This was the best accommodation during our nearly 3 weeks stay in Costa Rica. It had an exceptional service - from the very warm welcome to all the helpful tips and fulfilled wishes. We were offered a frog and bird tour every day / night and made a use of it - which was very nice, because every day we saw slightly other animals. Leo and his team made a very good job - you feel that they like what they are doing and that they are going the extra mile (without making this noticeable for the guests) so that you feel that it is their wish to offer their guests the best possible experience. The location is wonderful with the well kept garden which is a home for a lot of animals, especially frogs and birds. It was so nice being able to see them in their natural habitat while feeling safe because of the safe property. Also the room was very nice and well equipped. We as a family of 4 can highly recommend staying there.

Your must stay if you’re visiting La Fortuna. Leo is one of the most genuine and kindest people we have ever met, nothing was too much trouble. You can tell he works so hard and he really made out stay. The highlight of our stay was the free evening night tours round their beautiful garden at the end of the property. Leo showed us various frogs, birds and insects and then told us about them. Make sure you go back in the day too! Each morning we sat and watched the birds while Leo explained what each one was, followed by a fantastic breakfast. The rooms are very spacious and very clean with every appliance you could possibly need and a private sheltered parking space. We would 100% return, we cannot thank Leo enough for such a great stay.

This hotel was more than we expected. The property is beautiful, our room had 3 king-size beds and a full kitchen. There were fruits on the table when we arrived. Clean and comfortable room. Leo, the host, was very attentive. I mentioned to him that we are on the road trip because our son's Birthday is coming up in a couple of days and in the morning he brought our son a cake with a Happy Birthday message. That made our day! Leo also said that because we missed the night tour, we can always come and ask for it if we are in the area. Everything about this place was above our expectations. Thank you, Leo, for the great hospitality!

The only thing I didn't like is that we only stayed there for 1 night :).

Excellent, comfortable, clean accommodation. Extremely well-equipped kitchen (more gadgets than we have at home!). Beautiful breakfast, and great at catering for the kids by providing pancakes instead of the traditional breakfast. Lovely pool. Fantastic frog walk on our first night. Good laundry service. On the day we left, we had to go at 5am, but they were amazing and made us breakfast to go, including pancakes and a bottle of syrup! Highly recommended.

We didn't have a hire car so we spent a lot on taxis. However, most of the places in the area you visit will need a taxi, even if you stayed in the centre of La Fortuna. So this was our error, not anything to do with the hotel, but I recommend getting a hire car if you can. Other than that, when staff are not at reception, it would be helpful if there was a sign to say what time they will return so that guests know.

Very personal accommodation, very clean and spacious. Great breakfast, something varied every morning, requests/specials were fulfilled immediately and noted for the next day. Leo (the boss) is passionate about his work and loves to share his knowledge. His enthusiasm for the flora and fauna is contagious! Super night frog tour, bird watching and guided tour of a private property with lots of information about the land, people and life (prior request necessary). We were even lucky enough to see sloths with babies very close!

Absolutely nothing. The holiday could not have started better! We will gladly come again!!!! Thank you Leo and Team, you are great!!!!

Staying at Cabanas del Rio was perfect for our vacation. Leo, that runs the property, could not have been more accommodating and pleasant. The morning breakfast was always delicious and the property so pretty. There is a garden path in the back of the property that leads to the river and you can sign up for a wonderful night frog tour. We saw frogs we never would have noticed without Leo. Each room has a spot to park the car right at the door and the location was close to everything we wanted to see and do.

The rooms tend to smell a little musty if not cleaned regularly, but I think that is just due to the constant humid rainy weather there. But once the girls cleaned our rooms the smell went away.

We loved our stay here. Our kids enjoyed exploring the paths and finding poison dart frogs and then we enjoyed an evening tour that was included where we saw all kinds of frogs including the red eyed tree frog. So nice to have this included where we already were! We took advantage of the kitchen to make simple lunches and dinners and the host offered up a delicious artisanal hot sauce to help make our meals a little tastier. The breakfast in the morning was awesome! Fresh fruit and local cuisine plus pancakes as option for our more selective 7 year old. Was easy to get to things with a rental car- not sure how easy it would be without.

We loved it here! Everything was perfect, from the breakfast, to the cabañas, to the location, to the night frog tour. It was our first place to stay in Costa Rica and we were welcomed with open arms. Thank you to the whole team who works there, it was a true pleasure to stay with you. Location-wise: great location, very close to the city of La Fortuna, but not the noise of the town, way more relaxed. Cabaña / room: super clean, had everything, you can even cook there with all equipment, we had three two-person beds; so perfect if you stay with kids. We are a couple, so we could choose which bed we wanted to sleep in. Bathroom: worked good, good shower, toilet and sink!. Kitchen: perfect, looked very new. Bed; perfect, big bed, enough closets for your space. Two couches, great as well. Breakfast; perfect!!! Choice between local breakfast and more Western breakfast. Tried both and both were delicious, also got fresh juicy fruit and often a delicious side dish such as a pancake or fresh yoghurt. 10/10, and they do live cooking, so you are really there with them. Night frog tour: we LOVED it, he was super professional and knew all these great facts about the frogs. We saw so many!!! And he was very patient as I was making pictures of the frogs!!! They do the tour in their back yard which is super pretty, also in daylight as it’s very close to the river and has plenty of birds. Little paradise! All in all, definitely recommend, we would 100% come back here. Thanks to the whole team of the accommodation.

Amazing and stunning cabins with a tropical garden at the back where the wonderful owner Leo does daily night tours where you can see amazing Poisonous dart frogs,other frogs,amazing bugs such as the leaf cutting Ant and you get to enjoy a yummy daily breakfast which is amazing! with a stunning view of watching the daily bird feeding where you will experience seeing all types of Costa Rican birds only a few steps away while you eat! The rooms are super clean and have a kitchen,bedrooms,air conditioning and it’s very cosy and spacious! The staff are amazing and Leo and Ariana are super nice people that make you feel welcomed and they always have a smile on their face and I can’t thank them enough for such a lovely stay here at Cabaña del Rio,the location is great to all the attractions such as zip lining,Volcano 1969,Mistico bridge,La fortuna waterfall,natural hot springs and many many more attractions! Every thing was amazing so there is nothing to not like!

I came to visit with my family, and we were greeted warmly and invited into our cabana with a tour of the grounds after a long day of traveling. The views of the volcano was immaculate, right from our doorstep of our place. My daughters really made use of the pool that was always warm and perfect for sun bathing. Leo showed great hospitality throughout our stay, very personable and accommodating when it came to breakfast time. The breakfast had delicious Costa Rican food, always fresh cut fruit, and pancakes as an alternative. Leo guided the family out for a frog tour one night, and he was very knowledgeable about Costa Rica’s wild life and had a great eye to find the different frogs in the backyard garden right on the venue. The cabanas themselves were petite, clean and provided all the essentials to accommodate a temporary home away from home. Thank you to all the workers at Cabanas del Rio! I Definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Fortuna, Costa Rica this beautiful place.
