The room looked exactly like the pictures. The bio said a hairdryer was included - we couldn’t find one in the room but it may have been available on request. The room and bathroom appeared modern on the inside so looks like it had recently been renovated. Room was clean and comfortable, was a little cold and the heating intermittent but otherwise fine. Kitchen facilities were good, but quite crowded given the size of the hostel. There isn’t much parking at the hostel site but plenty on the street. Look out for the roaming cats who don’t appear to be afraid of the cars! Great location on the lake and within walking distance to the town.
The doors to the rooms could do with upgrading

It was a very good two-night stay at Lakefront backpackers. I had a night in my own double room with small kitchen area that was shared with one other room. I also stayed one night in a garden cabin and use of the bigger, shared kitchen. There was use of shared bathroom facilities for each room I was in which were clean and usually available when needed. The rooms were cosy and it was a very clean hostel. Also close to the lake, and the Kepler Track car park was a short drive away. Great for stopping over to and from visiting Milford Sounds which is a 2 hour drive away from Te Anau and the reason I stayed - and it felt a good decision to stop over here! Had a good stay all round.

Loved our stay at Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers. Was in a very convenient location and had ample parking within the accommodation or on the street in front and behind. Stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was very spacious, and had handy floating shelves above to store smaller items and powerpoints. Cute communal areas, and the kitchen had everything you'd need in it. Wifi works very well!
No lockers in each room, so it is necessary to lock up personal/valuable items. The beds aren't in bunks/cubbies nor do they have big dividers or curtains, so there isn't as much privacy as other accommodation options. The bathroom shower is separated from the rest of the bathroom by a thin shower curtain and it was occasionally slow to drain, so you can have a bit of flooding in the whole bathroom.

I stayed there for 2 nights. Did the Milford Sound cruise. The first night I shared the dorm with a guy, who was fairly silent and apparently part of a huge group stacked up somewhere else in the hostel. He didn't speak to me at all or maybe he couldn't speak English Idk. I did tried to speak to him but he didn't really reply. It felt kinda weird and uncomfortable. So I didn't sleep much that first night. The next night I shared the room with two other women and we went up to reception to ask of there was a fourth person coming and if it was a guy. Which it then turned it to be. They then changed it so he got booked to another room with another guy. So we'd have the room to ourselves. Very nice gesture of the receptionist although it was mixed dorms. One of them snored terribly though, the one next to my bed, and so I didn't sleep well that night either. So all in all the Hostel did a lot to try and ensure comfortability but you never know who you're gonna share the room with. But it was one of the better hostels I've ever stayed in. Also compared to other places in Europe.
That it was a mixed dorm

Great location on the water front. Really helpful staff who accommodated a dorm change for me and the person I was travelling with on arrival. Two lovely kitchens designed to create a social environment. Nice living areas with plenty of chill space and plenty of gaming options. Nice balcony to sit on looking out onto the water front. Our 4 bed dorm was really spacious. Definitely the hostel to stay at in Te Anau.
Minor point but quite a few of the hobs in the kitchen didn’t seem to work so the kitchen did feel quite busy at times. We used the other kitchen on one evening to create more room

Lake front location gave a great view of lake from the shared living room. Very clean overall. Staffs are very friendly and helpful.
The bunk bed was very shaky and since it didn’t have any bedside shelf or lamp, I couldn’t read anything once a person in the room decided to turn off light at 8pm without asking :(. Also, my bed was the top part of a bunk bed and thing’s easily fell through the gap between my mattress and the frame or between the frame and wall. I basically couldn’t have anything on the bed if I had to take the top bed. This problem can be easily fixed if the owner just added a little wooden board shelf for each bed.

We had a lovely stay. As a backpacker / hostel style place we were really pleasantly surprised by how lovely our private double room was - it felt like an upscale hotel room! We had a fantastic view of the lake whilst the room itself was incredibly spacious. It's also a great location, right in the centre and within easy walking distance of all the town's amenities.
The only minor thing was that our double room with lakefront view was located just above the shared kitchen facilities, so it could be a little noisy at times. It's a tiny blip though - we didn't find it to be disruptive enough to affect our enjoyment of our stay.

The location right in front of the lake. Walk to the bus station is about 5mins. The lady at reception was so nice and welcoming. My sheets were dirty when I arrived and I asked her to change it and she was really sorry and didn't hesitate a minute to change them. Kitchen was very clean and well equipped, showers tidy. Oh and the mattress in the bunk bed was so comfy..I was pretty tired from working and was so happy about the mattress!!
No plugs next to the bed, some of them in the room didn't work. Shower was a bit small

Really good location. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in a 4 person Yurt and were provided with plenty of duvets when it got cold. The beds were really comfy. Loved the tv room, allowed you to socialise. The outdoor area with the bbq and stoves is great. Kitchen is nice and big and kept relatively clean. Stayed here for a week and made loads of friends.
Could do with more bathrooms and laundry machines. In the 4 bed Yurt there is no electricity which was fine as we would charge stuff in the main building in the morning when getting ready. We did over hear one staff member shouting quite aggressively at other staff members, which of course isn't nice or professional.

Loved the bell tents. Very nicely fitted out, with super comfy beds and blankets and heater to make sure cosy in the evening. Outside space was really lovely for relaxing with nice separate toilet, shower and kitchenette black for tents and cabins. Also had access to quality bbq and full kitchen facilities used by whole site. Nice location close to lake.
Would love there to have been a compost for food scraps. Appreciated that other recycling facilities were provided.
