We loved this hotel! The staff were so friendly, the room was spotless, the bathroom modern, the Japanese futon beds extremely comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and I've never had so many items supplied in the room. We were given a snack on returning to the hotel one afternoon and a bag of souvenir snacks when we left. The location was also really good, just a 7 minute walk from the station. It was a fantastic experience to stay in a proper Japanese hotel. We booked it because of the high rating on booking.com, even though it is only 2 star and were not disappointed. Thoroughly recommend it.

Amazing! What a cute little hotel. The interior had a vintage design and our room even had a retro (working) telephone. The rooms were very clean, spotless and the bathroom had a shine. Some of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed at. The amenities are great, they even had Shiseido face cleansers. The hotel staff was so sweet and even gave us a goodie bag full of snacks ahead of our journey. The location is great, less than five minutes from the station.

Everything was really great. If you like your accommodation in a particularly scenic location, this isn't it but it's centrally located and comfortable. The rooms are very small but have everything you need.

Really like the way the owners run the place. It is almost like staying in someone's home. The male owner makes small talk whenever he sees us and gives us useful information, like the weather forecast for the day. There were many personal touches that made the stay a happy one. The decoration of the room was more feminine and we found it very pretty. The old fashion telephone in the room actually works. In staying at the hotel, the guests take off their shoes and leave them at the entrance. They then wear the slippers provided to walk to their rooms. On the day when we returned in the rain back to the inn, the owner, without us knowing, helped to dry our shoes. The next day, we had dry shoes to walk in. Very grateful.

The owner sent directions on how to get to the place before we checked in. However, we had some trouble locating the place as there was not sign in English outside to indicate the property. A sign of some sort would have been helpful. To get food, one has to go to the JR station area. We were not aware of any convenience store nearby.

The staff were so kind. They gave me a goodie bag of Japanese treats when I left, which was really thoughtful and I enjoyed them a lot. Everything was great. The location was so near the train station and fish market and a tram stop to get to the fortress. There is a place next door that I think has music gigs of local bands for the young people of Hakodate. You can't hear any noise at all, so don't worry about that, but I wish I had known sooner as it would have been cool to go to one of them. The futon was very comfortable with a thick duvet and electric blanket. There was a fridge in the room. They provided a yukata, which was a surprise at this price. Everything was cleaned regularly. There is a shared sento bath, and this is where you can have a shower.

Great hospitality! It was raining on our check out day. He went extra mile by sending us to JR Station & sent us off with goodie bags. Location is close to JR station & on the quiet area. Thoughful, he sent detail location with picture so that easier for us to find it. Will happily stay here again in the future trip.

May not suitable for light sleeper because can hear people walking in the corridor from the room. Just for info, rooms are on 2nd floor, no lift but owner/staff will help to carry it.

Super nice and accommodating hosts. My room got upgraded for free to include a private bathroom, and they worked hard at small touches like providing fresh towels and kimono daily. They also gave me gifts and treats at check out, and we genuinely so sweet. The location is close to the train station and the morning market, and basically halfway in between Mt. Hakodate observatory and the large park, so you’re well situated for tourism activities. The inn itself is on the older side and doesn’t feel modern, but if you don’t care about stylish this is the best choice you can make!

We recently stayed at this hotel and was captivated by the enchanting Japanese-style room. The traditional decor, including tatami mats, created a serene and authentic atmosphere. The room was impeccably clean, and the futon bed provided a comfortable sleep. The hotel staff were courteous and helpful, and the location was convenient. Very short distance from the JR station, reasonable price, fully equipped cozy Japanese style room, amazing decoration,kind staff:) (their English are pretty good 🫡 I even got a present when I checked out 😭 Thank you so much! This is my favourite hotel in Hokkaido🥺❤️It’s a pity that I only spent one day in Hakodate, if I have the chance to travel to Hokkaido again, I will definitely book it again. I felt very welcome as soon as I arrived. The owner had provided a detailed description of how to reach the inn beforehand which made it super easy to find. The location of the property is excellent, only about 5min walking distance from Hakodate station. The room was clean and had everything I needed and the bath was very relaxing. If I'm back in Hakodate, I'll definitely stay at Pension Puppy Tail again!

Very friendly owner who speaks English well. Located in the vicinity of the JR Hakodate train station, where streetcar and bus stops are located. Good combination of Japanese- and Western-style rooms and bath. The room was spacious, the futon beds were comfy. We even got a little present when checking out!

View on the petrol station is not the best.
