Beautiful, scenic, and historic onsen ryokan hotel nestled in the mountains. The ryokan retains an authentic and genuine atmosphere. Meals are lovely too, and prepared with care and attention to detail. There are beautiful hikes around the property too, and the three onsen facilities are absolutely stunning!

The property is perfect.

This place is right out of a fairytale. It is serene, beautiful and very decadent. The onsens were absolutely beautiful, the food delicious and the staff very helpful.

I can’t fault anything

The authenticity, and the beauty of the hot springs/bath houses.

Everyone was very nice, but I wish the staff spoke better English. Also, a proper explanation about the hot spring etiquette would have been nice

The location is beautiful, the room was extremely relaxing, the baths and food were amazing. A person speaking English well seemed to have been responsible for me, and I felt comfortable asking him all of my questions, as this was my first experience of anything similar. I could use the baths although I have large tattoos. Could get there completely by public transport - although note that one of the buses runs on a different schedule than what google maps believes. The baths are not very large, so perhaps one should read beforehand on the expected behavior.

As the place is old, a large spider appeared at some point in the room, but that seems inevitable.

It was so beautiful! It is a bit remote, but thats exactly what we liked about it! It lies in a nice valley, that in december was a bit snowy. Ofcourse, the very traditional building was so sophisticated and beautiful, but even though it felt such high end (and it is!), we felt comfortable there. It was easy to relax, the Onsen are amazing and beautiful. Very kind staff as well, they spoke english. The food was exceptional as well. One of us was vegetarian, we let them know beforehand and it was no problem. Would recommend at least 2 night stays. The price for the value you get is exceptional.

This is the nicest developed hot spring I have been to anywhere in the world.

Nothing, absolutely perfect.

The location was excellent - deep in the mountains of Gunma. I chose this onsen because I wanted to stay in a remote location off the beaten path. The ambiance of the inn is incredible, and the baths are exceptional. This inn felt like a functioning inn from the past - it is rustic, shows signs of wear, and was cold inside in winter due to lack of insulation. It felt like an authentic inn from the past. That said, these rustic qualities are not for everyone.

My room was more rustic than I expected. The doors to the rooms are shoji sliding doors made of paper. They provide absolutely zero noise insulation between the rooms and the hallway, and the guests in neighboring rooms. This means you can hear your neighbors coughing, farting, snoring, etc. The walls are also very thin. This means that you may be disturbed if your neighbors are not respectful. Luckily my Japanese neighbors were respectful and quiet. My room showed signs of wear. The tatami hadn't been replaced in some time and the walls were scuffed and showed signs of wear. Do not book this inn if you expect a luxurious ryokan experience.

Exceptional & best onsen experience at the heritage onsen bath. All 3 public onsen are beautifully crafted in old wood and very well maintained with their original status. Having visited many onsen in Japan, their largest bath was truly something that I would never forget. It's also very nice that they have men/women/mix time schedule that balanced both tradition & modern needs.

Location is hard to get to without car but that's a good thing actually to keep this place exceptional. If there are more softer / lower pillow choices other than the traditional pillows it would be better.

Perfect mix of authentic time period and modern comforts. They also have rooms that are older and more authentic with less modern comforts. The food and staff were all amazing. Specifically they went out of their way for my wife and I even though we didn't speak Japanese. They had someone go to the train station ( 40 minutes away ) to exchange our tickets for a later time. There were also numerous staff with excellent English... This is not common this far out and was very appreciated. Plenty of walking and the grounds are beautiful... Lastly. The Onsen... Amazing. My favorite was the outdoor one. Though they all were very clean and relaxing.
