We loved the staff, very friendly help from Lesley, Fernanda on the front desk. Mario, Antonio on the roof and other restaurants, were all great. It took a few days for them to not be so shy, but they were all lovely. We loved that this was a small boutique hotel. Yes, the beachfront is small, but it was very relaxing compared to the monster resorts. The rooftop pool is stunning

It sometimes can feel like they prioritise day pass holders who come to the rooftop primarily. They did say they held the front row of beds on the pool for hotel guests, but a few days (not all it must be said), the day pass holders had the run of the place. There was also a private event one night on the roof that was way over the top with music and noise. They did deal with it when I called at 2am, but they should have not let it get like that in the first place. A buffet style breakfast would I think suit us better and they could be more generous with the coffee and tea at breakfast. Their current rules on 2 cups of the grim drip coffee rather than their delicious barista coffee feels a bit cheap...oh, and please start using fresh fruit juices for breakfast.

the rooms are the key of this hotel. its all about the rooms, which are absolutely beautiful, all around 65 square meter each. probably one of the best hotel rooms I’ve ever had, and I’ve travelled quite a bit. second of all, the staff is the other big + in this hotel. very polite, always smiling, always giving you their best possible service. the rooftop restaurant is a killer. dined there around 5 times and the quality of the food is top notch.

the only downside I would give is the beach, which is full of rocks and sargasses, which sworm the beach, making it difficult to enjoy the swim. you have to walk further up/down the beach to be able to swim freely without all the rocks.

Rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Staff was superb, friendly and always genuinely willing to help. Fernanda at reception was in constant contact even before we arrived (Thank you Fernanda!). For a boutique hotel the food options were good.

The breakfast area. Pool area is not typically a pool you would lounge at given it’s location. Property while boutique, is surrounded by large all inclusive hotels. There are a limited number of lounge beds on their beach and unfortunately they allow outside guests to come in and make use of their beach club, hence making it difficult (at times) for hotel guests to find a spot on the beach.

- 50% of the staff very slow and not trained properly. i really dont want to go into details here, as it is pretty disappointing for the value we paid - not consistent the amount of food at breakfast. some times the plates were topped up and some times half full... very confusing - overall good breakfast and enough to enjoy - pretty far from Playa del carmen. but that was consciously selected by us - seaweed and rocky beach was a big disappointment, as the 4 days purposely selected for a beach break. i understand that the weather is not Mvngata's fault, however, it could be easily shown on a picture, that 6 months per year there is a huge amount of seaweed right at the front of the hotel's narrow beach

The staff, the room, the food and the spa. overall I really enjoyed and loved my experience staying in this hotel.

The outdoor furniture wasn’t as clean as I expected or liked. And also didn’t like the fact that the hotel allows external people to spend a day within the facilities; Im not really into the “day pass” thing.

Directly on the beach and also has two pools. Staff were very kind and the room was amazing with a balcony and sea view. the food was also so good!

Several of the staff, in particular Ricardo, were absolutely standout. The rooftop is STUNNING and provide unbelievable views over the area. The food is exceptional and there is a very relaxed, chilled and quiet vibe about the place - perfect relaxation break and in a beautiful location nearby to Playa Del Carmen. The bedrooms are a real show-stopper. They are stunningly furnished, brand new and with some gorgeous final touches and are huge! Ad added bonus was how unbelievably comfy the king size bed was - we slept really well every single night of our holiday.

The service was at times (particularly at breakfast, and on one occasion over dinner) really slow. Staff could be more on the ball with checking in at service times as items ordered were frequently missing.

Was in Playa del Carmen for a couple of weeks relaxation & booked this hotel based on the excellent reviews elsewhere and truly it didn’t disappoint. If you are wanting to unwind in a boutique, cosy environment, with personable, attentive staff & a home-like attention to detail, this wonderful place which is relatively new, is a gem. From the extremely large and comfortable standard rooms with large balconies and spacious bathroom and shower areas, to the beach bar and dining sand covered dining area downstairs & beautiful main restaurant set up upstairs with infinity pool, the layout of the hotel means that everything is in close proximity. The food and cocktails were excellent & a step above default hotel holiday resort food, although there is something for everyone. A taxi into playa del Carmen takes only twenty minutes but if you can’t get enough of walking and explore the beach and ocean, this place is absolutely perfect. But the main thing to take away from the experience at Mvngata was the service & relaxing vibe there, which is exactly what was required. From the welcome margarita to the final dinner and cocktail there, it was a personal experience with staff who are attentive, warm, friendly and welcoming. Thanks Antonio, EK, Ricky, Luigui, Juan, Olivia, Hector, Moises, JC, Daniel, Ismael, Nefi, Guillermo, Carlos, Mario and anyone else who helped make the time here a bit more special. Was a real treat and looking forward to seeing you guys again!

- brand new luxury property with amazing facilities like infinity pool - friendly and welcoming staff - spacious and designer styled rooms

- drive up to the hotel goes through a sketchy area with poor road condition - rooftop infinity pool needs cleaning - food at both rooftop bar and restaurant was very bad. we returned two dishes cuz it was impossible to eat them (artichoke and octopus)

We had an exceptional 5 night stay at MVNGATA. The delux beachview room was spacious, super clean and extremely comfortable. The facilities were perfect for our stay. My daughter loved her time in the pool which feels like you’re swimming in an oasis in the jungle right on the beach. The variety of restaurants were great for the time we were there. Great views from the rooftop too. Prices are UK prices, so not a place where you’ll eat for a fiver like in Thailand. So costs can definitely add up, quickly. The best part of the stay were the staff. They made us feel welcome and accommodating right from the get-go, going above and beyond to make our stay extra special. Tania who oversees breakfast is an absolutely beautiful soul with her team Marco(cito) and Mario starting our day off with warm smiles and superior service. Carlos and Roberto keeping us hydrated and comfortable on the beach 🏝️ and Mathieu and Kin guiding us on all things playa del Carmen. Thank you for welcome us with open arms to such a beautiful oasis. Can’t wait to visit again.

The beach was the only negative, hence the 4 stars as it’s a rocky beach which you can’t swim in. But just a short stroll down the coast and there’s plenty enough sea to indulge in.
