+ The best thing about the room which is seldom found in other hotels is that it has its own laundry machine which is free for use. A huge plus for travelers who don't need to take time aside from their trip in order to dedicate some hours into washing their dirty clothes. + Nice and fast wifi, with a dedicated signal server on each of the floors. + From the 17th floor of the hotel, the view of Hakodate was wonderful and their lounging area was nicely modern and relaxing, with a nice bonus of having a free, hot beverage dispensing machine as well. + A pleasant outdoor spa atop of the hotel to wash away the day's weariness. + Location is within spitting distance of the Hakodate morning market and train station.

- During my 3-night stay, there was no bed making done by the cleaning crew, which I'm assuming this has to do with some sort of Covid guideline restrictions which the hotel is enforcing. Having said that though, not having a nice set of fresh sheets every night for this type of upscale hotel was kinda off-putting.

Great breakfast at the local breakfast market, excellent idea to give guests the authentic experience. Onsen on the roof with superb view over the harbor and city is unforgettable experience as well.

The only downside was the provided clothing for onsen/sleeping. It is made out of polyester, what makes it uncomfortable, plain cotton one would work much better. Or Yukata (for onsen).

September 2023

Tokyu Stay Hakodate Asaichi Akarinoyu was an excellent hotel in Hakodate for our 5 night stay in September 2023. It was fairly close to the Railway Station (we flew to Hakodate from Tokyo and got the Airport Transfer Bus to Hakodate JR Station). You could roll your suitcases from the Station to the hotel. It's maybe about 600 m. It is a tall Hotel building (18 storeys tall), with two dark-painted floors visible at the top, so it's easy to see where you are heading. It was rainy when we arrived at the Station so we got a taxi (600 yen), but walked with our luggage to the Station when leaving Hakodate at the end of our stay. We had a room on one of the higher floors (13th floor) and had lovely views up to Mt Hakodate, beautiful both day and night, and water views to both sides of the city area. It was a short walk to the very lively Morning Market, famous for its seafood. There is also an excellent coffee shop in a part of the Morning Market. It was about 600 m walk to the closest tram stop (Hakodate Ekimae). There is a Post Office including Post Office Bank near this tram stop and there are ATMs there that work with overseas issued travel cards. There is a very close Lawsons Convenience store near the Hotel. The hotel itself is very new, both inside and outside. The in-room washer-dryer is an absolute game changer for people like us, travelling for about 4 weeks. We only used the wash-rinse-spin part of the machine, and not the drying part. We found the clothes dried overnight in the bathroom without using the dryer. You can do a regular wash (not use the dryer) and that takes about 37 minutes. You can also do a shortened wash (not use the dryer) and that takes about 27 minutes. Presumably they are cold water washes. Washing liquid is provided. Make sure you go up to the 17th Floor Lounge at night to view the city lights from comfortable chairs. There is also a press-button coffee machine up there for a free coffee. Check-in and check-out were efficient.

It's always tricky travelling in Japan for a long time with medium-sized suitcases. So, like most hotels, there's not really room to open out the luggage. However, there was space to easily store closed-up suitcases under the shelf, opposite the bed. The room itself and the bathroom were spacious enough.

Location is near to the seaside port, and we have a port-view from the bathtub! It's also within walking distance to the JR train station. There's a morning wet market just right downstairs of the hotel. The rooftop public onsen (hot spring bath) and its facilities were great for a night soak. We love Tokyu Stay esp with the spacious room, washer+dryer machine, mini fridge, and microwave provided. Beds were also clean and comfy. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful; Check-in/out was a breeze too.

The WC was separated from the wash basin and shower area. Some weird stain marks spotted on the table top, which it could be done better.

A relatively spacious nice room with ensuite bathroom plus access to hot bath on the top floor and a lounge high up with good views. Convenient location for the fish market and sightseeing. Walking distance to JR rail station.

Their rules are so strict but I suppose this is typical of Japan. You arrived at 2:45pm, there were 3-4 receptionists with nothing to do, and they would tell you check-in time was 3pm (even though it was pouring down with rain outside). Even so, they could at least do the paperwork while it was quiet but they would tell you to return later. Then at 3pm, there was an enormous queue of people to check-in before they did the paperwork, ending up getting the room key near to 4pm. Lesson learnt, go and have afternoon tea and do not go there when check-in has just started.

The place seemed very new and the facilities were lovely. The room was less cramped than many similarly priced or more expensive rooms I've stayed in while in Japan. The 17th floor lounge boasted a great view and the onsen on the top floor was great for unwinding. The ice cream shop in the lobby was a novel bonus and the location 5 min. walk from JR Hakodate and right next to the morning market were spot on.

There was a mixup and we were given a room with two twin beds pushed together rather than a queen. By the time the front desk caught the error it was 10pm and our baby was asleep (thankfully he didn't fall in the crevice between the beds), so switching rooms was no longer an option. They also gave me some Hokkaido love coupons at check in but I was asked to return them. Apparently those were also for another guest. I was rather disappointed by the twin errors.

This hotel is conveniently located near the JR station, where we can take buses and trams to all major places within the city and take a train to a national park 30 minutes away. The hotel is right in the neighborhood of the morning market. It helps to have a washing machine in the room, after several days on the road.

The only thing I dislike is that the washing basin is very low. I think the height is good for primary school students but uncomfortable for adults higher than 155cm.

The room was very clean and had toiletries available if you forgot to pack them. The bathroom is a bit small, but adequate. The staff was great and very accommodating, holding our bags after we checked out until we were ready to leave for our next destination. The location is good with about a ten minute walk to the train station and bus terminal. It is also not too far from the Red Brick Warehouse area and maybe a 20 minute walk to the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway. The area though does feel very empty after the markets close.

Amazing place to stay especially given the value. Great location close to the station and opposite the morning seafood market. Room was small but this is expected for most hotels in Japan and we had a beautiful view of the city outside. Amenities and house keeping were very good. The hotel had a voucher system that you could purchase for a meal at the seafood market which was a nice discount. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooftop onsen was beautiful. Would highly recommend staying here if you're in Hakodate.
