abbey and it was also a convenient base from where to visit the wider Cotswold area. Guest parking was a bonus for this.

Being part of a brewery hotel chain, the service is only as good as its management. For an overseas visitor, it presented as just an ordinary country pub - suggesting but unfortunately delivering little by way of atmosphere. The 'pub food', as might be expected was OK, but hardly outstanding, with no great alternatives in the surrounding town other than Chinese/Indian.

Love this old building, perfectly located for our event and directly oposite the beautiful Abbey. Loved hearing the Abbey bells chiming. Staff were very pleasant and helpfull. Breakfast was good and pretty quick. Room was perfectly comfortable with comfty beds. Parking was convenient. Already booked to stay again next year

We couldn't turn off the radiator in the bathroom and it was like a sauna... and the shower was pretty fierce! Three choices of breakfast cereal but frosties instead of corn flakes, should have a sugar free option please. The bedside lights could only be operated by one side. we had twin beds so it meant I had to get up and go to the other side to turn the light off once my friend had gone to sleep. The full length mirror would have been better on the outside of the wardrobe door as it was a bit awkward possitionwise with the door open.

We had a lovely welcome on arrival and given some very useful information about the local area. The breakfast was cooked lovely and the waitress couldn't have been more helpful. The location was great and plenty of parking was available.

Due to a limited diet restriction there wasn't much choice available as a desert in the restaurant, the only item suitable was not available. However, we ate there the next evening and they had made sure the required desert was back on the menu! Our room was on the ground floor and overlooked an outside eating / smoking area. So a few people were out there at times.

fantastic listed building in an amazing location over the road from Tewkesbury Abbey and alongside the Severn Hams. The food in the restaurant was very very good (plus not had chicken in a basket for many years) and the breakfast was superb. Staff in the restaurant were great. Yazz who served breakfast is a lovely character who made you feel really at home. Me and the wife are still wondering if Henry, the mysterious absent dog, actually made an appearance.

Our room was in the main hotel building and the stairs were a little difficult to manoeuvre. It is, however, a listed 16th century building, therefore, is unavoidable. We will know to ask for an annex room next time we stay.
