Great location - very quiet yet only minutes away from bars, cafes etc. and close to railway station if needed. The little square where the hotel was located was picturesque with the typical 'shabby chic' look of Venice. The university was located just a few minutes away - down the main alley/street beside the square - and the student cafe (open to the public) beside a canal near the railway offered coffee and pastries etc. at cheap prices for breakfast. Loads of bars and cafes just to stop, relax and people-watch. No cars which was excellent. Use Allilaguna ferry to and from airport (€15each), follow blue signs from airport and buy ticket from machine at pier. We only used the waterbus once to coast down the Grand Canal for the experience - €9. Catch it at the first stop for the best seats as most people catch it from the railway station (second stop) - not really worth buying an expensive 24/48 hour ticket as everywhere is accessible by foot. We stayed for 3 nights and wouldn't have needed any more that that as Venice City is quite compact. We then took the train to Rome - best price in advance via Trainline. (Trenitalia - Frecciarossa).

The hotel was close to the central station, to a vaporetto stop and in a quiet neighbourhood. The room was really cute, clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and let us leave our luggage in the lobby since we arrived earlier than the check-in time, so that we could move around easily.

Since the hotel was a little further from the "city center" and more quiet, it was a little scary for us to return when it was dark. In addition, in order to get in, we had to give a password, but the buttons at the device were hard to press, we tried a few times. Lastly, the 2nd day the maid came to clean but she didn't empty the trash can nor leave us an extra roll of toilet paper. In addition, despite the fact that we had locked our room door, she left it unlocked.

The room was very nice and somewhat spacious, we had two single beds which could be made into a double bed if requested. The bathroom had a sink, toilet, bidet and shower as well as a radiator which was very powerful but adjustable. There was A/C a safe and travel kettle in the room. Though we did encounter some difficulties with the receptionists at the start they resolved these and I’d say this property is very good value. It’s not terribly far from the main tourist attractions and I would recommend it as a quiet place to stay despite the somewhat thin walls.

To begin with the staff were a little rude, I understand that there was a language barrier as my Italian is not very good and there English was limited. We had asked for two single beds but the room was made up as a double, I explained to them that we had requested two beds and they somewhat rudely told us that we have to ask and would have to sleep on the double bed, I showed them our preference on booking.com and that we had messaged them to ask for this and they then agreed to change it. We offered to change the beds ourselves but they did this for us and it was a good job. I don’t think the fridge worked in the room, and the shower is a little short for me (6’1) as it is under the stairs with unusual doors, but the water was hot enough and overall the facilities were nice.

*The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. We really appreciated them letting us leave our luggage prior to check in. *The hotel was in a quiet, peaceful, secure area which was a nice escape from the crowds. It was a close walk to the train station too. *Rooms are basic but this was as advertised in the listing and reflective of the price which was more than fair. The room was nice and clean, had a cool charm to it and was perfect for us for a 2 night stay. The house keeping did a daily clean which we appreciated.

Nothing! We would happily stay here again and recommend it to others.

A very friendly man sits at the reception. The room had air-conditioning, which made us very happy. The apartment is very clean and spacious.

The soundproofing is poor, so we could hear noise in the hallway outside the front door.

The room was spacious, quaintly decorated, with some nice furniture. The bed was comfortable, and was close to both the train station and city centre. The area itself was quiet, as it is on the edge of the city. The staff were friendly and laid back, and we're very helpful, despite the language barrier (but that's because I try but suck at learning new languages).

It could have done with having two pillows per guest, as they were very thin, and caused a bit of a restless night. The walls are very thin, and every creak and movement could be heard from the surrounding rooms (although this cannot be helped, and am just stating it as an observation).

The hotel is very cute, with very nice design. The rooms are clean, I had a room with a piano) The staff is friendly, the administrator told me the fastest way to reach bus station to the airport, which Google didn’t know. Olso he gave me an umbrella for all my stay, because it was raining. One minus is only that the noise from room upstairs was audible. The sound of toilet and shower, that was above the room, but not above the toilet of my room. So it’s better to ask for a room upstairs

The staff here were so lovely and helpful. let us drop our luggage in and collect the keys even though the room wasn’t yet ready. location is really good especially for the price as most hotels on venice island were double / triple the price of this one.

quite outdated and very worn but it was expected as most hotels in venice are. air con wasnt very cold unless stood next to it but we could open the windows which helped. It was perfect for a nights sleep which is all we needed it for.

Ca' Fontanea is the perfect hideaway for exploring lesser-known Venice. It's a short walk or water-bus ride to Santa Lucia station and it's such a relief to be away from the crowds. The guesthouse is run by a family who always has the front desk staffed during the morning and genuinely want to know how to make your stay better. My ground-floor room was huge and the shower pressure was perfect. The room furnishings are super cute and very importantly, the wi-fi is strong. I would stay here again.

zero complaints!
