First of all trying to drive in during a blizzard as far as I know. CERTAINLY dangerous road conditions. THe operator ( whom answered my call ) was not only entertaining the idea we may need to cancel against policy... he seemed concerned for our safety. It never came down to "we cant make it in"I felt relieved that they appeared to be willing to work with us if that had been the case. BUT MORE TO HIS CREDIT... he called later to see how we were doing and gave us a weather report as he knew it to be. I honestly just wanted to cancel when I made the call but to engage in that rare hospitality, I felt like this might be worth the trip. And it was. The building was as historic (while still being comfortable )as you can get. Every time Id question something's antiquity, Id prove myself wrong. BUT to top it off the little unexpected touches... I woke up first morning disappointed there was no coffee maker in room. I opened door to see in the hall an entire coffee cart. MUCH better than the one cup, bottom of quality makers often offered. Included was an option of foam or classic turn of century style cups. Also .... despite the lack of in room refrigerator, at end of the hall there is a wine cooler full of sodas and water for guests. Those little touches tell you management MUST be involved in the operation. FINALLY and most telling.( OWNERS READ THIS ) We stopped to bother the housekeeper about hotel info day two or three. She had a long and interesting history there ( Ill let her tell you all the story when you decide to visit) But beyond the clear connection she has with the place and work ethic that you cant help but see... She spoke highly of the ( I assume) owners! How often do you find employees with anything but complaints about the job and/ or who they do it for? A GEM she is.

COLD and walking that short block to strip was painful. I wish there was a way they didnt have to lock the door closest to the gold dust. I get it. OHHH and this is a like not a dislike but I have no room in likes. They allow you to have real beer ECT while gambling in Casino. ITS hit and miss in Deadwood. Many just offer BUD Light and Coors but they dont.

This hotel has been beautifully restored with lovely antiques, beautiful colors and tasteful decor throughout. The rooms are on the floor above the small casino below, so it is quiet and restful. There is a delightful cafe adjacent to the casino on the ground floor, offering wonderful breakfasts served by cheerful, friendly staff.

Our stay was perfect...I can't think of a single thing that was lacking. Blake and Melanie are wonderful hosts, always willing to help in any way. My husband was riding the Mickelson Trail and needed a place to keep his bike where it would be safe. They accommodated his need cheerfully, providing a safe storage place. They are very knowledgeable about the area's history and willing to chat about what they know. A perfect stay.

The room was very historical. It was like stepping back in time! Beautiful atmosphere, and it was close enough to walk everywhere.

There was one staff member who was incredibly irritable. She gave off the appearance that helping or answering questions was the last thing she wanted to do. Made me feel like an inconvenience. The breakfast in the attached diner was also very cheap in experience but not in price. Paper cups and plates. It became busy very quickly, and I noticed that as soon as we left our table, the waitress showed another couple to it right away... without wiping it or cleaning it.

The Martin & Mason Hotel is a beautifully restored historic structure with period correct furnishings, located a short walking distance from Deadwood's busy main street. We were checked in by the owner of the hotel and he personally showed us our parking spot and escorted us to our room. He enjoys sharing information regarding the history of the building and the intensive preservation efforts that were required to rescue this amazing structure. Our stay was extremely comfortable and included fine linens and towels, as well as a large bed and pillows that were amazing! Being a historic hotel that has retained it's authenticity, be aware that not all rooms include a standing shower option. Our room had a lovely claw foot tub with a hand held shower head. It was within the bedroom area and had a folding screen that could be positioned for privacy, if needed. During booking, I had noticed reviews that complained about the tub only room. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in our comfortable tub with plenty of hot water and bath salts included! If you appreciate Deadwoods history and would like to experience a "step back in time" at a reasonable price, the Martin & Mason Hotel will exceed your expectations.

The location was perfect for staying in Deadwood. We were able to walk to the many other casinos and restaurants which made it very convenient. The room had a surprise - no shower - just a tub - but it was a pleasant surprise. (When you make a reservation, double-check to ensure you have a shower if you need one. There are a few rooms that have tub only - which was fine for our stay.) The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We were in Room 3 - King Size Bed, small corner sink, and relaxing old-time-tub! The staff was amazing - always very friendly - from the front desk to the casino attendants to the wait staff. Melanie (our host) exceeded our expectations with her kindness, professionalism, smile, and hospitality. We will definitely stay here again - the perfect location for staying in Deadwood!

Everything else! The history of this hotel has been very well preserved. I loved all the details that made it period specific. Bonus, we get electricity today! I thought the old world charm was perfect. It was exactly what we hoped for in Deadwood. Who wants to stay in this history rich city in an ultra modern hotel? Not me! I can't wait till we can return again.

I wish there had been more hot coffee available. It is in the hallway on the floor, which was perfectly fine with us. We just didn't have enough of it to enjoy.

This charming hotel was very conveniently located and we were welcomed graciously during our entire stay. The spotless room was comfy with extra special touches like super soft sheets, the best bathtub ever, fresh flowers and gourmet chocolates. I had a delicious old fashioned in the bar with a rose shaped ice cube in the glass and house made bitters that was truly extra special. The common areas were a cozy and the other guests I met were interesting and sociable which made for a comfortably friendly, neighborly atmosphere. Bill was a perfect host who went out of his way to make sure we were well cared for. I will definitely stay again.

They didn’t serve breakfast in bed? 😂

The location was extremely convenient. We walked to everything. The room was filled with antiques, very authentic. It was very quiet. The bathroom was quite large. Lots of toiletries were provided. A fridge in the hallway had bottled water and soft drinks. In the morning, there was coffee outside our room. Our room was ready early for us.

I think that a grab bar by the bathtub would be helpful.

It id true to the 1800’s decor - complete with the claw foot bathtub in the room with an antique privacy divider. The bed is SUPER comfortable, one of the best I’ve slept in. The owners and staff are more than helpful in making sure I have all I need. The location is excellent - just a short block off of historic Main Street and next to the Adam’s Museum.

This didn’t bother me because I chose this hotel for the history, but guests should be aware there is a hand shower with the claw foot tub, but no stand alone shower. There is also no hanging closet, but there is a large chest of drawers and a luggage stand. I simply hung what I needed to over the divider.
