Good location on the lakefront a short walk from the centre of Te Anau, visitor centre etc. Helpful staff. The seating area in Reception with books was a nice touch. Clean and comfortable rooms (bed very comfy). Good hospitality tray and toiletries. Appreciated the fridge. We had dinner and breakfast at the attached restaurant overlooking the lake, and were very impressed with both the food and the staff.

The over-bath shower was good, but care was needed to get in and out, as bathroom space was confined. We booked two rooms for our party and would have appreciated them being nearer to each other.

The room was clean, space was good enough. The hidden drawer for the tea/coffee and the fridge gives the illusion of a minimalist design (but guests who don’t check might think that there is none provided). Breakfast option was tasty enough but would appreciate if there were more options.

The price point doesn’t feel as worth it as compared to other properties in Te Anau - you might be able to stay at a bigger place for two nights for the price of one night in Kingsgate. It’s lakeside but it’s a bit of a walk to the town centre - not good if you don’t own a car and have to haul a luggage with you.

Staff very pleasant and accommodatiing. we ate twice in restaurant for evening meal the staff in there very friendly and looked after us well 😃 Would also give Deepak a mention as we lost the key to a suitcase and he managed to break the lock and saved the day ..Thank you very much Deepak😃 Loved the area and Would have liked to stay another night but unfortunately they were fully booked...would recommend Kingsgate although it does need updating slightly .. I guess the price reflects the rooms

Shower curtain aaah.😖 ..also tv obscuring the big mirror

We were only briefly staying and passing through to go to the Milford Sound, so it was worth the money spent for what we needed. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, especially when I left my ring behind and called them up - I asked them if they could post it to my home back in Australia, which they obliged. Great service! Breakfast buffet was also amazing! The beds were extremely comfortable!!

There was no hand soap to wash your hands in our bathroom, but they left 2 small bars of facial soap, which we used - the facial soap did have a weird "elderly person" smell, though.

We came during off season, so mostly had the place to ourselves! The hotel restaurant still opened for us, and we were treated with the best customer service by the staff! The food was amazing, the fireplace was warm, and the staff were very attentive and personable. Super close location to the lake (with beautiful views), and really comfy beds!

It isn't entirely modern (no elevator) but it added to the character of the place, and meant for a great price, making it a far better stay than the other hotels around in the same price range (which didn't look as modern as Kingsgate even still).

Pleasantly surprised by just how large this room was! Room was heated for our arrival and lovely and warm on entry. Great location with pleasant morning walks alongside the lakefront to go get a coffee every morning.

An ageing hotel that is a little worn and worse for wear particularly in the communal areas, stairwells and corridors. Little sound proofing, easy to hear footsteps of everyone else walking about late at night and early in the morning. Limited rooms with views of lake, views from other rooms of carparks.

Next to the lake, and great location for a morning run. Perfect place to stay for a few nights for day-trips to the Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound.

Our only problem at the hotel was that our room was directly behind the reception. We kept being woken in the early hours by a door closing and initially thought it was other guests, but on departure realized it was from the reception area. Unfortunately this resulted in poor sleep for us.

Room was a great size, very comfortable and clean, with a wonderful heater which came in handy for drying our wet gear! We also were able to get into our room earlier which was a real plus. The hotel was in an excellent location, opposite the lake, and walking distance to restaurants etc.
