Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town

I loved the location!!! It was a beautiful setting. Easy to get to from the airport. I loved sitting on the balcony and walking the grounds. It fit so well in Old Town that the whole vibe really mellowed me out! I loved being able to stroll up and down the street in the morning and evening. The location is also perfect! I was a 10-15 drive from everything I wanted to see. Beaches, LaJolla Cove, Balboa Park— even the church I was visiting! I put very few miles on the rental! A serious plus! And I had plenty of opportunity to park comfortably on Juan street.

The only downside was that my room was by a service entrance and I could sometimes hear banging and voices. But that’s a SMALL issue. The staff was really nice and polite all the way around!

The hotel layout is uniquely multi-layered. The room was spacious and clean and the ambiance was perfect.

The hotel is great. Just don't use their restaurant. The bar on the top floor is not worth the money. 5 other people in there already with a drink and the bartender, who was right in front of us, looked right through us when we sat, just kept wiping glasses and unloaded the dishwasher before he even decided to think about asking us what we'd like. And Don't order the wings. I've ordered wings everywhere I've gone for 30 years. . Their wings were plain, not seasoned, deep fried to hard chewy nothingness. Couldn't even eat them. Their chips/salsa...the chips were cold cheap chips out of a cheap bag.

I was impressed at the decor: all the essentials (microwave, refer, coffee maker), table for 2, a very comfortable queen size bed, and not last or the least was a beautiful full size bathroom with an elegantly fully tiled, wall to wall shower.

Key cards were not working. Had to wait outside in the dark until staff could come to the unit to let me in. They knew cards weren't working well (they had a notice posted at the check-in counter). Rather than having me go to the unit at night and then wait until staff could come and get me in, they should have had someone escort me and make sure that I could get in my unit right away. Didn't like paying for parking....wasn't indicated on Booking.com. Website only said parking was available. It's connected to the property but they make it available to the public. But since they restrict guest parking to a particular garage level, I think parking should be included in the hotel fee like many other hotels.

This hotel lives up to its charm that is presented in the pictures. Its views are pretty cool. Very beautiful grounds and great hotel staff. The property is nestled in old town San Diego, which is definitely a convenient tourist destination within a few hundred feet away. I’d say the rooms need to be updated a little bit as they are quite old, yet the beds are quite comfortable. I felt like I was somewhere in Europe in the 1950s.

The bathtub had a slow drain which made things a little messy. I believe the windows were bolted shut. I want to get some fresh air.

This hotel is the most beautiful hotel I’ve stayed in. Down to the interior of the lobby and the outside Hacienda looking scenery. The grounds are very clean and beautifully Kept . The location was perfect. Only took a minute to get down to old town. The staff was amazing and they offer a wonderful restaurant on site.  The view from our room was beautiful. We had the city and the pool  to look at from our balcony.  Wish we would’ve booked for more days. We will be returning as my family had a wonderful time.

A lot of stairs, but well worth it

We love that it is located right in Old Town. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The stairs are a good workout after a nice meal down in Old Town. We love this hotel and will snag a stay when the prices are great. We always have a great experience. We were grateful for our upgraded room. It was a perfect gift for my husband's birthday.

As silly as it sounds, but not surprised with hotels, the pillows were not comfortable. It felt like we were sleeping on large, hard cotton balls. We managed and still slept. If you're a pillow snob, then bring your own from home.

Staying in Old Town was a great choice. Even though I had rented a car in L.A., I opted to use the Old Town Trolley for 2 of the days as there is so much to see & parking is difficult & rarely free. The trolley stop was only 2 blocks away. The Spanish motif of the Hacienda was lovely. The restaurant was very good. The staff was very friendly & helpful.

Wi-fi was very slow making it difficult to review & post photos. I only turned the tv on briefly a couple of times & the signal was poor with lots of pixilation. They should change providers. I wasn’t in San Diego to watch tv so it wasn’t a big deal for me.

The customer service was good the tequila factory was great

Need to upgrade the fan they squeaking couldn't sleep the bed squeaking too hard have back surgery update the bathroom and the furniture

The most beautiful hotel and views! Loved the Hacienda & Plaza vibes. The architecture blew me away! I was in absolute love with this hotel, and the convenience of being in downtown and being able to walk from our room straight down a beautiful stairway path into downtown was perfect! Also, loved that you need your room key to get back into the gate so not just anyone could walk in. We will definitely be staying here again! The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful.

That we had to come back home!

First off we're in our fifties and have knee issues, so this is from a middle-age point of view. Friendly staff.. You couldn't ask for a better location. Super close to Old Town area and shops and restaurants. Trying to navigate the hotel grounds was a little tricky at first, but after some exploring, was really easy. Very clean room and grounds. On site restaurant is convenient for breakfast buffet which is just eggs, sausage and bacon , toast and pancakes, some cereals, yogurt and fruit, and coffee and tea and juice. You do have to pay per person, about 12 or 13 dollars each. We ate at Fred's Mexican food the first night and loved the fajitas. Second night was Coyote Cafe for the El Rey combo. Wow! Great food! Funny, we only had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. A nice walk down the street to the old park to burn off dinner was perfect. Cute little shops and old buildings. Bring flashlights since it gets pretty dark, and just makes the walk safer and more fun. Sea World is only 10 minutes away. Oh yeah, the toilet was not a super low height. Nice.

Our only negative isn't really a negative. The hotel sits up above the rest of the area so again, its a very short uphill walk back to the hotel. The rooms were plain. Parking garage is dark. Have to pay for garage parking which is between 15 to 30 dollars a day.
