Hotel Coral Reef

We had a great stay at Coral Reef with a very warm welcoming with an homemade banana bread. The hotel is very well located in Kappa town, walking distance from all shops and restaurants. The beach view from our room was a delight, we had couple of happy hours and breakfasts from the room terrace to enjoy it.

Nevertheless, the rooms are oldish with a lack of light (we were at ground floor). They would need a small maintenance refresh and it would be nice to include basic tableware to the rooms.

We stayed 4 nights in the king suite and the ocean view was amazing to wake up to each day. It was a corner unit and the balcony extended from the living room to the bedroom (only accessible from the living room, though). Be willing to pay the extra bucks and request an ocean front upgraded room, 3rd floor and you will not be disappointed. You can't really swim due to coral reef, but if you want ocean front in Kauai, this is a fine property. There are plenty of beaches very close by that you can walk, drive or use one of the hotels bikes. We drove around the whole island and found very nice beaches each day, and this hotel was a perfect way to relax at the beginning and end of our days while in Kauai. Close to airport, too.

What's not to like about being oceanfront in a fully appointed suite in Hawaii?! The rest is just details and is individual as to what people spend their energy on to complain about. Just sort through any negative comments and plan accordingly. This is an amazing value if you aren't into paying the resort fees at name brands and don't mind if everything isn't "perfect."

Location actually was better than expected unless you wanted and paid a lot extra for a beachside room. The location was in the middle of Waikike and the eateries etc. The property was more like the older days when you had all the rooms surrounding the pool. It was not oversize in that its only 3 stories high. The rooms appear to have been fully renovated quite recently. 100m walk to "TheBUS" stop. Inlcuded microwave. Had local evening entertainment during the week.

No lift but not really a biggie, as it was only 3 stories high. Was unsure how clean the pool was, but that may have been beacuse it was a Salt water style pool.

Coral Reef Hotel is not a resort type of place to stay... but more of a local style hotel. The room was ve4y clean and beautiful... and the staff was exceptional! We booked an Ocean Front room, which exceeded my expectations on how everything would be! We were literally a few yards away from the beach! The bed was nice and comfortable. The air conditioning was so good (especially on a hot day in Kauai). There is a pool that we didn't utilize. Parking lot is small but we never had a problem finding a stall. There was an ice machine near our room, which was great because I was able to fill my hydroflask pretty often. We were told we could borrow bicycles, coolers, pool towels, etc, from the front desk, but we didn't utilize any of it either.

My only problem (not so much a complaint) was, because my husband is disabled, he had a difficult time getting into the bathtub. He wasn't able to lift his leg, getting in and out. I had to help him... he actually fell and hit his head when trying to get out, but he's okay. Other than that, no other complaints!

There appeared to be a homeless man living across the path in a tent...unsettling. I know he was not on your property. Can he get help?

Loved the location, good access to both the north and south of the island. Close to shops and lots of choices for lunch and dinner options. Comfortable bed, spacious room, lovely balcony overlooking the beach, nice pool area, good WiFi. Friendly helpful staff.

The room was set up with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and a sink. It would have been nice to have just a little crockery and cutlery for the times we ate meals in the room. perhaps a kettle would be easier than boiling water in the microwave. Just a minor comment really, as we loved the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Excellent location. Right on a small beach area and next to a lengthy bike path. Free bikes were provided. The property is located on the eastern shore and provided a good center point for heading north or south. The small town of Kapaa had two grocery stores and several restaurants and food trucks. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The rooms could use some TLC. Our room carpet had a lot of stains and the walls could have used some paint.

Loved the contactless checkin! Made it so useful to arrive late without having to talk to anyone or arrange anything. Checkout was seamless. Just entered our room with the code provided. Also there is a resident kitty who was very friendly and the room was honestly very clean and comfortable for the price. Rooms come with fridge, microwave, and anything else you need. The AC and fan works well. The pathway behind the hotel along the beach is fantastic.

This was the last room available so we got one right off the road, which meant traffic noises in the morning were loud but it was checkout time anyway. The shower grout was discoloured and could have been a lot cleaner but overall it wasn't worth complaining about.
