It was a lovely hotel. We had to book at the last minute as the place we had originally booked just outside Venice was awful, and we had to move. We saw the reviews and decided to book the Hotel Ateneo, and we are so glad we did. It was lovely and comfortable. The staff were great and so helpful. We are grateful to them for making our stay in Venice so memorable. We would stay there again, but please give us a room on one of the lower floors next time. The room we had was on the third floor, and there's no lift. But that didn't cause any issues to us.

The bathroom in our room had a low ceiling, and the shower was not ideal for my partner, who is 6 ft. So he had to have a bath instead of a shower. But it didn't put us off.

The location is perfect. 5-10 mins walk to all landmarks, public transportation, whatever! The hotel looks nice - I mean it looks like a hotel and not just a door in the middle of a narrow street somewhere in the old town. It’s clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and responsive.

There’s a terrace on the pics here, but unfortunately there was no terrace. I mean it was closed, we had a breakfast just inside some room on the ground floor despite that the weather was lovely in the beginning of June. And to be honest that was one of the reasons why I booked this hotel as I thought it would be nice to have a breakfast outside… Also, the breakfast itself was pretty poor. The food was good (cheese, ham, pastry), but the selection of it was very poor. It was the same breakfast every day. There were no mosquito nets on the windows, so, mosquitos were killing me at night. Frankly speaking, I personally think that this hotel is a bit overpriced, but I guess it’s the general problem of the hotels in the city center.

Might be nice to have a kettle in the room for making coffee or tea

Great location as we were going to the theatre which was a two minutes walk. The hotel was very traditional , our room was cleaned daily . Lovely friendly staff . Hot breakfast of ham and eggs , pastries , cheese , salami, ham , bread and jam , tea and coffee . Great terrace , although we were there in January so no outside seating .

The bathroom possibly could have done with an extra shelf or unit for toiletries.

This is an oasis in crowded Venice. While it's 5 to 10 minutes walk to everything, the area is quiet. The hotel is classy with very beautiful Venetian decorations that gets you in the mood. Very friendly staff (especially the lady at breakfast buffet). You see Gendoloas from the windows.

It's not a specific issue to the hotel, but proximity to water means having mosquitoes. We had to keep windows closed to avoid the issue.

Very friendly and helpful front desk staff.A real delight. Although this hotel might be classified as "mid-budget" ,there is nothing shabby whatsoever about the hotel.Strong air con,good bathrooms,comfortable bed. It's a few minutes walk to San Marco-the center of Venice. There are many restaurants and cafes within 1 minute's walk from the hotel. Room was quiet.I slept with windows open.Good sound insolation-never heard other guests. Hotel wifi was very good. The hotel is located just off a charming,atmospheric square with several restaurants.

The breakfast was poor but that seems the norm in Italy. The concept that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" does NOT apply in this country,even in several 5-star hotels in Sicily where I stayed. In any event, there are many charming outdoor cafes 30-60 seconds away where a more comprehensive breakfast may be ordered. The persons who worked the breakfast duty did an outstanding job.

We had an other reservation which was cancelled at arrival, so we needed a place to stay urgently. The location is excellent, really close to San Marco. The receptionist was helpful. The room was clean. The breakfast was tasty and abundant. We had a good night sleep.

The room, and the bathroom is small. If You are staying for a night, it's perfect. But for longer stays the space might feel tight.

All staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent staff in breakfast room and room service staff, very friendly to our little boy. Cot available for our little boy as well, and kettle in the room. Safety box in room and fridge were very useful. Excellent location. We enjoyed our stay very much, thank you. Pastries at breakfast were lovely.

The staff were incredible…friendly loaded with information at anytime day or night. Attentive to the smallest of details. Accomodating in both Spanish and English and even taught us a few key Italian words to make our trip a little easier.

Not much to not like. It really was a great stay

The hotel appears to be deep in Venice but it is conveniently located close to all major points of interest. As of July 22 you need masks for all Venice public transport. Waking around Venice from hotel was easy. Take water taxi to Rialto or San Marco stops and walk 10 mins to hotel. The room was very clean, bit small but functional with AC, 3 single beds, good size bathroom, TV, and fridge and very helpful staff. Breakfast was good, coffee, tea, water, usual cereals, bread eggs, ham, cheese and yoghurts with the best croissants.
