Room was a bit of a surprise as this was actually more of a sportsman’s lodge, where you are out fishing a lot (I’ve done this on the ocean in Canada). The room was clean but very basic with bed and bathroom. There is a large common kitchen and common lounge with pool table and tv for rugby games (I watched a bit of women’s rugby and ran into the same English rugby players at the airport in Auckland a couple days later). I was almost the only person there and the weather was cool (room had a heater) so it set the tone. Bit of an experience - played 4 games of billiards by myself. Owners friendly and helpful.

It was rustic. Rooms walls could have been brighter to compensate for lack of windows. No tv but wifi was ok.

Having stayed here several times, it just seemed natural to book again. Always clean, tidy and comfortable. We made good use of the kitchen and lounge. Weather was very grotty but as we were white water rafting, that didn't matter.

Bathroom amenities are quite small, however we just got on with it. Not much can be done about that

We stopped for a night on our long drive south to move house, so we really appreciated how helpful the owners/staff were to (a) stay open a little late since we were running late to check in, and then (b) help direct us to park our furniture truck overnight on the side of the driveway. They went out of their way to assist us and it was much appreciated.

The lqdy we spoke to at the reception was so lovely, she was incredibly accommodating when I mentioned we were potentially arriving late. The transition of getting in, parking, packing away our food and checking out was so easy. We left our keys in the door and off we were! Great stay, extremely clean room, and a bonus that we got $10 off for paying in advance and we appreciated the supply of soap and shampoo.

We could hear when the people next to us used the bathroom so walls were a bit thin to cancel our noise, and the bed was a bit too soft for us. But no major issues.

Very personable & welcoming host. Each unit is clean & cosy and has its own small ensuite. Shared lounge and well-equipped & well-organised kitchen, with each unit having its own marked cupboard with crockery, utensils. Nestled in bush setting; Insect screens at all windows. Handy to good walks and fishing.

Nowhere to hang anything. No plugs to recharge phones.

Small but clean. Shared kitchen and utensils were room allocated. Shared lounge area with pool table. Good location to walks i.e. rover walk is just behind the accomodation. Close to the lake and also Tongariro.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating for our late arrival. Wonderful stay, will come again. Could not fault the cottage. Loved the shared facilities (pool table, fireplace, camp kitchen)

We were surprised to see no milk in the fridge but since we arrived after office hours, sorted ourselves with nearby shops. Could have more photos available online but the premises was as described and expected.

A warm and cozy room in winter. Easy check in and check out process. Warm kitchen and lounge area. The mini compo radio in the lounge brings back the 80/90s memories.

Nothing major. Just a wee suggestion, it would be good if the pool cue in the lounge had a perfect tip for a good pool game.

Very nice room with a private bathroom. Good kitchen amenities. Very nice patio for a cup of tea after the Tongariro crossing hike. Good location. Staff was very nice. Overall, excellent family run hostel, definitely recommend!

Stayed in the cabin. Self contained. Were given the privacy to just come and go when we wanted. Good heater in the room and electric blankets. Will probably stay again another time.

Han basin in the bathroom was the smallest we've seen, but only stayed the night passing through and one night again on our way back. Looked like it hadn't been vacuumed between visit one and visit two.
