I traveled alone and really just needed to sleep before the morning departure by boat to Bamfield, so for the first time in my life, I stayed in a dormitory. For 43 dollars, it more than served its purpose. But I chose this hostel mainly because it is also a cultural facility that was converted from a church. Its location near the harbor and its place in the local Art District make this place also unique. But its biggest charm is added by the owners who decided that the house they live in will also be a place of meeting and culture. I attended one concert and it was a really pleasant experience. Not only because of the music but also from meeting the owners, really kind and inspirative people. Otherwise, the hostel is well equipped, clean, and comfortable. Parking right in front of the building. I liked Port Alberni, so I will return here with my family. We will definitely be happy to stay at Chars Landing.

Char's landing hostel is the best place to stay in Port Alberni !! Room is very clean and cozy !! The owner Char is a very friendly and kind ! She helped me a lot when I was in trouble. Thanks to her, I could make a wonderful memories in Port Alberni. While I was staying, there was the music concert in the 2nd floor hall. I enjoyed it with local people. Easy to access the main street !! High-speed wifi !! Big space shower/bath rooms !! Everything is perfect !!

This is a great apartment for a group or family. Lots of space and beds for everyone. We were 3 adults, 1 child and 1 dog and everyone had their own space. There is room and beds for more of course. Beds and living room furniture were very comfortable. The location is perfect for walking to shops for groceries and not far from hiking and swimming opportunities in the area. The kitchen and bathroom were fully equipped and clean. We would absolutely stay here again when in Port Alberni. Thank you Char!

There are not doors between beds but that is clear in the pictures and was not a problem for our group at all, the dividers were fine.

Cute hostel with a lot of character. The main lodge was booked but Char put us up in another area where the beds were nicely separated out into their own "sleeping cubicle" which provided a chair for your stuff and plug-ins to charge the phones. Water was provided too which was a nice touch. Char was an exceptional host in providing information on how to access the property since we were checking in late. We were driving in so she also gave us information on what roads to access due to heavy construction in the area.

The shower was a bit tiny and made for an interesting experience haha - but it provided a place to get cleaned up and with hot water

First time we've stayed in a hostel, and it was as positive as friends told us it would be. We thought hostels were for young people, and we're senior seniors. We met new friends from different countries and had interesting and informative conversations about their experiences in their part of the world. Char has done a wonderful job creating this hostel, which is a welcome benefit to travelers. It of course is not as 'luxurious' as an expensive hotel, but it was comfortable and was all we needed. Every unit has its own private bathroom, and the hostel has a full kitchen and a common area (TV etc). Free internet is very useful in making future travel arrangements. Thank you, Char.

Not a complaint but expect to be cozy in bed with your partner.

Char’s Landing is a very comfortable place to stay. It’s a short walk from the harbor and the grocery store. Everything you might need for cooking is there and there’s a grocery store in easy walking distance. It’s a small hostel and feels very safe. I would love to return some day. Also, if you’re lucky, there might be a concert while you’re there!

I loved the Jazz night on Sunday upstairs, an eclectic place. We missed the poetry night on Wednesday. We were able to prepare meals or snacks when needed and it was great to have some items provided like some ice cubes from the freezer and other occasional items like bread and jam when we ran out of these items. We enjoyed briefly talking to other travellers but mostly we had the common space use to ourselves. Thanks Char and Karl.

No complaints. Would have loved two beds instead of bunk beds but we knew we were getting bunkbeds when we booked and the Hostel has to maximize the number of beds for families. Perfect for when we bring our grand daughters.

Awesome location for catching early morning Lady Rose boat tour. Nice staff. Clean room and common area. Private room with twin bed and two singles. The twin was much softer. The shower had excellent water pressure and great hot water. The kitchen area has everything you need.

Clean, safe, homely, great price, very friendly and fun. Loved the venue upstairs and sitting on the lovely verandah to have our home cooked dinners. Room was cool with a great fan on when we arrived, loads of towels and sheets etc provided. Great location, a real home from home.

I was leary at first, booking a hostel with 2 children and my 70 year old mom but we needed a pet friendly accommodation and after reading the reviews I decided to give it a shot. And well, what a nice surprise. We stayed in bedroom #3 with 2 bunk beds and a privatebathroom.. It was accessible for my mom and the kids loved sleeping on the bunk beds. The kitchen was right there and though we had neighbors in other rooms we didn't even know it. We crossed paths once and everyone was friendly; especially toward our 7 month old lab. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. We ran into Char twice and saw was lovely, busily typing and cleaning. It was warm however given there is no a/c, but there are fans and its on the bottom floor so it was cooler overnight. We'll definitely be back! Thank you :)

Air conditioning would have been be a bonus but not the be all end all!
