We liked the hosts, they were very friendly and English speaking. The house was very clean and quiet. Corner store nearby. The beds were comfy. The room was nice with AC. The coffee was good. There was a small swimming pool you could use to cool down.

I liked everything, but there is always room for improvement. Breakfast was a bit monotonous with scrambled eggs every day. More bread could be served for people who are not an egg lovers. There could be some paper, a pen and little helpful things in the room, like glasses for a drink.

Variety of meal offerings each day. Recommend for vegetarians. The organic coffee was perfect to start the day each morning poolside. The taste was so rich that it didn’t require cream. Ambient music at breakfast was a nice addition. Juan and Lulu were genuinely interested in the quality of our experience and made sure we had everything we needed. Very home-like, yet not intrusive with regard to privacy.

At times, the water in the shower wasn’t overly hot if you are one who prefers to be scalded. However, in a climate with high temps like Mérida, scalding showers are likely uncommon. This is a small thing. The water pressure was fantastic! Water temp did not deter from my experience overall.

The B&B is a calm island in vicinity of the historical city center with extremely kind and helpful hosts. Every morning awaits you with a tasty breakfast and the small pool cools you down when the city heat hits.

You need to ring the main door and wait for the host to open when you come home. While this works very smoothly, more privacy could be achieved e.g. with an automatic lock / code panel. Also, all apartments are facing the courtyard and there are no real private outdoor areas. It is essential to be respectful and quite, which is no problem per se but maybe a challenge for more outgoing people.

B&b run by husband and wife. Very good host. Organised a private taxi with English speaking driver, who was more like guide. Worked out cheaper then a tour. Could stop where we wanted for drink or snack. Took two trips. Good breakfast, different each day. Large bed. Hot water and good shower. Need to let the water run for a bit. TV but we didn’t watch anything.

No Wi-Fi in the room had to sit outside to get a signal. First we thought it was strange that all the rooms had chairs outside but soon found out why. Very small pool. Around the pool area is small you do feel bit top of one another.

We felt like family at Casa Akbal. My wife and I booked a four-night stay at Casa Akbal because of the reviews, and have already booked our second stay due to our wonderful experience there with Juan and Lulu. Casa Akbal offers clean, comfortable rooms in a beautiful home, with delicious homemade breakfasts, organic Chiapas coffee, a pool, and close proximity to all things walkable in the Santiago neighborhood (barrio) and beyond. There is an Oxxo a few doors down, which is perfect for grabbing water and snacks before exploring. Juan and Lulu are very kind and hospitable. We’ve been house-hunting in Mérida, and they shared valuable information about the neighborhoods of the homes we’ve been viewing, and recommended great restaurants and attractions in various barrios to visit. We are looking forward to our next stay at Casa Akbal! Rich & Kim

This is a lovely place with a small pool and very artistic rooms. Juan and Lulu are extremely welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was very healthy and delicious. Sitting out by the pool with only six tables allows one to chat with other visitors while eating. I would certainly stay here again if visiting Mérida.

It is about 3,000 steps to the main plaza and while I didn’t mind walking back and forth, some might feel this is a bit far. I found Uber worked extremely well when I didn’t feel like hoofing it.

This is a very nice B&B hosted by a lovely couple - warm and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay of 3 days in Merida. It is about a 15 minute walk to the city-center which was not a problem for us. We walked to and fro daily and felt safe at all times. There is a convenience store and a restaurant right next door. Our room was neat, clean and comfortable. The hot breakfasts ( prepared by the hosts themselves ) were delicious. The place has a very homely vibe. There is a small charming pool as well ( which we did not use though ).

We enjoyed our stay. Juan was super kind and helpful. He gave us great recommendations and even picked us up late from the airport. The bed was comfortable and the ac worked well. Free purified water was a big plus. It was quiet and relaxing.

The breakfast was okay. It was nice to start the day with some simple eggs and fruit, but don’t expect restaurant quality. There were lots of mosquitos, which of course the property can’t control. It is about a 15-20 minute walk from most places in central Merida, which is not bad but very hot.

we really loved this little place, the room was large and very comfortable, the bathroom spotless, and the water pressure the best we experienced in Mexico. and the room was made up every day. Breakfast was delicious, and generous, and the pool was very welcome as it was pretty hot while we were in Mérida. our host Juan offered helpful suggestions and advice.

Great stay at Casa Akbal! Nice hosts, having lots of tips of what to see and how to get there. They also greatly helped me out when I nearly missed my tour. Wifi works good, airco works good, which is a must with 30+ celsius. The location is close to the centre and relatively close to paseo montejo. From merida you can take buses (or guided tours) to progreso, chichen itza and - if you are adventurous - uxmal. Thank you! I really enjoyed my stay.
