Leucadia Beach Inn

A clean and comfortable room with comfortable beds, free wi-fi access and a kitchenette in a convenient location next to CA highway 1 on well drained property for spending a night of a rarely experienced quantity of heavy rain from the once in a lifetime hurricane/tropical storm for the area named Hilary. The room was not an ADA accessible room as requested, but it was built and furnished to meet our needs so we requested it due to its more convenient location during a storm.

The lack of a telephone in the room to speak to friends in the area and explain why it was not practical to meet as planned due to the heavy rains from Hurricane/Tropical Storm "Hilary." We did not have a phone or an email address to communicate with these friends.

The room was as stated, and very clean. If you like a place with character, this is for you. The price was right, and it's close to to the beach, restaurants, shops, etc. The bed was really comfy. I cooked breakfast most days, so the one working burner was handy. The kitchen is supplied with very basic supplies, but in good condition, and manageable. The staff was helpful and nice, and the maids were cute, bustling about, even sweeping the parking lot to keep everything ship shape. Just a hint, the floors are tile, so bring slippers

All the linens had WAY too much smelly stuff on them. I am assuming fabric softener. I had to remove the bed quilts and hide them in a corner. The towels had so much they barely absorbed water, but the sheets were OK. I had to air out the room the first day, it smelled so strong. This stuff is toxic, people! I read reviews about the bathroom. It has a nice tub/shower but there is really no place to put your cosmetics and toothbrush. Mostly it's just the old style, and the tub/shower was worth it, and it had a wand, which I love. The kitchen had good condition basic pans, glassware, plates and silverware, but no salt, pepper, oil or even paper towels. I ended up having to buy all these things and gave to a friend when I left. At least paper towels and S& P would have been nice.

Very clean. The owner, Matt, was very personable and full of suggestions if you needed them. The decor is very throw-back but cute. Excellent location in Leucadia, within easy walking distance to restaurants and the Beacon Beach overlook for sunset.

The units are very small which is what I expected, but if you're staying for longer than a night or two, you might get frustrated with the lack of space. The noise can be loud from the other rooms and the highway, but was mitigated by using the air conditioner.

I love this gem. I've stayed repeatedly and it's pretty much become a staple in my travels.

I recently got a puppy. Her stomach was upset and she made a mess on the bedding, which I stripped off myself and left for the cleaning crew. But it was mentioned, to MY GUEST traveling with me, the following night, in a snarky manner. I felt it embarrassing and unprofessional. I felt awful about it to begin with, and being a pet friendly lodging, I'm sure that wasn't the first (or last) time the staff would run into something similar. Sorry guys, the mess wasn't intentional!

Even though the rooms are close to Highway 101, the traffic was never disruptive and the trains stop running at night. It was more peaceful there than expected and all hotel guests were extremely well behaved. It was like visiting a small town.

They can't control the train schedule but if it could start a little later that would be great. If there was any beach gear like chairs or mats for guests to borrow we would definitely have used them.

CUTE place! Excellent beds, pillows & bedding. Nice to have the little kitchen. Great parking close to lot's of places for shopping or dining. Excellent value. Perfect beach motel.

Bathroom is small, a little challenging doing hair & makeup in there, but there's other mirrors. Needs some shower hooks on door, paper towels and a dish drainer for over the sink. But this is just being picky. The beds, size of room FAR make up for the small things. We had a double queen room. I had read other reviews and brought earplugs, but I always travel with them. There is a Train VERY close by but the last one is like a midnight. And they don't go by that often anyway. I'm a city dweller so I'm used to cars and such going by at night. I sleep right through it.

Like all over the States, if you’re not staying in the city, you need a car to get around, BUT The Leucadia Beach Inn has very easy access to a great little mom/pop grocery store, yummy restaurants and the beach (15 min walk to public access.)So if you’re up for very clean, ‘old school’ accommodation (circa 1920) to chill in place, it’s great.

The train zooms by on week days, but it was easy to drift back to sleep. A hair dryer would be a good addition.

The kitchenette was excellent with electric stoves , cutlery, crockery, fridge, microwave, toaster etc. Room was tastefully done. Charming location with eateries. Grocery store is there next door but seems to close very early - we went at 8pm but it was shut. The Manager Todd was extremely responsive and kind in trying to accommodate our request. We enjoyed our walk to the nearest beach (not a sandy regular beach) which took about 15 minutes through streets of houses and their lovely gardens.

Hotel was perfect for what we were looking for. It was not super fancy or anything, but we appreciated the tile flooring as we felt it was cleaner the the normal hotel carpets.

Some of the other patrons would take up two parking spots making it harder to find parking late at night. Other than that no complaints :)

Cosy little place for a couple. just enough room for a day or two stay. will probabally come back, if we are ever in the area again.

The bathroom was super-SMALL. could hardly sit on the toilet with out knocking my knees on the wall, Shower not much bigger. and NO place to put the soap or a razor blade, so had to do most of those chore in the kitchenette.
