Located in the heart of the city and within walkable distance to all the Tourist attraction like the Inner Harbor and Fairmont Empress hotel, Royal BC Museum and Parliament Building. Excellent for Solo and Budget Travelers. Bus stop right around the corner to bring you from outside the Ferry stop and drop you. Bus will also take you to Butchart Garden (Must Try their AFTERNOON TEA for 50 bucks rate is double in EMPRESS HOTEL for the same) from here just get the Day pass for the Bus. Visit Victoria Public Market nearby for a great Indian Vegetarian Restaurant called Shashwat Indian. Visit Lunch Buffet Indian Restaurant called Curry Club walkable to Royal BC Museum. Walk on the GOVERNMENT STREET, nice gift and chocolate shops. Walk on Government Street to reach CHINATOWN and visit the FAN TAN ALLEY (Narrowest Alley), Try soup, dumplings from one of the local Chinese Restaurant, Take pics of the CHINATOWN gate. Fairmont Empress hotel needs to be visited in the day and looks different at night with all the lights. Enter the EMPRESS HOTEL from the SIDE ENTRANCE to go to the LOBBY for the photos and restroom. Take the Ferry in front of the EMPRESS HOTEL from the Harbor area. The tours and Hop on Hop off bus depart in front of the Empress hotel. The property has Excellent buffet style Breakfast and good homely dinner. Bar area is great with free drinks everyday and for purchase. Strongly recommend. Will Return.

My bed was very comfy, wooden frames bunks with sturdy ladders. Bed also had privacy curtain, light and plug socket. Lockers in room were great, could wheel a big suitcase right into it! There was also a fridge in the room! Bathrooms - plenty on each floor, toilet, sink and shower all together. Luggage storage and kitchen good. Breakfast was fine - bread, toaster waffles, various spreads, fruit (tinned mix), boiled eggs, tea, coffee (no milk though).

the location is excellent. the bunk bed is confortable with several washrooms. There is 4 washing units and 5 dryers. The breakfast is as simple as nice. The staff is very welcoming.

Traveling with friends, we were not able to get the same dormitory. All of us (4) were dispatched in different dormitories. Moreover, the dormitory is noisy because of the basement fan. Don’t forget your earplugs but the hostel can provide some for you :)

I really enjoyed the staff and people, it felt like family. The breakfast there is Godly 🩵

Everything was perfect

Healthy food included for guests, friendly helpful happy staff, good security measures, well organized.

The bed frame has wide slats across it. A foam mattress can be comfortable but it needs to be on a hard flat surface, at least plywood. I stayed in a double room on my 3rd night and the bed had a custom built wood frame. I finally got the sleep I came for and paid $40 less for it, but had to check out the next day. Private bathroom or a decent sleep? That's a conundrum. Thought it worth mentioning. Otherwise I enjoy staying at the Ocean Island Inn.

I like that breakfast and dinner are offered. They aren't fancy but since this is a hostel, the fact it offers simple meals is great. I also like that there is a dining room and kitchen as well as a bar where a free drink is offered to guests staying at the hostel. The staff are friendly.

It can get noisy as the walls are thin. The common/shared areas aren't always cleaned (e.g. kitchen sinks seemed to be the worst as there were guests who had not bothered throwing out the remainder of their food into the organic bin before washing their dishes and therefore the catchments were full of food such as cereal).

The location is good for exploring downtown Victoria on foot, if you don't mind the dodgy looking people that walk those same streets. Having dinner and breakfast included is nice for those travelling on a budget, as is having a kitchen available for cooking your own meals. The place gets lively in the evening, with people socializing in the common areas. The private showers in the queen room we stayed in were quite clean.

There's a certain sense of insecurity in the area due to dodgy characters hanging around, but that's not something that the hostel can fix. It mitigates concerns well enough with a few security measures. The bed is a bit basic, but that's not surprising given it's a hostel.

- Clean - I love that this hostel is able to cultivate a lovely “hostel culture”, which is great for people travelling alone to make friends. The common areas are cozy, the fact that they offer free beer, free breakfast and free dinner totally encourages us to meet our neighbours - breakfast: significantly better than average hostel. Fruits, yoghurt, eggs, bread, juices - dinner: Surprisingly very good. Vegetarian. Had on different days option of lentil curry, lentil soup, minestrone soup, ginger carrot soup, … — All of them excellent - nice and helpful staff - comfortable mattress and pillow, not noisy - clean kitchen, bedroom and bathroom
