OK, this was one of the best (also most expensive) rooms in what is a sprawling pub complex in a very busy and relatively prestigious location, namely, the Coogee beach front on the main strip. It has all the facilities of a large pub: bars, restaurants etc. This review is about the rooms in the main pub building at the front of the complex, not the boutique hotel at the back, which is where the car park is. This was a good suite, comfortably furnished, balcony great for people watching, and very sunny with no roof so you can watch the stars at night. Balcony is shaded in the afternoon. Our particular room was far enough from the main beer garden area that there was no noise problems from the pub. They let us leave our car in their car park for a few hours after we checked out for no extra cost, which if you know Coogee, is a bonus.

Rooms on this (top) level have a balcony that was very sunny and has no roof, so lots of sun on the balcony in the morning, i.e. too much if hot, and no good if raining. The on-site car park under the boutique hotel is a long way from the front of the building which means a long carry of your stuff to get to the rooms, with no lift and a fair amount of stairs and corridors to navigate (but the staff helped with the carry when we checked in). Not as self-contained as a proper apartment alas, by which I mean only a small bar fridge, and no kitchenette to speak of. To my memory, no proper table to eat off, either. Which is a shame, as the rooms are quite big enough to be a good home away from home otherwise.

I booked to stay at the older part of the hotel which I had stayed in before and loved - the balcony overlooking the beer garden was fab. This trip however I arrived with bronchitis, no voice and a very horrid cough. The lady at reception (I wish I’d gotten her name) checked me in and then a couple of minutes later asked for my room key card back as she had decided to upgrade me to the boutique hotel. This was absolutely amazing and completely above and beyond what was required and expected. Not only that but when I decided to stay an extra week - again booking the cheaper option - as I was still unwell, the same lovely lady upgraded me again and kept me in the same room. The room itself was fantastic, so much space. A desk with chair, sofa and a huge bed. The bathroom had a walk-in shower as well as a bath and the air con was freezing cold and quiet. The room was quiet and I could see the ocean from my window. Room service was exceptionally quick and the food was always hot. All the staff I interacted with were amazing, incredibly friendly and helpful and just happy to offer to do that little bit extra - such as giving you an extra bottle of water - that made the stay so fantastic.

The only ‘problem’, and it really wasn’t much of a problem at all, with the room was that the shutters over the window still let a fair amount of light in on the morning - I didn’t find this to be an issue myself but some people might.

Amazing location, very comfortable room. Staff very helpful with everything.

The aircon is effective, but the airflow is directed straight towards the bed, which means you can feel the air flowing over you when you're trying to sleep. My room faced Coogee Bay Road, and it's very noisy: ear plugs are absolutely required. Double glazing would be a big improvement. Also, the louvre windows let in a lot of light, so blackout curtains would be another helpful improvement.

Location was great, room was lovely and very comfortable, shared balcony had a great view and a nice place to sit and far bigger than expected and although my room was over looking the beer garden and I stayed on a friday night just before New year the noise was not bad at all and I slept like a baby from 9pm after a long flight. I arrived early morning and was able to get an early check-in which was brilliant. Reception staff were great and because my room was in the part with no lift a lovely guy carried my very large case both up and down the stairs for me. I stayed at a far more expensive hotel up the road the night after which was disappointing, my room at The Bay Hotel was more modern and overall nicer!!

Excellent location opposite the beach. Great security at the Pub. Staff were exceptional, always helpful and polite. Hotel room was very spacious and extremely comfortable. We had a view of the Beach from our bay window. So many food and Cafe options around the hotel. Great secure undercover parking for Hotel guests.

No lifts in the hotel rooms and we were on the second floor. Walking up and down the sets of stairs was tedious but we got our incidental exercise and the hotel retained its charm and historical significance

Room, bathroom clean and modern, location, old hotel but beautifully furnished, 26min to airport, great bars and food places just down stairs, beach across the road. Great place for a couple of nights stopover

Would have been nice to know in advance that there was no lift and three flights of stairs, as we had a lot of luggage , The plates in the cupboard were dirty, but that's just a minor housekeeping issue, if you are a light sleeper a little loud at night but ok for us. And yes, I would stay again, but with carry-on luggage, lol

The decor in both the Coogee Bay Hotel, and the Coogee Boutique Hotel is fantastic. The 'ye olde' atmosphere of the Coogee Bay Hotel is the epitome of cool. Staff are very kind and helpful.

The Coogee Bay Hotel is definitely impacted by the noise from the pub below so if you have trouble sleeping, bring ear plugs. If you like partying, it is the perfect place to stay and stumble back to after a big night out.

We arrived earlier than expected and asked for an early check in, the hotel were very helpful by checking us in at 12-00 midday instead of their normal 3-00pm check in. Anything we asked for was no trouble at all, staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent with beach 100 metres from the hotel and a vast array of bars, pubs restaurants along the strip.

We could not find fault at all.

Great location just across the road from a beautiful beach, we had a lovely big room, with a view of the ocean and everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were excellent and very helpful. And we also liked the excellent wine shop within the property.

Our room was vey good and had an ocean view, however directly below our balcony there was a loading bay for the wine shop, which does make a bit of noise in the mornings, not a big issue if you are out and about as you should be 😊
