The hotel has an excellent location on the Grand Canal. It is opposite the train station which was perfect for us. The water taxis and ticket office was a 5 minute walk across the bridge. The Room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was fantastic! The lady in the restaurant/ breakfast was extremely helpful, friendly and polite- she wore spectacles- I didn't get her name- excellent service from her.

The hairdryer is too small. It kept over heating and switching off- that was very frustrating. I would highly recommend the hotel attend to this. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the two ladies at reception. There was only one male assistant at reception who was extremely unhelpful and unfriendly when we approached him about a taxi to the airport.

Location was close to the main train station and point of entry into Venice. You did have to travel to main attractions (water bus) however your travel to/from the airport was very easy. Also accommodation was a little cheaper, so overall we thought it was a good option. When weather allowed drinks on terrace at top of hotel overlooking the grand canal was very enjoyable. Also good restaurant, part of hotel, great to be able to eat in when the weather was poor.

The coffee at breakfast time was not good, we love our coffee. Eating out was, to our surprise, considerably more expensive than what we experienced in the area around Saint Marks Square.

The Carlton is perfectly located a short distance from the train and bus station for the train station you need only cross one bridge. The staff on check in were kind and helpful. There is some information on tours of the islands displayed and water bus tickets too. The decor is beautifully Vancian, with lovely displays of Murano glass in the lobby.

There were only 2 things of note that come to mind. The room was too warm and the AC seemed to only emit warm air. we did our best with the unit but resorted to opening both windows. The view from the window was of the building next door which was roughly 1.5m away. There were also no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Great location across canal from train station and short walk to bus station. Friendly and helpful; staff Bedroom best described as compact/minimalist. Large comfortable bed. Bathroom adequate, towels O.K. Small TV with two English news channels. Small fridge, chair and desk. Minimalist toiletries. AC and lighting were O.K. Good for 1–3-night stays. Larger rooms available. Good breakfast included.

Very little clothes stage, thief proof clothes hangers. No tea/coffee making facilities. Parquetry floor. Walls need a repaint.

Location was fantastic. Very convenient for anyone travelling via train or that wants to be near several areas of Venice but not only the super touristic ones. The stuff was very professional. The rooftop bar of the hotel was amazing and the communal areas are well maintained and elegant.

The canal is extremely noisy which is ok for a few days but for longer stays I believe it would help if the windows would be double or triple glazed. The rooms are a bit tired and look more like a three star hotel (perhaps even two). The bathroom was quite spacious but the shower tub was flooding very fast. Also, the hotel charges for water which is unheard of in four star hotels.

We stayed at the Carlton twice for 2 nights before and after a Royal Caribbean cruise. The first stay was so-so, the room was tiny and mattresses were rocks. The second stay was much better. Larger room, nicer furnishing.

The hotel was decent but Venice is a dump, overcrowded, people selling street junk everywhere. The canals are a mad house with taxis and cargo boats screaming up and down. The town is decaying and nobody is doing anything about it. This hotel cost me over $500 for two nights and from what I could tell, that was lower than the norm there. Prices are ridiculous and once you've seen a couple of cathedrals there's nothing left. In addition, a guy picked my pocket walking into the hotel but I caught him and his partner and they dropped the wallet. Don't bother with Venice.

The hotel and its location was fantastic. Staff were friendly but at breakfast were run off their feet, mainly by demanding guests. Reception staff extremely helpful on giving information and maps of places to visit, booking travel tickets and taxi to airport and giving advice. Beautiful room with lovely views of the canal The roof top bar was lovely. Shower was great. although the floor was soaked due to narrow bath each time we used it, which meant towels were being changed daily

these were not major things. but things you would not expect in a 4 star hotel and we would return if in Venice again. Breakfast - a great choice but things were not stocked up quickly enough and long queues with people waiting, when they had run out. The juice machines kept running out and took a while to get refilled. No teaspoons at the coffee machines, on more than one occassion. Room - Lack of storage ( drawers) in the room, not a big thing but just meant one case had to be left out in a room that was on the small side already. Air con was poor. It was the hottest time of the year, so this may not have helped matters. Bathroom - Bath tub narrow, could just about stand in it. Drinks - expensive in both bar and mini bar

Location close to the train station. Roof top restaurant Breakfast on site

Air conditioning had been turned off for the season in our room. It was sweltering! So, we opened the window and let in the mosquitoes. There was black mold growing in the shower stall.

We travelled with our parents and stayed in rooms 306 and 307. These are both large rooms with comfortable beds and with balconies overlooking the Grand Canal. We really enjoyed the view over the canal and it was worth it to us to pay more for this, but just be careful as the noise from the boats might bother some. Room 306 had a modernised bathroom with a shower (which was suitable for our elderly parents) and room 307 had an older bathroom with a shower over a narrow tub. Not sure why all bathrooms have not been modernised yet, but both were in perfect working order. We received clean towels and bedding by using the card provided. We enjoyed the breakfast and it was typical of what you can expect in an Italian hotel with croissants, bacon, scrambled eggs, cold meats, cheese, yoghurt, fruit salad, juices, warm drinks and cereals. We had to check out early as our train left at 7:26 and we were able to grab breakfast just before 7am. We enjoyed our stay.

The roof top restaurant was nice, but expensive compared to other options on the vicinity.
