The food was absolutely amazing! The staff was incredible! This was a highlight of our trip! The entrance is right next to Yasaka shrine. GPS doesn’t have exactly the right location and if you don’t know what you’re looking for you might miss it. See the picture of the outside for reference!

The ryokan experience was great!
We were a bit shocked to know that the drinks during dinner are paid separately. If the dinner is included, one would expect to include drinks. The ryokan is not cheap, I think the value we paid for should be enough for a couple of drinks during dinner, it made no sense to not be included.

Friendly, helpful staff. Incredible food. Yuzu juice in the morning gets the motor running!
Noise from street. It would be great to have slippers that didn’t slip off.

I thought the variety of food that they provided was all delicious. I believe they have a rotating menu daily, and every breakfast meal I had was exceptional and delicious. The location was very nice since it was right next to a big temple and a popular shopping area. The bus stop was only a few minutes walk from the entrance to this ryokan which was really convenient!
I had wished that there were clearer instructions on how to find the ryokan. I'm sure that if you knew how to read Japanese, you would have been able to find it pretty easily, but for foreigners who don't know any Japanese, it was a little difficult. I wish I had taken pictures of the front entrance for future guests.

The bountiful mutli-plate breakfast was overwhelming and charming. the location for meals was gorgeous and I loved the yukata and sandal dress code. I was nervous at first about sleeping "on the floor" but the mattress, pillows, and duvet were very comfortable. was grateful for the "modern" bathroom facilities. highly recommend trying this type of hotel at least once in Japan. Yasaka shrine is literally next door and the hotel grounds are lovely.
I did correspond a few times about breakfast and dietary but had to remind the front desk again upon arrival. I am 178cm 5'9" and banged my head on the doors so many times! this is my fault not the hotel's but tall people, beware! we did not know how to use the complimentary tea set, again my issue not the hotel.

We had a wonderful experience at the Yuzuya Ryokan. The establishment has an authentic charm that takes us on a journey into Japanese culture. Everything is luxury, calm and voluptuousness. The Japanese-style rooms are pleasant and comfortable with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Common places are attractive and aesthetic, particularly the bath which allows you to try Japanese culture in yuzu-flavored water. Regarding gastronomy, we had a Japanese dinner and breakfast, we were not disappointed. The dishes are delicate, refined and elegantly presented. Despite our different culinary habits (notably savory breakfast is not in our culture), we were pleasantly surprised by this meal and it was an authentic experience. The staff is very helpful, smiling, attentive to our expectations to ensure that we have a pleasant stay at the yuzuya ryokan. I will definitely stay there again during a new trip to Kyoto.

What a great experience--spending the night in a traditional Japanese inn. We slept on futons on the floor, and experienced a private onsen communal bath. Luckily, I was the only one at the time. There were only 8 rooms and 10 guests. I went with my 44 year old daughter. We wore Japanese outfits that were in the room and wore Japanese pj's that were in the room. I paid extra for a traditional Japanese dinner (which my daughter didn't want to try) and watched a Japanese chef serve 8 small courses and cook in a hot pot. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast that was a feast. It was so much fun and a great way to start our Kyoto stay. I was disappointed that I didn't get to stay in the same Ryoken that my niece had stayed in, but was thrilled with this second choice which I can highly recommend. The Ryoken is build around a Japanese atrium garden that has running water and beautiful foliage. I loved this property. It truly was the highlight of our trip to Japan and really gives the flavor of the culture of traditional Japanese life. Thank you, Booking.Com for alerting me to this Ryoken. Thank you, fellow reviewers for recommending this Ryoken. I would say this was a real winner.
No criticisms.

The property is a traditional inn and bath house that maintains a natural elegance. I loved the look and feel of the quiet semi-private atmosphere Yuzuya cultivated. The Kaiseki dinner was one of the best meal experiences I have had. Even when compared to Michelin star restaurants. Both in room private baths and the onsen baths were exactly what I expected. A mix of true relaxation and unique luxury. The staff was very friendly and patient with all of our questions. They were even kind enough to hold our bags after we checked out just so we could walk to a museum without all our luggage.
I have absolutely nothing I disliked. From start to finish Yuzuya was a perfect experience.

Yuzuya ryokan provides an authentic traditional Japanese experience in a great location in Kyoto. The beautiful tranquil courtyard garden sets the scene, the rooms are lovely with tatami mats where the bed will be set up and a yukata - summer kimono - is provided to wear to dinner and breakfast. The meals are truly amazing - both dinner and breakfast were delicious banquets. The staff are so welcoming and obliging. Highly recommend!
