We were met with exceptional friendliness, which made us feel immediately at home. We were able to take drinks from the bar whenever we wished, there were tea and cakes provided every afternoon at no extra cost, and there was a comfortable library sitting room and a delightful garden in which to sit. Our room was very comfortable with a huge bed and very hot water for a bath or shower. . The breakfast was delicious, freshly baked bread and croissants, smoked salmon cheese and ham, granola, fruit salad and yogurt aplenty.

Nothing could be improved; our stay was perfect.

The rooms were wonderfully appointed. The staff was friendly and efficient. The location of the hotel was perfect for our needs-the museum district was less chaotic and was much cleaner than closer to the train station. The European breakfast was wonderful and the evening snacks were equally delightful.

There wasn’t really anything we didn’t like. This is a dog friendly place, and there was some barking one day. It wasn’t much and didn’t disrupt my sleep. The stairs are very steep, but that wasn’t a problem for us-it’s just something to consider if you prefer the stairs to the elevator. The tub/shower was quite deep-it wasn’t a problem for us, but something to consider. It could be a challenge for someone less steady.

The neighborhood is awesome and in any direction you can hit whatever you desire….parks, restaurants, high end stores, local shops or museums. I loved the staff who were so welcoming and engaging and just talking with other guests. We came from all over but really felt like a community of people staying at a really amazing home. This is not your traditional hotel. They have anything and everything to meet your needs and provide really personalized attention. The decor, the premium liquor, included breakfast and evening wine down make it next level. Definitely the only place I’ll stay in AMS.

Cannot say enough great things about Jan Luyken! From the beauty of the interior, the location, the staff and amenities this is the perfect hotel for a stay in Amsterdam. First, this hotel is beautiful! There is character in every corner, if you love colorful maximalist luxury this hotel is for you. The staff here is extremely friendly they were very accommodating to all of our needs. They offer a very delicious continental breakfast with lots of fresh options as well as a wine and cheese area in the afternoon. There was a scheduling issue without reservation and after our first night they upgraded us to a corner room with a view and a porch which was an absolute dream! If you have a chance to stay in their corner room with a view, I highly recommend it! Lastly this hotel is in a great location it is in walking distance to many great neighborhoods, parks, restaurants and shopping.

All of the delightful perks: free drinks, snacks, umbrellas, bikes (when available), and a fabulous breakfast. Very good location close to some delicious restaurants and the best museums. The area felt very safe, and the staff was super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Although the room wasn’t very big, it was functional, relatively new, very clean, and nicely decorated. Internet was very good. We liked pretty much everything about our stay at JL and we would definitely go back next time we’re in Amsterdam. Love you JL!

Not much could have been better except for maybe setting up a system so that some selfish guests who use the free bikes don’t get to keep the keys during their entire stay thus not allowing other guests to use the bikes at all : ( Also, a recycling bin in the room would be appreciated.

We only had a couple of nights and wanted to visit three museums. Hotel is a few minutes walk from all of them. The courtyard is lovely and there are complimentary drinks and snacks at all times of day. The rooms were lovely and clean and the beds extremely comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is limited but good quality.

I would have rated the hotel a 10 based on my double room but my mum stayed in a snug room because that was the only one available with a walk-in shower and she has mobility issues. Her room was at ground level on the street with a view of a bin and no privacy whatsoever. People were waving at her from the street as they passed by! The room next to it had some privacy frosting along the bottom and I think they should do the same in this one. Yes, you can close the curtains but that makes an already tiny room feel incredibly oppressive. The description on booking.com shows the double room as having a walk-in shower so that should be amended. Finally there are some stairs off the breakfast room that could do with a bannister or something - my Mum nearly fell down them.

Beautiful townhouse building in the quieter Museum quarter. The unique experience allowed us to feel at home with drinks including alcoholic and snacks available throughout the day. The breakfast was amazing and property well appointed. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We joked that it was like having a fairy come clean up after you when you finished a drink or plate downstairs. You would lay it on the counter or in their sink as you would at home but a nice “fairy” would clean it up for you. We had THE BEST time and did not want to leave!

Everything was fantastic!

Didn't expect early check in availability, so was pleasantly surprised when my room was ready at noontime. The location couldn't have been better for my purposes, ie, an evening pass for the Vermeer exhibit, needing to walk to the hotel after 10 pm. Breakfast was also great, with yummy warm croissants and fresh cheese, along with other standards like yoghurt, granola, and fresh fruit. Nothing prepared, though, such only hard-boiled eggs. Was also surprised at free drinks (both nonalcoholic and alcoholic) by the reception area. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

Cost was similar to a recent luxury stay in Bangkok, so Amsterdam is expensive.

Great shower. Comfortable bed and a/c. Complimentary drinks in the evening. Excellent yogurt, muesli, fruit, granola and bread at breakfast. Lovely desk help. Close to all museums and transportation. The 397 airport bus picks up just a block away.

The light switch by the door controlled lights by the door and in the room. They should be separate switches. I needed light to get into my suitcase by the door and had to bother my husband with full light.

I loved everything, the friendly staff . Homemade cakes during the the day the open bar , and to be able to enjoy it in beautiful lounge area or room . I had a stunning room with beautiful view . The bikes that are included with your stay beautiful continental breakfast.

I would have like , some warm options at breakfast, like bacon or cold cuts meats . Room was beautifully lit but a stronger reading bed light and a rubbish bin in the actual bedroom would be a welcome addition.
