Easy walking distance from Kyoto station where most of the transport, and a lot of food and shopping options are located. Quiet surroundings. Front staff were lovely. There were a quite a few washing machines but they were still sadly snapped up quickly. We did one load of light clothing and needed to add 30min drying time.

When we asked about making a reservation for breakfast, the staff told us the next morning was heavily booked which meant likely a 30-40min wait for breakfast. It was kind of them to warn us but the organisation of breakfast seemed a bit counterintuitive. It also felt like our linen wasn’t changed after the 2nd day like they said they would.

Very clean and modern hotel, great value for money

The location is not great, it’s close to the train station but far from all the touristy stuff

This is a lovely hotel, starting from the impressive entrance, and the soothing fragrance and background music that plays. The hotel looks to be relatively new and is well-appointed. We had booked for a number of nights and were lucky to be upgraded but based on a peek into the room type we had originally booked, this also looked very good. The beds were very comfortable and we appreciated the blackout blinds to aid sleep and the ability to check whether washing machines were in use from our TV. The location is great. It’s a short walk from the train station and there are convenience stores and places to eat nearby. Overall, we loved our stay and were sorry to leave!

The only thing that was slightly disappointing for us (and the many positives of this hotel far outweigh this experience) was the somewhat lacklustre service at the restaurant on the night we had dinner there.

Located on the quiet but sane south of Kyoto station, but conveniently close to JR, Kintetsu and subway lines. Breakfast was delicious though the box set was cold, which may not be to the liking of some. Being able to check the laundry and communal bath status on the in-room TV was really convenient. Overall a good relaxing stay.

We stayed for 5 nights and the room while big, was not ideally designed for stays of more than 2 nights. There were no shelves or drawers for us to organize our items during the stay. One of the senior staff at the restaurant had a rather gruff manner, but overall impression of the team was very positive.

The best location for the Kyoto tour! It's just a few minutes walk from Kyoto station. A convenience store is on a corner, and lots of restaurants are inside the station buildings. The building is by modern Japanese design. We liked a big shared bath. The room is big enough for us (2 adults + toddler), and the bathroom and toilet are separate. There is no proper working desk and chair. The lobby and rooms are accessible, it was smooth with a baby stroller.

The room we chose was big enough with a small luggage and a short stay, but if you have a big one or stay here longer you may feel it's a small room. No space to open big luggage, and the closet is small.

Property was very fancy for the price bracket. Room was big and roomy with two beds. The bathroom was very modern and stylish with a separate area for bathtub and showering area. We love how there was a small sitting area with table and chairs for breakfast. The TV also had SMART phone mirroring for Apply and Android, which was fantastic that we could Airplay YouTube videos or music. Luggage transfer was also made efficiently with the receptionists. Do remember to bring cash for your luggage transfer as they only accept cash (which is the same practice for any other hotels in Tokyo/Kyoto). We didn’t try the communal bath, but the fact that this hotel has this added service as part of their long suite of services is indeed WOW!

It would be better to have more hooks in the bathroom for my clothes and towel. There were insufficient places to hang them and it was freezing when I had to open the showering door to grab my towel from outside. My group opted for “Limited Housekeeping” which means that the bed wouldn’t be made. However, when we came back, we saw that the bed was made. Though I appreciate the thoughtfulness, we had opted for “Limited Housekeeping” as we have left items on the bed, which might have been inconvenient (eg items dropping off accidentally) if the housekeeper made the bed.

Location = very convenient location, near train stations, department store with Don Quijote and convenient stores. Room and facilities = Very spacious, love the room and how they design the layout. Communal bathhouse (Sentō) also great, perfect to warm yourself from the cold weather. Staff and services = Great and very friendly.

Laundry machines are quite popular here so it'd be great if they can have at least 2 in each floor from 5th floor upward.

the room is great, especially the bathroom. the hotel also has washing machine and vending machine on the floor i am staying at very nice. the location of the hotel is near Kyoto Station which is great The hotel staff were also very helpful in assisting me in the booking of a restaurant.

The Room is great and i really like it, i find it weird that the room seems to lack in hooks for you to hang your clothes, You see we went there during the winter and some clothes can't dry using machine as such you had to hang dry them, i would recommend adding 2 or more hooks in the room for the guest to hang the clothes using the hangers available.

5 minute walk from Kyoto station, check in was a breeze! Room was big enough for 3 beds so was great for our 3yr old. Breakfast was great, not a huge variety but certainly enough and it was delicious. It also included decent coffee and tea selection. There was an onsen also which was a surprise to us, I prefer an outdoor bath but it was very nice. The TV tells you how busy the onsen is, if the dryers and washers are being used etc so was very convenient. Staff were great, very friendly and warm 😀. Beds were very comfortable and the pillows perfect for us.

The only TINY thing I would point out is the lift ALWAYS stopped on level 3, reception, before going upto our level. Not sure if it was me doing something wrong or if that's how the elevator is programmed 🤷

The Rihga Gran hotel is an excellent place to stay close to the Kyoto train station. We stayed 5 nights, using it as a jumping off point for day trips using our JR pass. The hotel is 2 blocks from the train station on the quiet side. This hotel is a nice mix of both western and Japanese styles. Bathrooms are Japanese (soaking tub, stool shower) with western toilets and beds. We seleted this hotel because it offered Japanese public baths, which we love. Rooms were small by western standards (suitcases had to stay closed), but didn't feel cramped. Hotel staff were accomodating. I loved the fact that you could monitor the use of washing machines on the TV to know when they were going to be available. Didn't have breakfasts so can't comment on food. Kyoto train station must have 100 restaurants including a whole floor dedicated to Ramen! These were often branches of the most famous restaurants in Kyoto. So that's where we ate.

Pillows were feather. When we asked for something hyperallergenic they could only accomodate one of us.
