Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Arcata/Eureka-Airport Area, an IHG Hotel

This hotel is our go to hotel in the McKinleyville CA area. It's consistent for service, staff professionalism, room amenities and location. Breakfast has a lot of options and there are plenty of luggage carts for us folks who carry too much stuff. We checked in on Christmas day and the staff was very friendly and helpful on a day when that behavior can be hard to find.

No real comments except the now ubiquitous problem in hotels about finding and retaining people who clean the rooms. Blame covid for the decline and not the staff.

The staff were truly excellent and very helpful. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, fresh, well stocked and served in a very clean environment. The laundry facilities were excellent. Abundant parking with no issues.

This was only a one night stop over, we had some difficulty in finding a restaurant nearby for dinner and perhaps should have asked. The Arcata/Eureka area seemed to have a lot of homeless people when we went out to find a restaurant. The Hotel, however, is located to serve the airport and is in a much better area with no issues at all.

it was comfortable and relatively quiet. the food at breakfast was a step up from typical hotels. the room was VERY clean upon arrival and the bed was very sizeable and comfortable to sleep on. The curtains did great to block out all traces of light so my sleep was not disturbed (I am a light sleeper). the style of cedecoration in the lobby/entry was welcoming and family-oriented. It made me feel at ease since it wasn't small and abrupt.

Excellent staff with a quick and very efficient check-in process. Room was great, very clean and well-appointed with plugs, desk space and seating. Very comfortable king bed. Breakfast has a lot of variety with something for everybody's tastes.

Hot tub in this king-bed room was essentially a large bathtub with jets. Could use more jets, but that's a very minor issue. Room could also use a light fixture over the sink and coffee service area. Entry hall light works, but not enough light for close work at the sink or counter.

Well maintained facility with a comfortable bed. The lobby was always pristine. They had around a dozen brochures on what to do in the area, hikes, beach, wine tasting etc. The front desk accommodated our 9 hour late arrival.

We could not figure out how to raise the shade in our room. There was remote control that did not do anything possible for the shade. There is a light over the bed frame which took a while to figure out how to turn it off. It is a red switch that says reset.

Conveniently located next to the Arcata airport, this made traveling in and out very easy, especially since they offer the airport shuttle. It’s about a 30-mile drive to the Redwood National Park entrance. Additionally, the Hammond Trail is within walking or biking distance (they offer bike rentals) and offers a beautiful costal walk with the opportunity to see marine animals! The complimentary breakfast and 24-hr coffee and hot cocoa was greatly appreciated, and the staff went above and beyond. Would highly recommend if you are visiting the area.

If you are a light sleeper, the walls are thin and noise travels, especially from the hallways. Otherwise, no major concerns or complaints.

The room was very large and designed in the business style. There is breakfast included though the options are limited. There was no fresh fruit other than bananas. The location is 20 min drive from Eureka. I did get a text from the front desk after checking in, asking if they can do anything to help. Overall value is not as great as the Oregon hotels during this trip. But of course, this is California.

The facility is quite old and needs a renovation soon. The bath gel was not refilled by the cleaning person.

The location to the hiking trails and other sites are easily accessible from this HIE. The groves of Redwoods are spread out so expect driving 40-60 min from this HIE to do what you want. I was grateful I chose to stay at this location and even though it is “next to” an airport, my 3 night stay was peaceful. There are plenty of eating options in McKinleyville or nearby Trinidad.

Because of my room location, I entered and exited from the back of the hotel. The exterior entrance could use a power washing and the glass on the doors cleaned periodically; however, neither is a deal breaker.

Rooms were spacious and clean. They seemed to be well insulated from surrounding rooms.

Not much around the hotel except the airport. Had to go out for most meals. Breakfast was just okay. Nothing special. Hotel ran out of coffee creamer for 2 days. Couldn't the staff have run down to Safeway to buy some until their shipment arrived?

Breakfast was wonderful. The location is great.

The yard work and the area all around the Hotel needs TLC.It’s overgrown and has lots of weeds.Needs new/fresh wood chips.The back parking lot has pine needles, needs sweeping. Hotel gutters weeds are growing out.
