Great location, beautiful surrounding atmosphere, great staff. Most friendly and helpful receptionist and staff ever, lovely and great first impression of hotel. Everything about the hotel was exceptional. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in where we had dinner. Food was good and great value for money and service was attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I was very pleased with my stay. I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.

The location is excellent - near the castle but close to food and shops. The dinners were both fantastic - the food fresh and interesting. The staff is very helpful and very keen to make sure your stay is perfect. The Onsen facilities are excellent.

The Onsen was being renovated so there was restricted availability. We had not been warned of this before hand. We also tried to communicate with the hotel before our arrival to organise a transfer from the train but the hotel did not respond to emails.

The provided room wear was particularly lovely, looking back, I wish I'd have bought some from the shop downstairs! And the bed was the most comfortable bed ever! We loved Matsumoto in general so much that we didn't get a chance to try the hotel food but will definitely try next time! The hotel seemed to be very tourist-friendly and the staff spoke great English! Make sure to shop around at the little frog-street market that's right on the hotel doorstep!

The only reason I haven't scored this hotel higher was because it was all very professionally run and just lacked that extra personal touch in my opinion. Other than that, I can't really fault it.

-antique-looking sitting area -japanese and western fusion dinner, very delicious shinshu beef and caramel green cake dessert! Waiters were warm to offer more information about the meal. -less than 5mins walk to matsumoto castle. We were told about the free night sakura at the castle by the staff. We still have time to hop by after dinner to enjoy the night. -less than 5mins walk to nakamachi and old shopping alley -12mins walk to city museum of art (mastuomoto is a compact city so we walked to everywhere, leaving our rental car in the hotel)

-small onsen with many guests. need to queue up to bathe! (first such encounter for me) -no free parking, about 880yen (not surprised tho) -room looks a bit dated. (main building. they have an annex)

the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The location great. The hotel is very japnese, by that the breakfast and japanese bath facilities (one for woman and one for men). there is a great gift shop with local craft.

for me the big minus is that you have to be ready for breakfast (very traditional japanese) before 9 on a Sunday morning which frankly is too early for a weekend stay. but the biggest minus was the lack of power outlets. With 3 gadgets you rely heavily on, it simply became a problem. The decor is very outdated, but it is charming at the same time. It almost felt like going a bit back in time in Britain.

The initial room assigned at annex smell bad due to toilet ventilation is not working. Fortunately after feedback to the receptionist and checked by him the condition of the room, he managed to change another room for us. Will rate based on the second room. Consider an upgrade with more spacious room and separate toilet, bathroom and wash basins were a plus. Location is great as just 5 min walk to Matsumoto castle.

Good size rooms which were very clean. Large bathroom with shower and deep bath. Pajamas, slippers, hairdryer, kettle and bathroom sundries (toothbrush, razor, shower gel, etc) provided. Valuables safe and fridge provided. Comfortable bed. Wide choice of food for breakfast in spacious good quality dining room. Bathhouse available for guests on the lower level. Very helpful staff. Ideal location for visiting Matsumoto Castle and shopping district.

My only criticism, and it is a very small one, was the the cupboard door which housed the fridge had a broken hinge.

Location was very good, being near Matsumoto Castle and the main shopping/ restaurant areas. The staff were helpful and friendly. The courtesy shuttle bus back to the station was a bonus as the timings worked for us.

Room quite small and was made worse by having far too much furniture. Bathroom design was dated and needs an update. Room booked with a terrace, which looked lovely in the photos, but in reality the view was not as attractive.

the hotel is located near the Matsumoto castle and many eateries. the building looks new and the reception area also looks very nice. but the Japanese style standard room that we stayed looked aged with peeling wallpaper. it was nice to have an onsen within the hotel. However, the water in the onsen was cooler in temperature than our first try, which we are not sure why. Just be careful at the women’s shower area of the onsen as the floor feels soapy and slippery. parking is nearby the hotel as it is not possible to park just outside the hotel itself. the hotel has a little cafe and shop too.

onsen not hot enough and the floor of the shower area at the women onsen feels slippery and soapy. also don’t like the fact that the washing machine and dryer were located at the escape staircase on 3rd floor (which is outside the building) and can only used till 8pm.

The staff was kind and helpful whenever we needed it. The room was nice with a comfortable bed and warm futon cover, which is important in winter. The breakfast was a ticket system that is handed over by the front desk staff on check-in and defaults to a Japanese-style breakfast buffet but you can switch to a set meal at the cafe if you wish, just ask the front desk 24 the day before. The decor of the common areas was very nice as well.

The breakfast buffet was busy when we visited so some food items were gone or took a while to be replenished.
