The English Inn of Charlottesville

Older, rustic, and comfortable and friendly. Clean and quaint. Full, hot breakfast daily with eggs, grits, bacon, waffles, sausage, and fresh fruits. Coffee available all day in the lobby. Christian oriented.

Didn't know that there was not a bar. Not much to do, as pool was being repaired.

The beds and pillows were great.

.There was no information in the rooms. They told us when breakfast was, when cookies were served etc. But that was a brief discussion at check in. It would be helpful if they had that in the room on a peice of paper. Along with local restaurants to eat at. Breakfast was cold and eggs were not done. We even went at 6:30 when they started and the food was not hot.

Excellent variety for breakfast. They had yogurt, cottage cheese, peaches, a variety of toasts, paitries, hot dishes like eggs, potatoes, sausage & bacon, waffles or pancakes, a few juices, and great coffee. The breakfast attendant was extremely helpful, refilled food quickly and cleaned tables as they emptied. The room was a good size and the location was perfect to go to Monticello and Shenandoah NP.

The bed was not comfortable and hurt both our bodies. The bathroom was small and the showers door had a bar on the inside that if you hit it, it hurt. Air-conditioner could have been more quiet.

Breakfast was great, staff were absolutely fantastic - very friendly and helpful. I stayed for 6 nights and it felt like home. Great services like cold water, tea and coffee available 24/7, the shuttle bus, an umbrella if you need to borrow one. The room was spacious and comfortable. On an environmental note I enjoyed that there wasn't a turndown service throughout the stay - having sheets and towels changed daily is unnecessary, on the negative side there though was the use of disposables only at the breakfast service.

Laundry service was not available and there was no notification of that until I couldn't get my laundry done on site. But hardly something to turn you off.

Breakfast was very good - wide selection of dishes to satisfy all tastes, and friendly service. The surroundings very good and all the menu selections were replenished regularly. Highly recommended. The beds were big and comfortable and the bathroom was well sized. The location of the hotel was close to shopping and services as well as transportation.

No complaints at all. The first room we were assigned had a problem with the air-conditioner but this was promptly fixed as we were assigned a different room.

I liked the staff, the tea and cookies in the afternoon. That they allow dogs.Like the British charm. Full size fridge and microwave. Nice breakfast.

The room had no mirror in the bedroom, only one trashcan.

Facility in general and room in particular was clean and fresh. We sometimes have observed in older facilities a musty smell but English Inn has none of that... it's been well maintained... it's fresh... its clean. Breakfast bar was nice too.

2 minor nuisance items... the TV would not turn off. Turned it off.. goes off for about 10 seconds... then turned itself back on. Had to unplug it to turn it off. Desk chair would not raise... lift handle by seat did not work. As noted.. just minor nuisance items. We mentioned to desk so they would know. Overall room was great.

Wonderful location just right down the road from the John Paul John’s arena and right near tons of food and shopping. I have stayed here 2 times already and the breakfast is wonderful, not often do you find a hotel that offers fresh fruit and bacon.

Honestly, not much about this place I didn’t like. They are currently working on renovating a section of rooms so I guess in anticipation of that the rest of the hotel needs to be updated some but overall this place is wonderful!

Breakfast was better than the average continental. It was a quiet setting and I liked having places to eat close without it being too busy.

Unfortunately the bed wasn't that comfortable and that was made worse by the pillows. Feather pillows sound nice in theory but offer zero support so after 4 nights, my neck is killing me. Staff was nice enough to provide us with 2 more pillows for stacking at our request, but that didn't help. It would be nice to have a more supportive pillow as an option. (I brought 1 from home but next time I will bring 2)

Absolutely WONDERFUL!!! Location, food, staff (so nice) and the peaceful music! Also liked that the room was large and there was plenty of spread-out space for tables. Not congested like most hotels. Decor is dated but, for me, adds to the “English” charm. Very clean. Thanks for a great stay! Oh, and the warm COOKIES!

Just that I couldn’t get ABC or NBC on the television. I stayed a few days, so I really missed seeing my morning news. But, overall, I really enjoyed the hotel!
