The location is great if you're planning to spend a lot of time in Akihabara. Really central and less than 5 minutes walk from the train station. Room is super clean and well priced and there's a small hotel bar/cafe if you fancy a drink at any time. Additionally, they allowed us to leave our bags at the hotel for 5 days while we went to Yokohama.

The noise didn't bother me, but you can hear trains and if you're a light sleeper then it's something to consider. Personally, I find it quite soothing as a background noise. The first room we stayed in was very narrow, I would not recommend this room. Overall we have stayed in 3 rooms at this hotel, 2 were nice sizes and really had no issues with them. The third, however, was extremely narrow and I would have liked to have known about this room in advance. I would have paid extra to get a better room or would have expected a discount because it was a bit clunky in there with suitcases. Overall, not a massive issue but in comparison to the other rooms it was a bit of a let down.

Prime location, 5 minutes from the station and in the center of Akihabara for all the tech, shops and food. For 3, the room was spacious and had everything we needed. Staff were friendly and helpful with simple instructions, including English. Also had bag drop off available if arriving early which was also very handy. The hotel also has a Bar and café which are great and convenient which offer discounts towards guests. Didn't have the opportunity to try the food at the café.

The room did feel like it lacked some basic items e.g. glasses/cups/mugs within the rooms. however all items area available in reception. The only other thing to note was the bathroom and shower are very small but still worked well. As per the name, the hotel is located under a train line as well as a fire station which we though we were prepared for and was not. Initially we were nervous about sleep but with provided ear plugs we actually didn't have too much issues, however i can imagine if you were a light sleeper it maybe an issue.

The location is excellent, its literally a 6-7min walk to Akihabara Station and other metro/subways. Lots of eating places around too, arcades, maid cafes etc. The hotel also happily kept our bags for us on the day of checkout as we had a late flight home.

The noise....wasn't so much from the railway but from the fire station right across the road. At least once per night all the sirens were going off and the echo from the viaduct just amplified this. It didnt last long but did wake the adults up once or twice. The bathroom was TINY! It was such a struggle for my husband navigate the bathroom because he's so tall.

The hotel was very centrally located to the subway station, many shops of Akihabara, and restaurants. Attached cafe and shelf of complimentary amenities like slippers, water cups, and ear plugs was appreciated.

Some beds in the room were closer to the train noise than others, and although you are amply warned of possible train traffic, it seemed to go later than midnight and started early in the morning. We also didn't know about the fire station directly across the street. All in all however, it was perfect for our family of five and had all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay!

This hotel is in the heart of Akihabara which makes it extremely convenient to transit via train or subway to anywhere in Tokyo. The room was a small size but was still very comfortable and had all the amenities necessary (I was in a room with one twin bed).

You can hear the trains pass but I found that the sound was muffled enough to have a good night sleep. If you're a light sleeper, I recommend you wear ear plugs. Trains stop running from 12am-5am so you wont hear them all night.

great location, friendly staff, clean place to stay. Hotel is as titled, under a railway, we are very heavy sleepers as a family so we didn’t mind it, it didn’t bother us at all.

as a family travelling, we had our luggage delivered to each hotel so we were not lugging it around with our toddler. all other hotels we stayed at helped us with reservations and organising it. unfortunately this hotel doesn’t have this service but it was ok because the convenience store around the corner did it and we just rolled it down there to do this. did not disrupt our stay though, it was lovely and we would still stay there again!

We had a week stay in Under railway. The location was great- nearby the JR Akihabara station and all the shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly. Reception was open until 2am. For Tokyo standards, the room was big and beds were comfortable and had great value for money. The bathroom was a bit small but it was very functional.

If you are a light sleeper I wouldn’t recommend this place. The train was really noisy from 4am to 1am; every minute there was a train passing.

After 14 hours on a plane, the very kind staff at Under Railway Hotel allowed us to check-in an hour early, which made a huge difference for our entire stay! We loved everything about it — the place is modern, looks very cool, the rooms and beds are comfortable and the bathrooms, while small, are equipped with an excellent shower. The bar area at the entrance was also a really good place to unwind after a day spent walking around the busy city. We also really appreciated that they stored our luggage for a few hours after check-out too! Everything was always clean and we loved the little extras they provided, especially the body scrubber! Lastly, after discovering that our umbrella was too heavy to carry around all day, we found out that we could easily borrow a light, transparent one from the reception, which was a great bonus. All in all, this is a place that you can tell people put great effort into. As for the sound: with my partner being a light sleeper we were a bit worried, but we shouldn’t have been; yes, the trains were loud, but the hotel very kindly provided ear plugs, and the trains stop between midnight and 5AM. If anything, we both found the sound of trains quite soothing rather than annoying.

The sound-proofing between the rooms is not great. Our room was unfortunately right next to one occupied by obnoxiously loud Americans (playing super loud music, shouting and slamming doors at midnight in a hotel where the doors have amortization!?). I am a bit deaf and usually never hear what happens in adjacent rooms, but these people I could hear perfectly clearly. However the lady at the reception was very kind and obviously did everything she could to help. That said, the hotel ought to invest in better sound-proofing between the rooms, it was too light.

The location was stellar. The beds were comfy, and while the rooms were small , they were clean, modern, and more than enough for us. The cafe at the front makes delicious coffee and excellent breakfast.

We could hear the trains above, but we knew about it beforehand. Truth be told, it did not bother me at all, the rooms were soundproof enough. However, some guests might find it bothersome. Then again, what would you expect when the hotel is literally called "under railway", haha!

Location is excellent. Price reflects the disadvantages of the hotel. Layout of beds etc all good.

The railway noise was significantly louder than expected and almost continuous. In the end it was a comforting noise to fall asleep to. There is a break from 1.30am -4.30am where no trains are running. It them becomes a bit of a shock once they begin again. Almost better if they kept going all night! Towels very small and dry so lacking any luxury.
