Castletown isn't a big place but The George is very central. The staff couldn't do enough for you. I didn't eat at the hotel as I was visiting family nearby but judging by the number of people eating in the hotel I can only imagine the food was good. The hotel was refurbished a few years back and is in tip top condition.

As previously mentioned the hotel was refurbished a few years back and this is reflected in the price increases. £100 for a single room midweek might seem a little steep but the airport hotel was £67 for the Friday night (The George didn't have a room available) so perhaps £100 is reasonable (I guess I'm used to Thai Hotel prices?)

Breakfast was good and the location was excellent overlooking the town square and the castle. We had a balcony and I enjoyed sitting in the window and looking at what was happening in the square. There was also a comfortable seating area and a coffee machine for good coffee in the room. Our friends were on the floor above although directly overhead they were not nearby. Food in the hotel was generally good and we enjoyed a couple of meals there. Staff were friendly and made us welcome, there was a good atmosphere in the pub and restaurant. One member of staff gave us useful tips on where to visit. There was plenty of parking when we were there. There were good walks around the town and some museums etc to visit along with some decent coffee houses. The castle was well worth visiting, very interesting.

Hotel stopped serving food after 6.00 on Sunday as did the other pubs. Those that served later were found to be fully booked or had no food left! We ended up with a takeaway in the room. We could have driven to Douglas but after a full day out just wanted to eat in the hotel or nearby. The hotel did warn us beforehand but it was still a nuisance. Some of cupboards and wardrobes in the hotel needed an internal dust. Probably not often used on weekend breaks.

Lovely pub and hotel in a brilliant location, right in the centre of Castletown close to other places to eat and drink, next to the Castle and about 50 meters from rockpooling and the sea. The staff were really lovely and the breakfast excellent. Lovely and quiet at night and a lovely place out front to sit in the sunshine with a drink. Really really good place to stay.

Everything was perfect: fantastic location opposite the castle, stylish, quiet, comfortable room with everything you could need, delicious breakfast and evening meals, good ambiance, sunny outside areas. There is a bus top outside that takes you to the airport in about 5 minutes. We were able to leave our bags before and after checkout.

The only thing I can think of is that I would have liked to have seen locally sourced ingredients on the menu, wherever we go we like to eat locally produced food. There were some homemade made options fortunately.

Breakfast was excellent, great selection. Location was in the centre of the town but still very quite at night. Staff very friendly and accommodating.

No lift and we were on the third floor and the steps were very steep. Needed to book a table for the evening meal just couldn't decide to eat there. The specials on the evening meal didn't change over the week. Very limited parking. No residence lounge if you wanted to sit and read.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Large, comfortable and extremely clean en-suite room with great facilities. Good choice of breakfast options and well cooked. We ate in the hotel on each of the three nights of our stay in the end as the evening meal menu was so good. Lovely sitting outside on the terrace for a pre and post dinner drink overlooking the castle as that side was in the shade after a really hot day but there is also a more private patio area at the rear which I think gets the evening sun.

The staff were lovely. The breakfast was amazing. Great location. Bus stop outside and lovely little town facing the castle

Had to go up 3 flights of stairs. Could see light through the blind, could do with black out curtains. Room wasn't as clean as first thought, quite a few cobwebs on cieling and corners.

The George is perfectly situated to explore the Isle of Man's jewel Castletown and beyond. Located in the main town square opposite the castle and close to the bus stop, museums, shops and picturesque harbour it is beautiful when lit up at night. The hotel, or pub with rooms, feels warm, cosy and intimate upon arrival and with friendly staff and a "hands-on" manager, it really does feel like a bespoke stay experience. Special mention of Spencer, wonderful advocate for this establishment, who, with charm and subtlety, made a guests night by sorting her phone wifi. The George's food justifys it's island-wide good reputation (I chat and listen as I explore) with a broad menu and reasonable prices, I found myself returning for the relaxed atmosphere. Good too to see local beers on draught! During my stay I had an unforseen personal family situation to deal with and I the George's staff could not do more to help. I travel widely and believe that praise when deserved should be given, I believe the UK needs more relaxed havens like The George.

That I couldn't stay longer! Shall return, this time when the castle and maritime museum are open for the season.

First of all the staff, they were super friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. The cleanliness was spot on, I tried looking for dirt in my room and found it faultless. The food was absolutely delicious too, home cooked and fresh. In the bar there was a cosy log fire on the go, and the decor was interesting, with pictures hanging, and there was ample areas to be seated at a table or at the bar. As a solo traveller, the staff were keen to advice me on popular places to visit, and guided me on local information which was very helpful. All in all I totally would recommend The George, and if I’m ever back in the area, I’d definitely be happy to go back there again.

I couldn’t find a reason for any negative feedback, my experience there was very pleasing.
