The hostel is located in the heart of Gion district, making it so easy to explore the area. It’s also not a far walk from bus stops and the subway station. Lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. I stayed in the female dorm and the bunks were quite spacious and comfortable. All spaces were clean, the showers worked well and the shower stalls were fully private, the kitchen had everything you needed. The staff were very welcoming, happy to answer any questions, and assist you with anything you need. A special thank you to Hiro-san for making my stay so memorable! She is so kind, funny, and friendly, I had the best time chatting with her!

The dorm room and bunks can get a bit stuffy

- you get a traditional Ryokan experience with tatami, futon, sliding doors, etc. - prices are very reasonable, especially given how expensive most hotels in Kyoto are. We booked our own room instead of using the dorms. - room comes equipped with a heater/Aircon unit - staff clean diligently and take good care of the property. They're also very friendly and helpful - great location right in the middle of Gion, steps away from Yasaka shrine and close to Kiyomizudera.

- the building is old, so the insulation is unfortunately quite bad. We were freezing cold on many of the nights even with the heater unit since it's mounted high and we were sleeping low to the ground. - we requested extra blankets, which they kindly provided us with, however these blankets appear to not be part of their regular laundry rotation? There were hairs and other things stuck in these. - not sure how often the floor cushions get washed but they felt a little grimy

Huge comfortable room (we’ve got room for 4 people with private bathroom and shower), friendly stuff, smoking area right near the entrance, great view from the window. Everything was clean. Main street of Gion disctrict is 5 minutes away by walk. And if you go through Yasaka Shrine — you’ll find konbinis, cafes, shops in also 5-7 minutes walk only.

We arrived by taxi, but walk with huge suitcases might be hard for some people because it’s based on a hill. Again we didn’t face this issue, but keep this in mind while planning the route

Location was incredible! Staff were really friendly - they made origami for our 5- and 1-year-olds, and we were never made to feel unwelcome for bringing our kids to such a special and peaceful place. The rooms were functional but beautiful. The common area was a nice escape, and we ate several dinners (from the nearby 7-11!) and breakfasts in the dining area, knelt around a table. Thank you, Q-beh, for allowing us to stay somewhere we never would have been able to afford otherwise!

It was quite cold (unseasonably so) during our stay, but we wrapped up warm so it wasn't too bad. There were air-conditioners in the room, which made things better (but dry) and the common area upstairs was roasting! The kitchen area was sometimes a bit cold, but that's really nitpicking.

A very cozy hostel experience with lovely atmosphere, felt like an experience. To me it was a nice bonus that coffee and tea were avalaible. As I stayed for a week, they changed the sheets after three days which to me is a service beyond the cost of this place. Others guests were also very nice. The location prime for sightseeing as it is in the very touristy Gion area. However, by sleeping there one is able to easily enjoy the atmosphere of the streets during less busy hours e.g. when walking home after dinner or on a morning stroll.

No complaints!

The traditional style of the place is the main advantage. Best way to learn local culture. There was a kitchen with coffee, tea, the dishes, microwave, cooker, kettle. You can spend time with others in a common room upstairs. In the hotel there are available free yukatas, ear plugs. We could do a laundry (100 yen) + drying (100 yen). We were allowed to leave our baggage before check-in and after check-out in a special room (monitored). Everything was clean and comfortable.

Stairs are quite wild (steep and high) when you have a heavy suitcase. The localization is in the center but far from the main station - you need to take a bus that is pretty crowded There is no breakfast but you can eat in a restaurant or buy food in a convenience store

Literally in the middle of Gion. Can’t get any more central location than this. Few steps away from Kodaiji and a little more to Yasaka Shrine. Even though it is in the middle of Gion, it is in a more quiet part of Gion thus it is very peaceful and gets very quiet at night. The location features 2 common spaces: one for eating with a shared kitchen and the other is a tatami room on the 3rd floor overlooking the garden and the hillside. There a couple of washing machines and dryers outside. The room was medium sized but the beds were huge, one of the biggest out of all the hostels I’ve stayed at in Japan. There is no lockers but your bed comes with a small table with a lockable compartment. The mattress was not too thick but comfortable enough. There are plenty of showers and toilets around the hostel so there is enough for everyone.

Distance from nearest train station, Gion-Shijo is quite far. About 15-20 min walk and is uphill. Konbinis are also quite far away about 10 mins walk downhill. There is a beautiful garden but as of now it is not open to guests. The bed curtain however have huge gaps so there people can see inside quite easily.

We absolutely loved staying at Q-beh Ryokan. It was clean, cosy and well equipped. If you want to live the full experience of sleeping in a ryokan in gorgeous Gion geisha and shrine neighbourhood, definitely choose to stay here. Just 2 blocks from Yasaka shrine and just around the corner of most outstanding lovely streets of Gion. Also 2 blocks from city bus stop to roam around the city easily. I was a bit sceptical about sleeping in a ryokan but honestly my back felt quite relieved after resting there, specially after walking around 10 km per day. The price is also very convenient for a weekend and you can have access to a very nicely equipped kitchen to even cook your own meals- lovely Gion restaurants are also just 10 min walk.

The showers were powered by a button you need to press after some seconds which made washing my hair a bit uncomfortable but it’s literally the only con I could find about the place.

I love that you're in the heart of Gion and there are so many shrines, popular streets and areas to explore. I also really enjoy staying in a single room with a tatami floor and a very comfortable futon and pillow. Facilities are very clean and instructions for everything are very clear. The staff are also great and very helpful if you need anything! Nice to have a communal kitchen as well.

I don’t have much to say about what I don’t like as the property itself was pretty amazing; we only found that others staying at Q-beh were less respectful of quiet hours/being loud earlier morning and into the evening.

The hostel is right in the heart of old Kyoto which is lovely - busy in the day and calm in the night. All of the facilities are super clean - rooms, toiletts, showers.

Since we slept in the hostel, noone turned on an AC on the first night and it was so cold (November), the second night someone did and it was much better! Also have in mind that there's quite a lot of people (ryokan+hostel) and you can hear a lot in the night. Not only from your room. So I guess your experience really depends on the people you share it with.
